2014 Cup of China Mens Free Skate 11/08

Man, my heartrate tripled during the last hour. What a nightmare, for everybody involved. And isn't this the second time this happened to Han Yan, or am I mixing him up with someone else?
I cannot believe Yuzuru Hanyu skated... or Han Yan, for that matter.

Yeah I realised that soon after I posted. :P But then neither of those were pops, surely, so does this mean he PLANNED to have 3 repeats...

hehe sorry; I too am confused; but I think he meant to do 4T then changed to axel; frogot to change the flip I guess

He did get lower PCS, he got 90's at worlds

PCS isn't about the skater, it's about his performance. He got 100+ TES at worlds too. His performance was worse here. His PCS should be worse. It's not just an attachment on skaters. Wowity wow.

STOP. He usually gets >90 PCS for his skate. Here he only gets 84.02!!!

Here comes the brigade. I don't care about what he usually gets, today he was no where NEAR his previous standard (and with very good reason???)

The Japanese telecast of the whole saga was so distasteful, with a sensational caption saying, "Hannyu to skate after the BIG incident". The commentators were praising him for his effort and apparently this event is "a night that will be remembered by the skating fans forever." No wonder figure skating is not taken seriously. Hennyu should be reprimanded for going out there with that injury. Showing such a poor performance after he and his team had failed to make the right judgement is not a cause for celebration of heroism. What about the effect this had on the other skaters?

I just can't stand this melodrama... And Hannyu doesn't seem to mind it, either.

you obviously don't understand, and will never understand the japanese way of thinking.

Yeah, unfortunately that's why instead of this mishap looking stupid and a reckless decision for Hanyuu and his team, it's now going to be glorified because he stuck it out until the end. (Plus there's really the bonus of Hanyuu being the golden boy because he won all the awards last season).

Mixing him up with Nan Song I believe; who isn't here today but was suppossed to be; got replaced by another skater

The most ridiculous thing ever. I hope this set a precedent so ISU discuss the stupid rule that reward falls because it were rotated.
I mean, Kozuka knows perfectly rotate a quad and fall in his butt, may be he should to try 3 quads and to do podiums.

doesn't sound too bad of an idea actually.

You'll be happy to know that I'm a proud Japanese. I even misspelt "celebration".
Seriously 根性論のドラマ仕立てはマジで恥ずかしいのでやめてほしいです。

well then you are in the minority. japanese love this kind of sh*t. this is the real essence of 'ganbaru'. there's nothing 'hazukashii' about it at all.

Hanyu already has a massive fan base here but NHK trophy will surely get even crazier! All the fans cheering for Hanyu :)

He will need every fan if we wants an audience to help him to make a proper statement at NHK. He probably needs to win or a very slid silver at NHK if he wants to make the final.

Well Hanyu is 18y.o boy who thinks who is doing something heroic. I blame the coach and the referee of the event for not trying to explain the ridiculousness of the situation to the boy. I did not like Orser's behaviour in this situation. So irresponsible.

Good point about his age, and it was distasteful on my part to highlight him seemingly getting caught in the drama. Completely agree re: his team being irresponsible. Unbelievable.

Watching this competition I had the odd picture: What would happen if there was a competitor rotating quads like crazy but never landing them. How far would he get in this current system, if he had a bit of artistry?

It's not responsible. And it should -not- be respectable. You'll have people ruining their careers by worsening their injuries because of this kind of a thing.

You don't get extra points for bravery, stupidity, sheer recklessness...Judges were clearly swayed by Hanyu's efforts to go out there after the collision along with past performances. Not right. This reminded me of Oksana Bauill after she won the Olympics and judges, again, turned their head to two footed jumps and were swayed by a poor little girl from the Ukraine with lots of pink feathers.

LOL, the Kovtun team's perplexed faces and "what a nightmare" comment by Buyanova are telling. They looked like he finished last.
