2015 Worlds Ladies Short Program March 26

LOL. But what's the value in taking over the US if you're going to lose to all the Russians and Japanese skaters. Sigh...
Polina would be ahead of one Japanese skater if she didn't insist on doing 3F in the SP. I'm hardly draconian about edges, and I'm all for skaters having beliefs/principles... but it's just getting silly at this point. Her flip is a lip, she's lucky it didn't get e, and her team should've worked on footwork into 3Lo. She had many chances earlier in the season to change that... heck, even the "uncomfortable new layout at Worlds" excuses hardly works, after we saw Liza nail a 3A.

However, Rika's UR-prone in the LP and Zijun still lacks stamina, so Polina has a good chance to move ahead.

I was very impressed with the ladies at US Nationals this year, but it seems like they don't deliver on the big stage. But tomorrow's another day, as they say. There's always the LP, and the future World Championships.

Yes, Polina might be ahead if she changes, but she won't change because she's confident that her 3F is perfect, unfortunately.

In this competition, where it mattered, I think Satoko rotated all her jumps. I also think she had a beautiful step sequence, timed perfectly to the music. To me, she's an exquisite skater.
I have just rewatched Satoko's SP in slow motion, especially her flip, UR definitely. And I have set it to 0.25 of slow motion by the replay already. Untruthful TES is untruthful TES. That's it.

I know I Know, Mao should be so ashamed she accomplished:disapp: so little.

I wasn't saying that. I was pointing out the fact that Liza pulled off a 3-3 (in the second half, at that), in spite of having to deal with a 3A in the first half.

IMO the choreo kinda suffered... you could tell she was very focused on landing the jumps -- things like the blown kiss were very mechanical. I suppose it's a trade-off... she was probably thinking of her upcoming elements, and once they were done she could start performing the program.

The fact that shes so insistent on believing that shes perfect-techniques wise irritates the hell out of me. :scowl:

Liza's choreo and second mark are weak. Beauty isn't her thing. But I see nice improvement in her speed, SPINS and steps. Her jumps are simply incredible. She's incredibly fit. She's charismatic. She isn't a balanced skater, but who is at this point. If someone like that comes along only then would she lose.

Satoko's jump technique is more flawed than Kanako. Satoko pre rotated almost a whole revolution on toe pick. Ask Sam's slow motion video.

Obviously, the judges don't agree with you at this competition. If you think it's rigged, why bother following the sport? It's no fun watching figure skating when someone claim it's rigged by the Japan skating feds.

Just because Miyahara underrotated her jumps at other competitions, don't assume she is underrotating every jump at every competiton.

Gracie Gold: "It’s always hard to skate after a great performance, but I had higher or equal scores before without a triple Axel, so I think that score didn’t scare me out." With all due respect, when and where?

I've only managed to see Liza's performance so far. what a woman!  I may not like her program and choreography (those excessive, un-extended arm movements kill me) but my goodness those jumps! and to think she couldn't even make worlds last year! truly happy for her and hope she keeps it up! Now team Liza find a better choreographer for next year!

regarding US ladies...I don't know what to say. With so many greats of the last decade retired or on sabbatical, this WC is their best shot at a medal in years... and then this happens.

Is she...delusional? Or did she think Liza scored 67 as opposed to 77?

I thought that you posted something about a Buttbomb. I was hoping to see a weird fall or something. I was very disappointed once I opened it up to say the least. No wonder this sport is suffering. Even decorated athletes who have earned a living off of Figure Skating struggle with the concept of respect and can't rise above their own inner child when speaking in public. This line of thinking just makes me want to tune out.

Lol what? *Patrick-Sochi SP comment flashbacks* Was this during the conference or something?

REPEAT: I HAVE JUST REWATCHED HER SP IN THIS EVENT. NOT JUST THE FLIP, EVEN HER 3-3 HAD PRE-ROTATED the WHOLE first REVOLUTION ON TOE PICK!!! THAT'S THE WORST JUMPING TECHNIQUE EVER.

Thank you for the suggestion. You want evidence then? Frame by frame screenshots coming soon.

It doesn't have to be a contest. Skating can evolve year to year and reach new levels of difficulty without taking anything away from the skaters who came before. I love Michelle Kwan but acknowledge the jumpers today are more skilled than she was, but her artistry and skill elevated the sport at the time.

I think In the same way Mao's skill with the 3A paved the way for skilled jumpers like Tuk. Having a lady consistently challenge herself with the 3A like Mao did made the jump more of a real possibility for future skaters.

Yuna, Mao, and many of the skaters before them were greats. Having great skaters now doesn't make them less great and it's exciting to see young skaters evolve and grow into future greats. Comparing them all is kind of pointless. Both Mao and Tuk are fantastic skaters with their own strengths and weaknesses.

I think if Tuk can get the PCS improved she could be even more impressive. But she has time to grow, that doesn't take away from what she achieved here.

Best post in this thread! :)

OOO. This sounds interesting.

Is their video yet? I'd love to do another slow motion of her jumps. I've seen a few posters say my video exposed her flaws on a fully credited with positive GOE jump. Maybe if I make one from this WC I'll be able to show her improvement since then and convince people that her 3-3 should in fact score higher than say So Youn's.

I was horrified by the underrotation on that jumpamatron, Sam. Why is she getting +GOE on clearly underrotated jumps? Someone needs to be forwarding these videos to the tech panel.

Makes me think the tech panel is just picking jumps at random.
