Yuzuru Hanyu: 2014-15 Season

Thanks annca! Laughed at the pic where it seems Nobunari, Javi, and Tomas were pouncing on Yuzuru. It does look he enjoys having bonding moments with his fellow skaters and performing before receptive audiences in those shows, but I hope he won't have to do so many next time around.
no prob! :) yes, with so many talented skaters in japan, i hope they can help shoulder the responsibility so he wont need to do so many but if he enjoys doing it then i hope and pray for him to stay healthy.

thanks for these! :)

If he is going then his health is ok by now propably. I am sure he will not be in top form at NHK but his health propably is ok and that's most important

The point is... Is his health really okay, will he be ready for NHK? His programs are very demanding, just 1 week of practice, can it be enough? :drama: I am afraid my fragile heart can't take this. Watching him through live stream at CoC was too much for me already.

I don't believe he will attempt his LP layout as it is at NHK, I think max it will be 2 quads in LP, and I hope it will be two quad toes, and better just one quad toe..... I am keeping my trust in Brian Orser forces in this situation... :drama:

I kept thinking that we will get an official statement from their camp this week, either yes or no for NHK. But I guess if it's still a go, they wouldn't really need to release a statement since it just means no change from the plan. So far that seems to be the case. But oh how I wish they would make a statement either way!

I think you're right. He's on the updated competitor list from yesterday so I think it's fairly clear he's competing. Is anyone really surprised at this knowing Yuzu? The bruises probably healed fairly quickly and the stitches would by now be out. The only injury I thought might hold him back is the sparained ankle but we really didn't find out how badly it was sprained. He's young and an elite athlete, so it would be hard to keep him down for long.

I for one am thrilled he's going to be there. Keeping my fingers crossed for a successful outing. :points:

Welcome! :) Unfortunately I don't have the information you're asking, but maybe some of the Japanese fans in this thread can help you out.

Cute! :)

Speaking of Brian Orser, I came across a revealing interview with him which I think may be of interest to us Yuzuru fans (http://www.manleywoman.com/episode-79-brian-orser/). The interview was held August this year.

Some excerpts:

A lot of my kids don’t realize how much I did as a skater or that I did quads until I talk about it. I worked on all of them — I worked on a quad lutz and a quad salchow, and I could do a quad toe loop. So having that video [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r2IaPXg6DaE] helps validate what I talk about [laughs]. It’s pretty cool to have that.

On how he coaches: ...You have to gauge and you have to read who needs what. We have a very honest policy with our skaters, and that’s communication. I can go out on the ice and see that Yuzuru [Hanyu] is doing fine, he just needs to know that I’m watching. Javi may be struggling with something, so I’ll go over and help him. Or David [Wilson] will swoop in and do some magic. Or Tracy will do some stuff, she’s really great with the psychology, and she can get them jazzed to get back onto the ice and dig in their heels and get into the trenches. Because that’s what you have to do. You have to go through those ugly awful programs at the start of the season. I say, you’re going to do those programs and they’re going to be nasty, but let’s just get into the trenches and we’ll just dig our way out. So we just have to read them, and there’s no better way of doing this.

On his activity at the boards while his skaters are competing: I think it’s because I skate with them every single day, so I know every step of the program. I can skate it with them except for the jumping parts. I know the speed they need to have, the rhythm and the tempo. I honestly feel that the energy gets sent out to them, and a long program is four and half minutes so it helps me pass the time to skate it with them. There are times when I think, Brian, you just need to calm down. But I can’t [laughs]....

On his relationship with [Yuna] Kim now after he was fired as her coach: It’s pretty well non-existent. The first time I saw her was at the World Championships in London, Ontario, and we kind of passed in the hall and did a little bit of a hug and that was it. And we saw each other a few times during the week and we just kind of smiled and nodded and that was that. It’s still one of the most heartbreaking things for me, and I still don’t understand what happened, or why it happened. I really don’t. I know that they got some wrong information, but I’m still guessing at what happened. I have a few ideas, but that’s just between me and me.

We really did have a great relationship and I thought I would be part of her life forever, and I would have this really positive impact on her life, and I’d be going to her wedding one day, and just be connected forever. The Olympics can do that. And then it was all just pulled away, and that’s exactly what happened. I don’t think other people wanted to see that happen, but it just got yanked away from me. And the same thing happened with Adam [Rippon], and it was hard for me to trust anybody in this sport. I couldn’t get emotionally involved. I love the skaters that I’m working with now, but I can’t let myself get emotionally involved. I can’t. Perhaps it was ruined by people like Yu-Na and Adam. But it is what it is. I learned a lot, just take it one season at a time. I don’t have contracts with my skaters, just a handshake, and maybe I need to revisit that idea, but I just don’t feel it’s necessary. Oh Brian! :(

(Except for the subject headings, emphasis mine)

Thank you. I've learned a lot about BOrser from this and I think he's just in denial but he IS emotionally involved with his skaters. Watching his faces at the boards and K&C, and all I could see is that he cares for them.

NHK is about a week away, I'll just pray that Yuzu took his time in deciding whether he'll join or not. If he joins, then I'll cheer him on and try to send good vibes while wishing for a safe skate.

Umm, anyone from North America planning to go to the World Championships in March? Am I the only one crazy enough to even consider it?

Selling tickets a year and half in advance is just insane!! I want to go to both if I can... But I'm failing to make up my mind for next year's Worlds right now. The 2nd round ticket sales just opened a couple of hours ago and they're selling like mad!!

Also, I went to check out the Boston worlds website since you mentioned it, but the tickets seem very expensive? Best seats for Shanghai is only CNY780 (equivalent to $128USD), compared with $1295 USD for best seats in Boston... The difference can already cover the return flights from Canada to China...

I am in Japan, so it is an easier trip, but I am thinking of going to Worlds in March. It's a nice facility, though a bit out of the way from the central part of the city.

The ticket sales already started! If you're planning to go, probably should check that out right away! The first round of tickets sold out in a few hours after they were released. The 2nd round started a couple hours ago... Seating sections from best to worst are in the order of S, A, B, C, D, and E. Both S and A for the men's competition are sold out...

Latest news said "There is still some pain left but he can walk normally."
it also mention that they haven't ask him about his decision to compete or not. Seems like he want to wait and see until the very last moment.
