You might have read already but we have a long article of Q&A by Sponichi and this is only a part of it. Yuzuru was asked how he was going to see the balance between winning and what he wants to do in figure skating, and said he would be focusing on what he wanted to do now. After performing SEIMEI, he felt this direction was not wrong, he preferred this state that he could feel he wanted to skate (after GPF and JN, he lost his motivation for figure skating, but skating old and EX programs made him feel again that it was fun to skate). He will be happy if it was evaluated well, but thinks it can't be helped if it wasn't because the rules are not something he can change. If the judges and the audience watch and think he is inferior, that would be his capability. He wants to perform SEIMEI like he performs Chopin of 4CC, for not giving them the impression that he is inferior.

Also the main reason for not having 4Lo at 4CC was that he didn't want to be influenced by ice condition.

A little more from Q&A

His goal is clear, it is to make free program with 4A in which he is able to perform like he does in Chopin. ("perform like he does in Chopin" means he can become one with the music and execute every element at good quality everywhere, seamlessly. https://www.sponichi.co.jp/sports/news/2020/02/09/kiji/20200209s00079000386000c.html) He wants to do 4A not because it has high difficulty but it is his pride after all. To Otonal and Origin, he wants to say "Thank you". Two skaters are still superior to him and he is regretful that he couldn't control two programs (especially Origin). But he learned a lot from doing them, and thanks to that, he has the current Chopin and SEIMEI. He is very scared of having the same programs since he will be compared to the best of himself, but he always tries to go higher.

He really had good foresight with leaving the quad loop out then, given the ice condition at 4CC did turn out really bad. Or perhaps someone at 4CC went and scouted first?

Olympic Champion Hanyu surpasses himself

Seoul. Double Olympic Champion Yuzuru Hanyu surpasses himself once again. After a world record breaking score of 111,82 in the short program the 25 year old from Japan also won the long program at the Four Continent Cup Seoul and for the first time the competition with a total score of 199,42 points. Second was the US-American Jason Brown in front of the japanese Yuma Kagiyama.

Belated congratulations to Yuzu on his slam! Hope and Legacy was really something else, one to endlessly rewatch!

I may be in the minority here, but I also thoroughly approve of The Green, having not 4 short weeks ago chosen to brighten my handlebars (and thus the dark winter mornings) with the very same green.

Obviously, I can't help thinking that this is a good omen for worlds 😜.

I rewatched today Seimei and for me it was amazing despite of the mistakes.
He added a lot of new nice touches to the choreo and he was focused all the program. I think with 6 weeks ahead for worlds it'll be an easier program for him ( hope without the 4a for now...)
The new costume, well, not a big fan tbh. He looks like Buzz lightyear but he looks good on anything, so lucky him😅

I was thinking about what Yuzuru said about ballet in the press conference. Many ballets are reworked and performed again & again. Ballet companies build a repertoire. I think Yuzuru is building a skate repertoire. A thread...

Works of art that can be enhanced and presented many times over the years. It is obvious from his performances at 4CC that the audience was thrilled to see these pieces again. Just because it hasn’t been done in ice skating ,doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be done.

Yuzuru is unique and has always stood out in his skills and artistic interpretation. Thus I believe he is correct in comparing his choreography to ballet or even other forms of art. True art stands the test of time and can be appreciated again and again.

For example, like Van Gogh’s Starry Night, Yuzuru’s Notte Stellata is a work of art. In ballet I teach repertoire as learning tools like Little Swans from Swan Lake. Maybe someday skaters will be learning the “Chopin variation “ to try to learn about real artistry on ice.

I am type of a fan who wants to see new programs from Yuzuru as many as possible, but I think this perspective is very very interesting

Wow, you're so observant. Is the back different too? The angle of the patterns looks different but I cant be sure.

I didn't notice until I came across this tweet which exactly pointed out the change in the comments. Usually I depend on observation of other fans in regard to the costumes. At this point, I feel like anything is possible for Satomi ;)

Warning: long post coming up but I just wanted to put this down somewhere.

This past week was a long one, but after it ended, it feels like everything went by in a flash. I didn’t know how to quite put into words the feelings and impressions I had on and surrounding Yuzuru at 4CC.
Starting from the discovery of his program change, the anxious yet exciting wait for his first practice, forgetting to breathe and minds going blank watching the SP, the elation when it dawned on me what just happened in front of my eyes, walking out the stadium through a stream of equally elated fans (a stark contrast to Saitama), the anticipation and some more anxiety leading up to the Free (particularly on the 30s cut and 4Lz), watching SEIMEI which was the second program of Yuzuru that I watched on yt - the very program that sealed the deal for me becoming his fan, worrying that he would again be hard on himself, feeling relieved when I see that his expression is not grim and that he seemed genuinely happy at the victory ceremony and the gala, being in awe and gasping at the breathtaking Hope & Legacy, and ending with feeling grateful to have witnessed this whole ‘journey’ at 4CC. Finally, reading the translations of his post 4CC interviews really put my mind at ease. It really does seem to me that the clouds have cleared up in his head/heart. I am very happy for him and am looking forward to witness this journey of his and where he will take us.

I will now go back to being sad the whole thing is over. Sorry for the long post. :)

I think many of us felt this way when we watched 4CC. Thanks for putting it into words and sharing this!
