I agree. He 's not vain but he knows that, if he appeared and tickets were on sale, people would risk illness to see him. And as I said on the other thread, he's been urging people to be safe and careful, he's decided that whatever the ISU and JSF decide, he will practice what he preaches.

I think we will see him at a competition or two later in the season, as he only a few days ago mentioned the 4A he wants. But the risk, for someone like Yuzu, is just not worth it.

I'm impressed that he didn't wait for the ISU or JSF but announced it now, so that they can't try and sell tickets in his name.

All we know is that he did pick out pieces he thought were him late last year but didn't have time to work them up before 4CC - which he now admits he was not comfortable going to but felt obligated (and yes, got his super slam with the gold). I think his sense of duty made him preempt the ISU's decision, both by not leaving it till they allocated a place and forewarning fans that buying up tickets on the offchance he would be at this or that GP (as they did every year) is a bad idea.

As his fan for many years, I'm so happy that he's more careful with his health nowadays. I used grit my teeth everytime he skate and risk his own well-being because of his competitive nature like what happened in Worlds 2012, COC 2014 and many, many more.

Yes, he is more mature and considers more about his health mow. However, I think this time, the impact of Coronavirus is much more serious than just competing injured, as it affects all the people around him and the countries he travels to or stays in.

I am so proud of him for making this decision.

Just several days ago he wanted us to take action to reduce the virus spread and today he took action to make the words came true.

It wouldn't have been easy - especially not as he had to be the first to speak up - but his concern for others as well as himself is more than proven throughout his life, and is clearly a part of the decision. Yuzu may be older and wiser, but he has shown time and time again that if it's just a risk to him, he's far more likely to take it.

What happened at 4CC clearly made a bad impression on him - no fault of the Koreans, but he must have been so aware every minute of the danger to everyone. And the long-term effects on even young and healthy people are just starting to be taken seriously. I worry that in 5-10 years, a lot of people who thought it was minor are going to find out they had permanent damage and didn't know it.
