Yuzuru Hanyu: 2014-15 Season

Ahh!! it's a year already!! Time really flies and I have been yuzu's fan for a year already!

Yeah, one year..
Many things happened. Being his fan is tough..I've had enough worry about him to age me 10 years....
But at the same time, he is always giving me something special. I cannot thank him enough...

Yuzu's the first to make me interested in following figure skating (just like how kohei uchimura made me interested in mens gymnastics!) --> Yuzu's also a legendary figure for sure if he stays healthy! I only knew Asada Mao and Kim Yuna before I knew yuzu, and now I know a lot of figure skaters~

Sorry for hijacking this thread a bit.... :hijacked:

BTW, he just won his 8th straight National Championships today! Hooray! :cheer:Watched it on TV.
Anyway, Yuzu really draws one in to figure skating and I hope he can stay uninjured for the next 3 years!

Hahaha!
Let's pray for his health! Yuzu must find it happy that there are many fans of his to get interested in fs by knowing him. He really loves fs and devotes himself to it.

P.s. many people point the similarity of uchimura and yuzu. Their talent, character, good looks, etc...Someday, we can see their two shot at like a sport award ceremony.(actually,, they got the same big award together, so we expected their talk and photo. But yuzu had to be absent from the ceremony this January due to his desease, and it didn't happen.)
After collision at coc, yuzu got a lot of critisism. At that time, uchimura supperted him by saying like this, "if I were in such a situation,I would go."
Further, he admired spread eagle 3a at coc sp!

And they both make difficult things look easy, and full of style! Amazing guys!

Yes! that's the thing both must be admired about. Really amazing! We are happy to see such huge talent!

Actually, I watched uchimura live at competition, i realized he had" the ability to manipulate the moment" like yuzu. Awesome is what I call it.

These are two athletes who I really want to see live but it's not possible :(

A translation of an article about the current Yokozuna, Hakuhou, talking about Yuzu.

To have a champion, highest rank sumo wrestler in Japan WANT to watch to Yuzu perform live and commend him of being a worthy champion is an honor. I know other champions such as Plushy have talked about Yuzu, but to have a Yokozuna, a very respected person throughout Japan, as well as someone who is not involved in FS is very surprising! Quite incredible!

An interesting interview! Thanks for sharing! I remember seeing uchimura comment about yuzu and his coc fs skate before

Sorry, this isn't really Yuzu related but, does anyone know the name of the main Japanese commentator? I know Takeshi and Nobu commentate for mens, Shizuka and Akiko do ladies, and Matsuoka does the field reports, but who is the guy that does both? I can't read kanji so I never learned his name...

Hi everyone.

Joined here for about one year already. But haven't found a courage to post anything, as I know nothing about this sport. I thought it's strange for me liking something that I really know nothing about. Even the way I first came across Yuzuru is kinda unusual (via an animal-themed variety show which has a member my favorite J-idol group as a regular). Now, one year later, I still scratch my head trying to learn about types of jumps, spins and everything. Is there any key points to recognize jumps? And I'm not officially diagnosed with it but I think I have IHYS.

Oh, another thing I want to ask. Is all part of the costume stretchy? or only some parts, like only the sides, or only the illusion mesh and such?

Um, its still kinda hard for me to recognize certain jumps and Ive been watching for 2 years! Easy way to get a general idea is that the Toe Loop, Flip and Lutz all are toe pick assisted jumps, so youll see the skate pick into the ice. Salchow and loop are edge assisted jumps so, no pick into the ice, the best way i can describe is kinda like a sharp turn into the ice. And the axel is the easiest to tell, it looks like you are kicking/jumping into the air.

Flip is from an inside edge while lutz is from an outside so pay attention to the front skate boot before the take off. Its harder to tell for ladies since most tend to flutz. I still have hard time telling loop and sal so i wont be much help.

As for spins, a good way of recognizing spins is actually to watch the Japanese commentary of skating. They point out difficult spin positions and the names are all in english so you'll understand! Basics are usually the biellmann, pull the leg over the head, camel, the upper body and leg is parallel to the ice. Donut, when you spin it looks like a donut, layback, your back is laid back while spining and the sit position, a spin that looks like your sitting.

Im not sure about the costume parts, but it looks like everything is strechy material, even the pants to some extent since it gets a nice body fit, unless you wear a shirt like Yuzu's PW

what variety show, they mentioned yuzu in it?

Don't worry as you're not alone, I know nothing about jumps too and I can only judge.as an amateur so far....

I'm sure we can learn more from this thread as some of us obviously knows a lot about fs!
