It actually is pretty sad when I read this; it's the division between personal feelings and sport/business. But because of that statement, I feel that BOrser is the right coach for Yuzu since they would both focus on skating and not go into the personal boundaries. This reminds me that this division truly exists in society and an mere opinion can't change that.
(I mean this in a positive sense)
I too felt sad when I read that part of the interview for the following reasons: First is because Brian was obviously and admittedly speaking from painful experience (not for this thread to discuss the whys and wherefores), which one doesn't wish on anyone. Second, I think the "division" goes against his nature. This is a man who sponsored a competitor (Jozef Sabovcik) from communist Czechoslovakia so the latter could come over to Canada and train with him, who does his job of coaching at TCC with his personal friends (the two Wilsons, David and Tracy), who I've read was like a father figure to Javier when the latter came to Canada to train, buys Javier medicine when he is sick, and devises various strategems to get Javier on the rink and train and says he doesn't want Javier to have regrets about squandering his talent later on in life. Actually, his statement "I love the skaters that I’m working with now, but I can’t let myself get emotionally involved. I can’t" sounds as if he is trying to convince himself almost (and also ironic).
As we wait for the decision as to whether Yuzuru will skate in NHK later this month, I think Brian's input in the matter will be both professional and personal.
