Yulia Lipnitskaya

Purely speculation here but I'm fairly sure in the time since TEB she's been practicing the heck out of her Lutz in order to bring 3z-3t back to her programs. I doubt she is changing her technique but probably simply practicing it over and over and over again. It's possible that its affecting her 3f.

She did say the boots were so soft that she felt scared doing the big combos at first. Apparently she is moving past that little hang up.

I agree and this combo wasn't even bad :) Who has the courage to give an "e" on this combo? Who does see an inside edge here? I think most of last year calls, on the lutz, were made because there wasn't the distinction between wrong and flat edge. If Yulia feels more comfortable now with her boots, I think we'll always see the 3Lz+3T from now on :cheer:

Her planned combos for today: 3Lz-3T, 2A-3T-2T, 3F-2T. They're probably most expensive in total from all of the girls. I hope her Salchow will be ok too.

GO YULIA!!! :cheer:
If I'll get zero points in my predictions because of your win, I'll be 100% HAPPY no matter what

I don't like Yulia's attitude in her last interview: http://www.team-russia2014.ru/article/18800.html

She is not happy with marks, she was nervous yesterday like she was before CoC FP. She understand what was her problem with 3F, she'll work on it. I'm only glad that she give herself a right to make mistakes now. She was too hard on herself.

Google translate really bungled the whole thing up for me. For example:

. Now this was somewhere in the middle of the track, but I had time for setting their peals.

What the heck? I thought triple sheepskin was weird enough when that started showing up in all of my translations.

What is wrong with her attitude? Was it that she was just too hard on herself? I do like that she said it feels like Euros and that even the ice reminded her of that. Is that why maybe she reached down and felt the ice after she took her bow and was on her way to the K&C. That was new.

I tried to translate with google but what I got was a nonsense  But I also don't want to focus so much on an interview because it's always difficult to understand the real spirit. What we know is that Yulia is a perfectionist and yesterday she lost points on something not expected, so it's totally understandable if there's a bit of disappointment.

Highlights:
1) It looks to me she thinks she was underscored. She's skating better from event to event, got in better shape, but judges regard her with marks 'like a junior'. She obviously means PCS.
2) She was VERY nervous yesterday, nervous 'like never'. Close to scared, she was shaking inside.
3) They got back 3Lz-3T just in three days before the trip to Barcelona.
4) Physically she's not there yet, not even close. Sometimes she can't jump properly, yesterday her legs got tired in the middle of StSq. And she 'has to fight very hard in the second half of her FP' because of that.
5) She give herself room for mistakes now. It's good. She understands it's not possible to always skate good.
6) My main concern: her goal for tomorrow is not to skate clean, but to skate not very bad, fight for every element.
It looks to me that she thinks her skate will not be clean, at least she doesn't expect that. She's more confident now though, and it's important to her to skate with confidence, because if she's going to doubt herself she's gonna make mistakes. She will fight, but she's not sure if it's gonna be enough.

It's my impression. I hope it makes sense for you, guys.

Thank you Snow!

So she still feels not completely fit, I think the nerves depends only on it

reading the two or three preceeding pages about assessing elements can make the head spin. It reads like a seminar of Philadelphia lawyers. Skating is a floating world in ways I hadn't imagined. My naive impression is that between the scoring and the scorers, anything is possible. Have they considered going to a system more openly arbitrary, perhaps bribery and collusion?

Yulia has told us that the skates don't allow her to go into jumps at top speed, as she said she has done in the past with her old skates. Speed into jumps should tell us something about how she has adpated to her new skates.

Her body language after the performance said a lot. Note the burst of joy immediately after she finishes, and her good spirits and openness just before the score was announced. Then the score cast a pall over their celebration. Watch especially her eyes, all three were deflated over the outcome. It may be confusing if doing well (from her perspective) is not rewarded adequately. She said someting to that effect last year before Euros.

Accepting disappointments is a benefit of the CofC debacle. This forgiving attitude may not extend to blind judges.

I'd like to see some opinions of the number, or numbers that her performance deserved.

 my baby, believe in yourself.
Screw the judges.

Yes, I noticed that too. She was all laugh and smiles, and then the score was announced :slink: She even said something like 'Че так мало?' ('Why it's so low?') at K&C, if I've heard it correctly. Commenters were speaking at that time, so I'm not 100% sure.

Thanks for translating that comment. It sounds right for the context, it sums up her dilemma. All three seemed surprised. I am on a train so don't have access to much of the internet, but isn't this score pretty much the same as the China and TEB scores? Given the increased difficulty and execution, she had reason to be disappointed if the score didn't increase to reflect these improvements. It would be good if they could reward these people in some fair way without competing in the way they do now. As you can see, Snow, I favor life in Never-Never Land

One other aspect of this, an equally important one to me. According to that interview (thanks for letting us avoid the bewilderments of Google) she was more nervous than ever before. I think we can assume this a burden of increased difficulty. Then she executed really well, and the sky opened. She had overcome so much. Next the depressing score. That was really unfortunate psychologically, it was one giant step forward then one step back. For Yulia serenity is the central issue. She doesn't function at all well without it.

I think she also didn't know about edge call on her flip. She saw it later on replay. I wonder if skater and/or coaches see the current TES of the skaters like we do?

Thank you for translating. Yulia should just do what she can and not be too hard on herself.
