Yuzuru Hanyu: 2014-15 Season

I wish Yuzu will have what he wishes for (心想事成). This is one of the traditional Chinese New Year greetings.

No kidding. In my country (the region I am from) we do have yuzu bath, only we do not use the whole yuzu. Instead we use the yuzu skin. It is to wash off bad luck/hardship (such as after being discharged from the hospital or even worse places...I'd better not mention it :biggrin:).

We eat yuzu skin as well. I mean, yuzu skin, not Yuzu's skin...

All this Yuzu talk :laugh2: did you know there are eggs that taste like Yuzu in Japan? Its due to their chicken's specially fed Yuzu diet :laugh:

Split with Brian while he still has very good results? I don't think so. It will only harms Yuzuru himself, see what happened to Yuna. Now that Brian has established himself as a golden coach, it's not like when Yuna left Brian years ago and people assume that his coaching career was over.

I have no doubt about Yuzuru's love for his hometown. But going abroad for just a several months a years to improve yourself doesn't seem like abandoning your hometown. Seriously how many months he spend in Canada a year for his training anyways? At most 4 months. The whole summer he stays in Japan and hardly has any rest. And he only has some rest now that he is injured, do you think JSF will let him rest for long if he's still in Japan? Seriously is just 3-4 months a year such a long time that he couldn't stand being away from his hometown? I doubt it.

Yuzuru has improved a lot ever since he has practiced under Order. Of course he could still improve no matter what, but there's a line saying: "Don't fix what is working well."

I highly doubt that Yuzuru doesn't trust Orser enough, especially after what has happened this season. It was Orser's strategy that helped Yuzuru at GPF and Nationals. I don't think Yuzuru is that unreasonable to believe he can win without Orser's help.

And to be frankly, Yuzuru himself should know that he is still far from his target, if he wants to make it to the next Olympic, he still has a loooooong way to go. Whether he could do it with Orser or other coaches, that remains to be seen. Yes, Yuzuru loves his hometown, he wants to represent Japan as a Japanese skaters, but winning for his hometown seems to be more important.

For now, staying with Orser is safer choice for Yuzuru. Not to mention he hasn't learned enough from Orser team.

Don't know what is going on but I remember how shocked I was when Yuna and Brian split. They seemed so happy in KC and then Yuna tweeted something like "B, do you think I am completely happy during the last four years?"...

But I don't think going to Canada in 2012 was against Yuzu's will. JSF might propose some overseas coaching opportunities to uprising stars such as Yuzu and kanako but it is the athletes who decide for themselves. Yuzu opted to go while kanako opted not. That is their own choice.

Sorry to spoil the mood. Can I just say at this point it seems Yuzuru won't go back to Orser? Just my 2 cents.
If you followed him back in 2012, his sudden coaching change and "trip" to Canada came out of the blue. Not saying that he was dragged there by force, but to me it never appeared as a genuine decision either.

There was once a report (from people in his ice-rink) stating he was crying rivers knowing he'd leave his how town (though it was difficult to check it's authenticity).
From the moment he trained in Toronto, he had a huge weight loss before his 1st competition (FT) to the point that he couldn't properly fit into his costumes.
After almost 2 years he still find it tough to live abroad (check the video in my 2nd post as I don't have the rights to post any links in the 1st one)

Also what about his wish to become an OGM in his home town? Video's been deleted so I'll just quote his saying:
"Interviewer: Is there something behind your feelings of wanting to stay in Sendai?
Yuzu: Honda and Arakawa are both from this rink, and they were in the Olympics.
I want to stay here and train, hopefully becoming Honda's successor.
I: Do you feel proud of being born in this city?
Y: Yes I do. I am happy I was able to meet this rink, and I feel as if I was raised by it, I think these things are destinies, so I'm happy."

"Y: Until now, usually Japanese (skaters) learn skating technique in foreign countries. I'm not against this, but I practice in Japan and thought I want to take the gold medal as a true representative of Japan.
I: Then will you be able to practice in Sendai in the future continuously?

Boy is known to be quite stubborn. Just wonder why he would have changed his mind.

Nanami's video message to Yuzu from 2012 April just before he was assigned a new coach "You have many hurdles to overcome from now, but let's clear them step by step to your goal. Let us have good time together from now too".
Didn't seem to me that she saw anything coming either...

I don't particularly trust what happens in K&C. Yuzu may now seem to have a son / father relationship whith Brian (in front of cameras) Well, let's remember Yuna. She and Brian seemed to have the best coach / student relationship yet that split caught everyone off guard. Mao, looked like she was in very good terms with Raf until she came at worlds alone.

You never know what's going on behind the scene.

I know. Injuries are the supposedly reasons to why he's still in Japan. I would have thought so until January. Now it becomes like... I won't say an excuse (would be eaten up for that) but let's say an "opportunity" he took to stay in Japan?
I don't see otherwise why things seem to be that fuzzy betwwen JSF and CC at the moment.
I may be wrong, and in that case I'll just laugh it off, but I wouldn't be surprised the least if he'd split with Brian by the end of the season.

You all have your opinions, I'm in the minority, but this is mine. Though I can understand if you're a post-Sochi fan, we don't see things from the same angle which is normal.

But for a second ... I imagined Plushy carring Winnie for Yuzuru..... :rofl:

Between Orser and Yuna, it was more complicated than that. When Yuna moved to Orser, I heard that she was not very happy, she took 5-6 sessions of practice per day and David and Orser had to try various strategies to help her feel better with skating. And there's the rumors about Orser being asked by JSF to coach Mao, Yuna's main rival, then there's the fiasco in which Orser accidentally told the press about Yuna's music selection even though she told him not to reveal it too early. And not to mention Yuna was Orser's first student so I guess there were times Orser was not sensitive enough towards her. I don't think the current Orser is insensitive to the point he makes Yuzuru feel uncomfortable like Yuna did years ago.

I think so too. Yuzuru also said he would go anywhere and do anything to improve. I don't think he just stops now when he still hasn't improved enough. Let's not forget next season Patrick will come back, he will not get the highest PCS in the field when Patrick is there.

Yuzuru knows that he's not perfect, his stamina needs major improvement and he still needs better control. His 4S is unstable in competition, his 3lz3T is having trouble as well. In short he knows that he has issues that need to be fixed. He needs to work on his issues. It's kind of going backwards if he left his coaching team and only work with...for example Ms. Abe. He needs to work with many people, to try various styles. See what happened to Yuna when she only works with David Wilson. She's still great, still she could have been greater had she worked with other coaches and choreographers. But yes, her main goal was Vancouver so I can understand her choice. Yuzuru, on the other hand, has set his goal for 2018, he needs to stay out of the confort zone.

Now tell me, you're an ambitious athlete who wants to improve yourself, and you haven't archived your final goal, will you just stop here and come back to where you begin just to feel safer and cuddle? I have little love for whatever David Wilson has choreographed for Yuzuru, but he has improved immensely under DW, JW, Shae-Lynn and overall Orser team has done a good job for him to thrive. Yuzuru himself knows it the best.

Orser's strategy is working for Yuzuru, both when it comes to his skating skill and stamina, there's no reason to break it.

I remember seeing this video...should be an interview right after he won the JW title when he was 15. Things have been changed a lot from then. I would believe he will go anywhere that can help him improve towards his 2018 goal the most. Not to argue with you...but how many people stick to your thoughts when you were 15? I never wanted to live aboard (I am VERY Asian), and I even rejected my boyfriend because he had the plan to move to the US. Guess what, I now have been living in the US for over a decade (with that same boyfriend, who has been the husband since the move).

I truly feel for Yuzu about how though to live in a foreign country. In our case, no family around (just we two), very limited financial resources at the beginning - we completely lived on my husband's fellowship, and I almost had to drop out of school without the graduate assistantship (could not afford tuitions). Poor English - although I was a straight A student I barely talked in or after class. My first job was extremely painful because I did not understand what people were talking about in meetings, or over the phones. I still remember how scared I was when the phone rang. And HUGE culture shock (I still have it), loneliness and homesick... long distance with my husband three times in 10 years (will have the 4th one in a couple of weeks, darn it), including the whole time when I was expecting a baby. I can go on and on and on, but it is not about me so I will just stop here. The point is, I think I know how hard it is from my personal experiences.

But if you have a goal, you will get through it. If Toronto can provide the best for Yuzu (coach, choreographer, training mates, environments etc), I don't see why he will give it up. After all, he has been through the first two toughest years living there, and he is such a tough guy.

That said, whatever he decides, I will understand and support him.
