Jason Brown

katmari I too have seen Mrs. P's wonderful post breaking it down.

Jason has not had a bad season. I know some people were hoping/expecting something a bit more dramatic, but geez it is the first year of a new quad (still hear the damn duck). He had a respectable season, he improved on last year, he set new personal bests, and can make a pretty good argument that he is the USA's number one guy for the year. To me there is much to be happy about.

I think Jason has a good mix of actually being good, but also actually being popular with both judges and audiences so that should help he. I want to see him at worlds and would love to see him as national champion, but I share karne's sentiments that I don't want his first national title to be due to PCS favoritism over a deserving skater's skate of their life type performance. I would be fine with silver or even bronze if the others skaters are flat out better. I am not sure "clean" is enough though. I don't think a dead clean program should automatically win over a a flawed but ok program with fire. Max and others have to be clean, but also bring their passion to the ice.

I hope Max gets his wish and has people dancing in the stands to Footloose due to his joy.
I hope Ricky finds his rhythm and figures out what level he can maintain for two full programs rather than fizzling out early, he needs some passion pacing.
I hope Josh gets his mojo back and not elaborate more.
And I hope Jeremy meets the love of his life on the way to Nationals who sweeps him off his feet to some exotic location that is his idea of paradise where he can just take a year being happy living in hedonistic pleasure.

 But I actually really hope so, for him.

And on another note, a young Swedish skater (boy? girl? I don't read Swedish) skates to Riverdance and even has a replica of Jason's costume. Inspiring the youngsters is also what it's about...

Jason Brown COSPLAY I love it!

That is such a cute video. I love that they even have the pony tail. And they did try to use some of the moves/steps/etc from it. So cute. So awesome. I love it!

Since his name is "Jonathan", I would assume boy... ? :)

I did not want to be culturally insensitive and assume that Jonathan is a boy's name:biggrin:, or that it was the name of the skater and not the name of the rink, or the competition, or whatever (although of course it makes sense that it is his name).

I think all Brownzillas should go to Worlds in Finland wearing green Riverdance shirts.:cheer:

FWIW the channel does have some other videos of the skater, some appear to be just jumps, one appear to be someone else with the same "last" name. All appear to be wearing pants, but that does not mean anything. I was wondering if we might be able to tell by elements ie would a layback be a tip off or are they common for young boys? I don't know, anyway, looking at the content might clue us into what the required elements are and gives us a clue.

But really who cares? Honestly I think it is great regardless of the gender of the skater. Why should a female not be allowed to do something like this? Heck I think encouraging kids to remember they can have role models and look up to people of any gender. I liked how your phrased it to be honest, no reason to assume. And after Japan Nationals introduced us to "No good Takashi people" and "True people tree village" and "This township management Hana" I am not going to assume much about a name translated to Johnathan. But I do think playing detective with the tech could be fascinating.

I'm probably the only person but I don't find this that cute...this one isn't quite as bad but this is not the first example I've seen of a younger skater "copying" an older skater, and I don't like it.

There was a young man a few years ago in Europe (I can never remember where from) who copied Plushenko's Godfather program. And by copy, I mean copy. They took everything - costume, hair, choreography (and this kid was attempting to do every piece of choreo that Plushy did, with the obvious exception of the jumps). And Plushy and his camp were actually quite cross about it, because this kid had effectively stolen the program. Plushy's choreographer did not get a cent for the choreography used in the program, etc.

I understand idolising a skater but I feel like a skater should be encouraged to be themselves on the ice. Artur knows what happens if you don't.

So it seems it is Kori's daughter's birthday today and Jason posted a very cute duet of the two of them.

Interestingly enough it is also Joshua Farris's Bday and Elena Radionova's bday. She is in good company!

This was SO CUTE! OMG!

Mind you, if this is how they carry on in public I'm not surprised those people at the airport thought he was her father

I wasn't able to find a whole lot about him, but I believe this solves it:) :

There is a difference between inspired by and flat copying. I can see where Plushies would have issues with what you described. And I can see where you are coming from. I still liked this one. I think part of it is who is being emulated too. Plushy is kinda an artist who takes his craft very seriously, I can see him being more sensitive to how much should be borrowed. Jason while an artist, also seems to embrace almost a life coach type role. He seems very much to want to reach out to the young people. So it can be a "know your audience" type thing. As I think Jason would be happy with this example I can enjoy it as well much more easily.

I also think the style you are coming from can be a factor. Jason is already borrowing from Riverdance so, he for lack of a better way to put it has less claim to it. While a Godfather routine, i.e. something not originally in the world of dance, would likely be something more uniquely its own. At any rate it is certainly interesting to talk about and think about.

They also do look a bit alike. Similar skin tone, similar noses, she has the wavy full of boy hair that he does. No one would bat an eye those two being cast as family members. I do still love the how did I go from son to husband? story. Even if it makes sense in its own way, still very cute and funny how impressions of people can change and how people can just make weird assumptions like that. Such a cute story and a nice picture of his abs I might add :slink:

BTW, I don't know if this other photo of shirtless Jason (and JoMo) ever was posted? I think it is from a Team KoRo group swim after they finished competing at Glacier Falls.

I wish that one was a little lower. . . I want to compare from about one year apart! It does look like his is more develop this year. Jordan looks to be as pale as me. . . i suddenly like him even more!

Easy (at least for me) to forget the upper body strength of these guys without visual reminders. ;)
(Sorry, too lazy to look up the old photo of them lifting weights together.)

ETA, another shirtless photo from the post-Glacier Falls swim party.

On a completely different and thoroughly wholesome note, a throwback photo of Rohene leading what looks like a ritual of team unity. (Kori and Jason were away for Rostelecom, I believe.)

Thx, Golden. Holy Moley. So all I need to do for six pack abs, male or female, is become an elite skater. No sweat. :laugh2:

Is Rohene the one in the aviator furry whatever-it-is hat? (what *is* that? I love you, Rohene, but....)

I think it is easy for a lot of people to forget to be honest. Especially with a skate like figure skating that also is concerned with being lean and lights. No, they still are will build under all that glitter. To be honest I would love to find HD slo mo footage of the guys jumping with no shirts on. I would love to look at what muscles are doing what during the jump, to me that would be so fascinating to see.

I hope we start seeing More of Rohene this year he is a delight!

All abs are different. Which is part of why I like this so much. A great example is Sasha Cohen's abs next to other skaters. I don't think anyone would mind having any of the abs in that photo, but only Sasha has the really muscled abs. These are women doing the same sport and presumably similar training, but with different results.

On the guys side. Look at Jeremy Abbott vs Richard Dornbush Both are perfectly lovely, but do look very different. Granted Jeremy is dangling, but his muscles seem to almost wrap around his body in long thin strips. Dornbush's are more globular (for lack of a better way of saying it) well muscled, but not in the traditional "six pack" look.

All of them are likely training not that dissimilar, and doing very similar stuff, but their bodies respond and look different. To me that is really interesting.

And yes karne I did look for Max, not that hard, but finding one was harder than i thought, the other ones I just remembered.

Rohene is wearing the Russian-style hat in other random photos that I have seen. Guess it is one of his favorites??

I know that karne has seen these photos from 2013 that show Max's abs, but for you, Stitch:

One of Max's USFS photo sessions in a studio also included some shirtless pics for some reason, but no "action" shots, IIRC.

Re Dornbush:
Would love to come up with a different word for his abs. How about "rippled" or "rippling?"
