2014 Skate Canada Mens FS 11/01

Kozuka just might have lost his ticket to worlds: Hanyu wont be off the team. Machida has good programs and consistency. Mura is performing like this at the beginning of the season. Poor Kozuka😪

Yikes... rough day at the office for Javier. :slink: I'm not loving the program either - It's all just too over-the-top cutesy for me (Philippe Candeloro light). I much prefer his style in the short program. His long programs have yet to live up to his great Chaplin routine.

100% agree with this. His SP is much, much better for him and really showcases his athleticsm and sex appeal. This LP not doing him any favors I think.

choreography felt rushed, too busy, frenetic.
didn't feel it. Javi didn't feel it either.

ITA, and I thought before he was finished skating that statistically Javi would come behind Mura with that effort. Don't understand why Javi would think he could win with that. He needs to tone down the shtickiness and try to find a way to own his elegant promise as a skater. Orser needs to get Javi to ballet class quick! Ballet class, Javi!!!

Well, sorry to see Javi be a bit off - I can imagine this program being a good one, but with the jump mistakes it just looked a bit hurried, off-timing, scattered....but, it is super early in the season.

Mura's skate was wonderful, and then that reaction to his scores - awww, so very moving and sweet and endearing. Good for him!

I am happy for Mura but I am soooo sad for Javi. He needs to win the next GP. Please get yourself together Javi, GPF will be in your home!!! :bang:

Hands down (person who don't like Jason Brown), Mr. Jason Brown is a better overall skater stylistically, musically and artistically than anyone at this comp outside of Adam Rippon. But Jason is more consistent than Adam on jumps. If Jason ever masters a quad, look out haters.

This wasn't to me, but just because some people don't 'get' him, that doesn't make them haters. I can appreciate his skating and style and I'm glad there is a big male skater who the US public actually supports because it's good for the sport, but I personally don't prefer his skating. Each person's preferences re: skaters is a matter of choice and subjectivity, not fact.

Non-sequitur:

How does qualification to the GPF work? How well do skaters have to place to qualify? And does Javier need to win his next event to qualify?

Wow, the Japanese men are really leading the way, just as the Russian women are  I feel bad for Fernandez through :( wish he could have had a better program. Thanks for the updates as I am not able to watch it live!

Even that Mura destroyed my prediction, I feel mega happy for him. He was simply fantastic ! :agree:

I agree with the over emphasis on the jumps. Mura was no more the Phantom than the man on the moon. I admire his tenacity to return after an injury and his jumps are great. But why not turn off the music and let him skate in circles? Javi still seems like he's in the rookie mode with Figaro. Too much concentration on what's next and not enough into the character. Good for Max. Although rough around the edges, this program has potential.

But I think the problem is that the relative success of Javi's Chaplin routine went too much to Orser's head, and thus the focus on overly cutesy programs. IMHO, the fp that Javi had about 3 seasons ago with some Spanish flair was the better direction for Javi. It was a challenge for Javi and he did not live up to that earlier program's potential, but with his gorgeous quads, beautiful face and lovely lines (if he knew how to use them), Javi could improve his presentation and become a truly bravura skater. At this rate, I'm not seeing it happening anytime soon though.

It is interesting to guess how many gold medals will Japanese men get during GP, and how many will the Russian girls get....

No one has Dai's mesmerizing charm and effortless presence

So true. Mura was great today. His win is so well-deserved. I'm happy for Max, too. I missed most of Stephen's skate because I lost the feed. But fourth by a fraction of a point is a great comeback for him. Javier didn't skate well. He was lucky to hang onto the silver.

javi never seems to be an early season skater tho (except with the SC 2012)
it somewhat hurts his GPF chances but it allows him to hit it in worlds
