Wow. That is a very bright dress for what is a dismal day back home in NI!

Ah, "La La Land". That explains everything.

Although Claudia didn't get a lot of air between her blades and the ice when doing the jumps, they were executed well.

All in all, it was a very good skate. I didn't spot any mistakes at all.

I have a feeling that Kevin is reaching the age where he needs reading glasses. He had to go over to the screen today again to see what it said.

She goes into the lead (obviously!) with a score of 25.06.

Ah. Just been reading up on Claudia. She is normally a Solo Dancer.

That probably explains the lack of height in the jumps. She's not as experienced with jumping as she is with the other stuff.

I already thought she looked promising, but finding this out reinforces that feeling. Because with more experience, the height will come. And that will make the skating look even better than it does already.

I'm going to be keeping an eye out for this girl in future.

Oh. If that is her Dad that has left the comment on the chatbox, and if he is who I think he is, he is from my part of the world! Like, 10 miles away!

We now have a double bill of boys. And what's more, both competitions are for Basic Novices. There were supposed to be two boys in each competition, but skater #1 in the competition that is actually using the "Basic Novice" moniker has withdrawn.

Oh, and both skaters in the National 4 competition are called "William S."

Back to the girls, and it is the start of our Advanced Novice FS triple-bill. Same order of competitions as we had for the SP's yesterday. So, we are starting with a group of 8 girls. But, they are not the same 8 girls as were entered to yesterday'sd short. Well, 7 of them are. The girl from the Auchenharvie club in Scotland has been replaced by a girl from the Dundonald club in Northern Ireland.

Given that the American girl withdrew from the Short, it will be interesting to see if she is here for the Free. I doubt it somehow.

Oh, I love this song! "It's All Coming Back To Me Now" by Céline Dion. (Of course I do! It was supposed to be a Meat Loaf song, after all!)

The opening combination was looking good, but she got her legs a bit tied up on landing the second part.

Her second jump looked good.

She fell on her third jump. And you kinda knew something was going to happen, because setting it up didn't look right.

I think she lost a bit of confidence beause of the fall. Her subsequent jumps were much smaller.

She looks disappointed doing her bows.

Oh no. I think she's crying off camera. No, she's just breathing heavily, getting her breath back.

Kevin definitely is having problems seeing what is on the screen. He went over to it a couple of times.

Into 5th position with a score of 35.05.

Not much reaction from her. Too busy talking away with Kevin.

We complete our Advanced Novice triple-bill on a new stream by returning to the girls. There were supposed to be 20 of them (a group of 6 girls; followed by two groups of 7 girls), but there have been a lot of withdrawals. At the moment, it looks like it will be 16 of them, arranged into a group of 4 girls; followed by two group of 6 girls.

Oooh. Mystical music.

Nice set of spins to start us off.

And the first jump she did was beautiful.

Oh, she really messed up the sit spin. That'll be called as a fall.

But the jump she did next made up for it. The next jump, though, had an iffy landing.

Singled the second part of the combination.

Wobble on a spin. And on landing the final jump.

A lot of little mistakes. But, when everything is polished up, it will be good.

Ah, Kevin is with her too! he must be looking after all the Irish skaters in this part of the event, not just the Northern ones.

Into 1st (obviously) with a score of 31.41.

She was annoyed with herself when the scores were announced. But, it's early in the season. I'm sure things will improve as the season goes on.

That's a good start. Problems with the music.

In fact, I think that was her Short Programme music that they started playing!

Then after she was called again, she was stood there for ages before it started playing. And then it did, and she started skating and after a bit of armography, she went over to the Judges again.

Third time lucky?

Beautiful jump to start off with. And the next one was too!

And the combination jump too! And the spin after the combo.

In fact, everything was done beautifully. She wasn't rattled by the drama with the false starts.

Just a pity that the last spin was after the music finished. But, it's hardly surprising given what happened at the start.

Much better than the Short yesterday.

She goes into 1st (obviously) with a score of 56.32.

And judging by her reaction, she has never scored anything near that high before! She and Margaret are both delighted!

Just checked, her previous best score for the FS was 42.49. So, she has smashed it to pieces!



Put it like this - I don't think she will be finishing last today like she did yesterday!

Mmmmm. I must have got the story a bit mixed up then.

I thought they had worked on it together, and then after it was finished Meat Loaf was ready to record it but Steinway said no as he now saw the finished article as "a woman's song".

I never would have guessed that it went as far as legal action. I thought they had a pretty good relationship.

Well, Meat Loaf did get recording it eventually as a duet:

(I have the album it was on, "Bat Out Of Hell III", so that's how I knew).

But, I would have loved him to do it on his own at the time it was written. It would have been epic!
