Very pretty makeup for Duhamel, but that hair is FRUMP CITY (Yes-I am that shallow!).

Not my cuppa, but it was a terrific performance.

Eurosport commentators said something as well.

Oy! The problem is that many technical specialists also work as coaches or they hold high positions in their federation. Seems totally preventing a conflict of interest is a futile task.

LOL, would not surprise me if the person who tweeted was repeating what s/he heard on Eurosport.

But as Mrs. P says, it is an example of how "incestuous" ;) the sport is. I would guess that many other sports have the same issue to some degree or other.

Impossible to avoid, I would agree. But extra unfortunate in a judged sport.

Some nice performances! It is unreal how good S/H's elements are, and they have so little height difference.

Great skate by D/R. They have a good lead, well, that's not so good for me, I hoped the competiton would be more exiting... Good luck to you, but I hope Sui and Han will fight for win!

James/Cipres didn't get credit for the sbs spins, hence the low score

ETA: Looking at their video, it looked like he did a rotation on both feet in stead of an actual foot change.

James/Cipres started off really well! They just need to clean up the sbs spins and I can see them rising quickly.

Tarasova/Morozov's triple twist was absolutely gorgeous. And Meagan's air position during that final lift

She needs a lesson in stlying from Madison Chock.

:rolleye: pop over to Paris & you'll see quite a few girls on the streets this year have these "frumpy" jagged-tipped styles. Meagan looks great. Amazing performance, excellent musical choice for them.

Meagan's hair reminds me of Nathalie Pechalat's from last season. I love that choppy bob look and I think Meagan really pulled it off.

I wish I could just pop over to Paris. Want to buy me a plane ticket? ;)

FWIW, plenty of people in Paris are also sporting Maddie's straight bob style as well. :) (Judging from what I see on the French street style blogs)

Anyway, YMMV regarding these things -- it certainly doesn't take away from a solid performance.

S/H are just so expressive, which is rare among Asian skaters.

Good to see Vartmann and Van Cleave finally get to skate a Grand Prix event, after being forced to withdraw in earlier opportunities. He used to skate in juniors with Ameena Sheikh (not the famous Pakistani actress :) ) in juniors in Detroit. Not s great score, but an OK start to their season.

Exciting that Maddie and Max are in the final group!

Super-exciting for Maddie and Max. :yay:

Well you're right, a lot of situations could be argued as being a conflict of interest. But they aren't just familiar with each other professionally, Joshua skated with Peter's daughter, so that could be seen as more of an issue. It doesn't really matter to me though.

Yes, I'm sure that Mrs. P was making an indirect reference to the former Cain/Reagan partnership as one of the strands of the tangled web.

Who are "Cong/Tong"? :bang:  Surely they have not coined such a nickname for themselves?

The link to the Skate Canada videos thread is in the OP of this thread.

And Doris  has been adding video links very quickly to the videos thread.
