I was going to write that his FS is not so bad and he has a chance... And the I realized he is the Potato king!

Such an underwhelming event and underwhelming lead (namely javier)

Terrific quad. Real performance ability. He just needs to work on his spins and control, but both will come in time. Definitely One To Keep An Eye On.
This is the 2nd season he uses this same programme. I also like the music and little details (breakdance moves), but his overall skating skills, finish and posture are not good.
He was lucky to qualify for the Free Skate with a fallen 4T<<, fallen 3A<<, and 2Lz*.
The 25th had a clean programme with 3F2Lo, 3Lz and 2A and won't make it to the Free Skate - despite the win in the Jason Brown lookalike competition.![]()

I read on FSU that Torun was counting because a competition in Bratislava was cancelled. This is the reason why Germany could send her second pair to Euros. They achieved their TES at Torun Nestle Cup.

ehhh.... he has good height?I still can't understand how some judges can give -1 to Kovtun's quad... always missing the step + bad position.. today it was also near to a fall... some judges didn't even give -3 to the first quad who was counted as the missing mandatory combo and was near to a fall too...

Sergei only had one doubled jump, hardly a meltdown. And frankly, after watching Canadian Nats this competition doesn't seem bad at all, comparatively.![]()
On reconsideration, would you think these scores seem kind of high?

I think that Chafik in FS isn't fair, guys behind him maybe doesn't have such SS and other components but Slavik skated clean. I also think that Javier 8 points from Sergei is too much. He didn't skate clean either, but these 8 points gave him kind of comfort for the free program. And Javi seems not to be so consistent sometimes. There is always some small mistake on the landing.
Sergei saved his axel and overall performance was very good and as I wrote he shouldn't be 8 points behind.
Brezina skated also very well till the flip...3A a 4S were amazing, with a great height, spins ans steps OK, but that poor flip...much easier than axel and salchow and he fell....at least he is not really behind.
Kovtun's landing wasn't really good, and I don't like his interpretation of Bolero but it wasn't disaster.
