2014 Rostelecom Cup Men's Free Skate 11/15

He finished 5th cause of being 7th in the SP. People mess up. But he made an admirable comeback placing 4th in the FS. I guess if you want to see the glass half-empty, that's your call. Also the fact that the winner of the event only beat him in TES by 3 points (and that's with Jason making a huge error in his triple lutz), doesn't exactly make a HUGE case of the oh so superior quad.

Oh well, YMMV.

Although I have not watched the men's free skate, I am going to side with Mrs. P here. Jason's score was pretty impressive and a clean short would have earned him a medal. He can hold his handsome head high knowing that it was good and can definitely get better.

Mrs P, I'm starting to dislike Jason because u r being so over the top fan that :bang: I mean, nothing wrong with that, but it seems that u only comment about him now and everything is about how he's still awesome and blah blah... I'm pointing this out because it's interesting for me to realize my own emotions..

Um, Okay?, I guess I'm glad you can let your feelings be known.

But I guess you missed the part where I said he deserved his placement from yesterday and that is was arguably his worst SP as a senior? Or that his strategy didn't work yesterday.

And for the record, I have no problem with the top 3 either. Or Misha finishing ahead of him!

And yes I'm a big fan....but I also try to be fair in my posts. I don't agree it was a medicore skate today ...how is that over the top??

If you want to dislike Jason cause of me...well, I guess that's your call.

Over the top fan? I think she's been very reasonable.

This event is so good but I'm not sure what to think of Kozuka. Is he still dealing with injuries or is he just nervous? At this point, I honestly don't think he can ever peak again

Happy for Jason making a recovery, Misha skating with so much heart, Javi being funny with opera music and skating well despite tendinitis, and impressive for Voronov and Brezina.

Really good men's competition.

Well thus end the streak of U.S. men's medalists in the GP. Oh well. Well let's see if Adam and Richard can pick it back up in the last two events.

GPF so far looks like: Javier, Machida, Mura, Hanyu (is he still going to be at NHK?), Kovtun and Voronov. Of course it depends on placement at future events, but I think this field is probably quite probable. But who knows. Would be kind of fun to see two Russians to mix it up with the Japanese.

Last I checked, he was still planning on it :ohwell:

I wish I knew how to post it, I would have added the post that said "YuzaNORI Hanyu":cry:

Okay I'm really bothered being called some sort of blind fan, so let me express my thoughts on other skaters.

I really like Javi's program. I though despite the mistakes, he did a good job with the character. Javi does really well with comedic characters (Chaplin is one of my fave programs)

Voronov's program is sort of strange, but his 4T combo was gorgeous and he really sold it. :)

And Brezina, no fourth place for you! Strongest I've seen the FS this season. Hope he can keep the moementum for hte rest of the season.

I am SO proud of Misha Ge. At the end of last season, he twitted that he had to change and wanted people to take him seriously. I think over the last two weeks, he certainly proved he CAN be taken seriously.

Really good men's competition.

So good analysis for FS :) :)

I'm so happy for Jason's result after SP, and Misha... he always improve his skating technicals.. I'm so happy for him.. :) All are good results.. :)

All true and I'm sorry about saying what I did. It's just that I like ur comments about skaters and i want to hear more of what u think about the others.. i guess i should've just said that. :bang:
Also, the over the top fandom point was about u answering to all kinds of posters who clearly hate J (or his quad-less) and I just think that's unnecessary. But yeah, I didn't mean that u are crazy fawn.. omg. I really need to learn how to express myself and negative feelings in a better way.... :rolleye::disapp:

ETA: Oh dear, poor Max. His pcs is really low. in the high 6s. But deservedly.. And his spins and steps got really low levels too. Bad day.

Great for Voronov to get back on track after popping. Respectable skate in front of home audience even though I don't like his style of skating.

Shameful showing of American men in this competition. Besides not delivering the quads, Aaron looked like he was marking through 2/3's of the program. US figure skating is spending 10's of thousands to send a petulant athlete to Russia? Aaron should know better. And, Bown needs to drop the fair-haired newby act and get down to business. He's far behind the rest of the world technically. He produced 2 mediocre programs. He's young but he shouldn't assume he has for ever. Those 3-3's are easy now but may not be for ever.

I don't understand your problem:

Fernandez 15. 04. 1991.
Voronov 03. 10. 1987.
Brezina 30. 03. 1990.
Ge ...............17. 05. 1991.
Brown ..........15. 12. 1994.

Jason is younger than 3.5 - 7.5 years for others. What a trouble you with this American guy? In 2018, Voronov will retire perhaps Brezina too. While Jason will have only 23 years... He has future! And he prodeced two programs NOT mediocre!

Good for Javi! Sorry, Sergei and Michal, but those performances should be kept for exhibitions! Great jumps but there's too much flailing and slippin' and slidin' through step sequences. I do not understand the artistry marks. Misha, too, a little over the top with the lyrics of the song on his shirt and lots of over emotion. But I guess some go for that. Good for Jason, overall a decent skate. Taka...I love your skating...such flow and pure artistry. I get it that he can't be marked well technically when he fails at so many jumps. But why aren't his artistry marks higher than the others? To me, there is such a distinction between with how Taka skates and the top 3.

See my comments above RE: other skaters. Might have other comments once i watch the programs again.

As for defending Jason -- it's because people like to state "memes" (Jason should throw the quad cause he did so poorly or he hasn't mastered the triples) and I think it's important that people have the facts -- be it statistics past scores, TES, whatever. I would do that for any skater who I think is being perceived incorrectly, even if I'm not their fan. So yeah I'm bothered by the accusation of being an "over-the-top" fan cause I DO have my favorites, but I really go out of my way to acknowledge good skating and to defend skaters based on facts, even if I don't like them.
