Sometimes short-term sacrifices have to be made for long time gains.
 
My two cents (YMMV):

Expecting a videographer to provide many hours of videography free of charge strikes me as completely unrealistic.

"They would rather make money than improving and growing the sport" is an accusation that then should be targeted also at:
- any coach who expects to be compensated for her/his coaching
- any choreographer who expects to be compensated for her/his choreo
- any rink owner who expects to be compensated for ice time
etc., etc.​

Then again I'll edit down a video for 5hrs just to get 100 views of which at least 20 are from me. :laugh2:

Then. . . don't edit it. See I think a camera on a tripod unattended and unedited would be more more benefit to the sport than a professionally filmed and edited copy of the program. Editing takes time. Loading a file onto a few dozen USB sticks. . . well takes time to transfer, but very little in actual work. Getting the file to the point that it can be loaded is what takes time.

It is not about not paying someone for their efforts. It is about not having access to any other options other than paying for their time and efforts. That is what bugs me. Frankly a decent videographer should be able to put something together that is worth buying not out of lack of options but due to it being well done a quality piece in its own right (and I am sure many do). Your videos are well done and have merit on their own, we watch them because we enjoy them and the quality, not due to lack of options. If the videographer was including stuff like what you do with the recordings, I would be singing their praises! Honestly, a part of me wonder about the quality of any professional that would be threatened by a camera on a tripod that never cuts, never zooms, never does anything but fill up space on a disc. Really a professional should be producing something much more.

I don't think studding your technique out of competition is enough, I just feel like if we really want this sport to grow and be taken seriously we need embrace technology and what it can do for the sport. That includes studying recordings. I would rather armature recordings be available than only professional ones to purchase. If financially they can't hire someone to film it professionally without locking out the skaters, frankly I think skipping the professional filming is the better idea.

Maybe an option might be to do something similar to what some photographers do and give a limited time limited access login to view the stuff. Even giving skates and coaches one month to view it would be a help. While I still think the skaters should have their programs, I could live with something like this as it would at least give them a chance to look at it and study it at least for a brief period of time.

Hell or they could just hire you to Jump-a-matron all the skaters so cynical jerks like me can feel like there is actually value in what is being sold.

I still a lot of good than can come from what you are doing. I am pretty sure Elvis Stojko said he learned his quad by studding old VHS tapes of other quads. It is a tool that i want to see grown and I want to see it flourish.

I actually think that the combo was pretty good, I'm curious wether it really is or not. I still hope that the only problem for her is the flip, but even the flip looked better than usual. But ... I'm not sure ... :shrug:

Scrapped why? Gave up? Accidentally deleted your work? Always remember: SE-SO (Save Early, Save Often) ;) I usually have at least 5 to 10 different save points of every video I've worked on by the end, because it's so easy (in a single click) to really botch up an hour's worth of work. :bang:
 
My vaio is too weak for video editing but I can provide frame by frame screenshot in case anyone requires.

I realized that some 480 quality stuff got in by accident and it just sent me thru the roof. Plus I'm trying to arrange a weird soundtrack and the music was just pushing my buttons too. Really it's just frustrating because I had selected about 10-15 clips for about 7 skaters and had them all ready to go. Then I freaked out and deleted it all :laugh:
 
If anyone is looking for ideas, I thought i would post this pic as something that might intrigue some of you. Please don't take this as a me asking ya'll to do more work, I appreciate what you do, but I did think you when I saw it and thought some of you might like the idea.
