Yulia Lipnitskaya

I did not see her FS performance in whole because of bad streaming until this clip https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hkxilp__b9Y. Initially I thought she coped with the disappointment better this time, but at the end of the clip you can see it still hits her really hard. Seeing her cry is really breaking my heart.

Be strong Yulia. It is not the end of the world. Remember you said there are still plenty of time before 2018. The initial setback of this year might just be a blessing ... With great patience and warmth, I am waiting to see you amaze the world again.

I wonder if Yulia might switch back to her old boots? She seemed to do so well in them, while these seem to be causing quite a few problems…or is that because she’s still getting used to them? I know they stated that her old boots were heavier, but were they really that bad compared to these new ones?

I expected this kind of skate today. And still I'm sad. I hope she will do good at Nationals, I want to see her at Euros and Worlds.

What was the reason for switching anyway?

To me this is a confidence issue. She cannot let it go, she has to learn to go softer on herself after a bad skate. But above all Eteri should do something, and better here.

I agree. Confidence is the core of the issue, not boots or a troublesome FS. It all started in Sochi. Before the olympics she was so famous for being little Miss Cool and skated like she couldn't bother less about the public/media. But after the team event she realized she is being watched and took it badly. Now she tries much more to "meet expectations" and often looks like a frightened little child. I am worried about her.

Let's hope Eteri can help her to remember how to point a certain finger to the public and tell them a certain f-word (metaphorically speaking, of course :) ). Then her current problems will be gone in no time.

This sounds like a fiction of chaos. Whatever happened to the 4 year plan? She will definitely have something to tell the grandkids.

That sums it up pretty well. I think her team have gone in total confusion here, or maybe she wanted to give it a try. I don't know.
Ilya said she will be ready for the nationals, and this was after CoC. I noticed that at the time.

What was the reason for switching anyway?

I think she said they broke everyday, and caused some small injuries?
Anyway, I don't think it's the boots now.

In her own words:
I used the same brand of skates for 11 years, but there were problems all the time. The boots were always broken on the second day, they needed to be reinforced, to be tied tighter.

Now I switched to the new model. They felt like slippers to me, so unsual. On the first day I couldn't even understand what I was skating on. I got used to it, thank God, but still I don't feel 3F-3T and 3Lz-3T combinations in these boots, they are too soft. It's still scary to do it on full speed as I did before. So in short, there are lots of problems, it's very unsettling.

She said in the quote above to Lisa (3509) that with the new boots it was "scary to do (certain) jumps at full speed. She does seem to be back up to speed throughout her program.

Massive pain, chronic adjustments.

Thanks!

I knew she had boot problems but I didn’t know she had them for such a long time! That must be a pain in the a**! I hope she gets used to them; she’s my favorite skater and if it wasn’t for her genius I wouldn’t have even become interested in figure skating.

Lol...I hope so too! :cheer2: She needs to stop worrying about what others think of her, and get back to her old free “the devil could care” self. I think that’s one of the reasons why she was so successful, she never let it get to her head. And “Miss Cool” certainly suited her last season

When she switched to Jackson's earlier in the preseason they caused her issues with circulation and I believe she had to get shots to cure it.

I don't think it's the boots. She expects too much from herself and its starting to cost her overall. She'll figure it out. I don't think she has ever competed against anyone else so to speak To me she competes only against herself and is at war with the sport of figure skating if that even makes sense.

Agree. And I hope she can be easy on herself to let the heat down. So that the situation can be analyzed with a cool head. (It's not easy to do it given the busy season.)

I always remember the difference in Julia's Sochi performances in team vs. in singles. Before the team skates she looked just focused like she always had before a skate. But the singles SP was the first time I have seen her looking downright scared. I told myself "Uh-oh, that's not a good sign", and, unfortunately, so it was. Since then she hasn't been the same.

If we're talking about the same boots, it was a blister on the first day of use that became inflamed, the shots were for infection. It cost her about a week of sorely needed practice time.

I don't think it's so much that she expects too much from herself (which may also be true), but for now it's the public humiliation that comes with performing poorly even when she has asked for permission not to perform, together with not knowing why this is happening to her (so how can she correct it?). That much we know from what she has said and her reactions after the skates. She has experienced impairing mental and physical reactions. As I said above, I have little doubt mama and grandma will step in if this continues. They will not let her down. Nothing positive will come from pushing her when she is suffering as she is now. We might all reflect on this interview again, it is after CoC but as pertinent now as it was then: http://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/ind...autumn-winter-2014.93222/page-18#post-4374031

That's definitely where it started. And it was the same set of conditions that she is dealing with now (among other things that have piled on since then): no escape from the maddening crowd.
