Historical "firsts" for 2014-15?

I think Yagudin did this first in the 2001-2002 season. He won six out of seven competitions that season.

Yes if it is the same season Yagudin did it first in 2001-2002 with GPF (Dec2001), Olympic (Feb2002), Worlds (Mar2002). Yuzu equal this in 2013-2014 season with GPF (Dec2013), Olympic (Feb2014), Worlds (Mar2014).

I'm referring to a treble within the same year (in this case year 2014) and not within the same season.

Okay. Thanks for pointing it out :) My mind tends to see the competitions in seasons rather than in years.

I think Denis Ten's 4CC win is the first ISU Championship win ever for Kazakhstan (should have been 2013 Worlds but oh well)

The first for Kazakhstan at the senior level yes because Denis won the 2008 ISU JGP at Gomel/BLR (http://www.isuresults.com/bios/isufs00008858.htm). His bronze at the 2014 TEB is the first Senior GP medal for Kazakhstan. Denis is surely making history for Kazakhstan FS. :)

ETA: The 2015 senior Worlds ladies' podium was made up of first-time senior Worlds medalists. Except for the first Worlds :p, not sure if this is a first.

Are any of the top ladies practicing any quads so far? e.g. Liza?

Serafima is the only one I remember actually saying she intended to train 4s this summer. I think that was before they decided to make her stay junior where I don't even think it's allowed. :bang:

Isn't it allowed? Miki's only ratified 4S was at the JGPF

Gracie has made a comment that she thinks a 4S would be easier for her than a 3A so we might see some talk from her. She did not say this in an elitist manner, more in a she has better technique with some jumps other than axel. I think it would be fine for a ladies skater to go for a quad over a 3A if they are more comfortable as the 3A is just so weird.

I think Anna Pogorilaya has said she is starting to try for one as well - though it may have been the 3A.

Miyu Nakashio posted a clip of a quad toe attempt in practice.

I think some skaters have already try some quad but not many are planning to show it in the competition. I don't remember Liza said something like this. From Russians I just remember Julia said that if she would try to do some difficult jumps it would be probably a quad toe, but I don't think this is her goal right now as she concentrates to improve her technique on all the jumps.

It is not allowed in the junior ladies SP (actually it is not allowed even for senior ladies SP). But in FP there is no problem. It only says the ladies(both junior and senior) must perform 7 jumping passes.

That was a JGP win, I'm talking about ISU Championship which is 4CC/Euros or Worlds. His Bronze at TEB was the first singles senior GP medal for Kazakhstan yes but Marina Khalturina and Andrei Krukov won a silver medal at Skate Canada in 1998.

Maybe not so significant for some but it was the first time China hosted Worlds, IIRC. Same thing with Spain and the GPF though that was mentioned already. And well, it's the first time music with lyrics is allowed for all the categories.

Ok noted. I cited that JGP win as it was the one highlighted in his ISU results bio I earlier linked:

" Ten is the first figure skater from Kazakhstan to take a medal at the Olympic Winter Games (bronze in 2014), at the ISU World Figure Skating Championships (silver in 2013) and he is the first to medal at an ISU competition (gold at 2008 ISU Junior Grand Prix in Gomel/BLR) . Ten is a descendant of famous Korean General Min Keung Ho. His family is part of the Korean minority in Kazakhstan. Ten switched coaches after the 2009/2010 season and has moved to the USA for training. Ten also works with two-time World Champion Stephane Lambiel."

And I didn't know that Kazakhstan has had an accomplished pairs team. Thanks for the info.

I think Javier's world title for Spain was the biggest "first" from the season.

I have to say again: Liza becoming the first woman to land 4 triples in SP, and the first Russian women since L.Nelidnina to land 3A! :cheer:

Thanks, Stitchmonkey, Sophie-Anna, and Sam-Skwantch. It does sound like there will be quads coming from the ladies soon :)

Agreed, as well as the hosting of a major ISU Championship event (Grand Prix Final) in Spain.
What a success story. The fan enthusiasm in Barcelona is certainly welcome given how the sport fades in terms of popularity in North America, particularly during non-Olympic years

Yes, Barcelona was amazing. Even though I could watch it just on my computer I could feel the atmosphere was amazing. I didn't expect this because there was no big competitions in Spain before, and it is not really a typical sport for this nation. I really think there should be GP event every year.

Plus I wish the same announcer will be there again.
