I think that Brown´s body type is not easy to make a costume for (a short guy with wide shoulders and ponytail which make his neck look shorter than it may be). About his fs: Combined with the sloooow music this program showcases his lack of skating speed really well.

Remind me - have you ever said a single positive thing about Jason?

Hm... i wonder if Polina may benefit from swap her SP and LP costumes around? Black seems too heavy and mature for something like moon light sonata where it is about describing lightness and serenity. Where as it should be the other way round for GWTW FS (except it has that Charleston/Southern happy 2nd half music section hmm.. not sure now! What a strange music edit version of GWTW program?! It kind of misses the whole point?)

Who want to bet she has never seen the film.

Hey am I the only one thought Courtney looks out there? Jumps seems bigger, speed faster. Interesting music selection, nice variation through out, so much empowerment that suit her style! Not bad at all! Love the fact she went for the 3A!

It's the first competition of the season and early August so it's not a worry to me. I think she was more into thinking her way through the choreography and hopefully she will loosen up as she gets miles with these programs.

In addition to the 3A effort, which I applaud, it looks to me like Courtney has really worked on her skating skills. She still hunches a bit at times, but her edges are deeper and she seems to be feeling the music. I think this year's FS suits her well, and once she gets comfortable with it and hits all the jumps, she'll be a contender.

Any word about Karen? I hope she didn't get hurt in that nasty fall in the SP?

Gracie's program comes across pretty generic to me at this point--hopefully a little more fire as the season goes on will help. Her dress is gorgeous!

I hope Jason look particularly slow here simply because the footwork is so convoluted and he's not at ease with it yet. First time out and all that. I'm more worried about the inconsistent 3A, tbh.

Not uncommon for a skater to arrive at a summer comp with the intention of completing only in the SP, afaik.

You may ask. I am not Jewish. I have blood relatives who are Jewish; I have had friends throughout my life who are Jewish; etc. Their way of writing the word is fine by me (not that they need my approval, of course). As a non-Jew, I usually use the full spelling. This time I did not.

I apologize for not being clearer about Karen's withdrawal. I do not know the reasons why, but she and Richard Dornbush had both indicated after the SP, that they both would withdraw from the FS. I do know that Richard is planning on competing at U. S. Collegiate, next week. I do not have a reason for Karen, nor was it required that she give one. From my sources, however, she is doing just fine, no injuries or illness.

And thank you for the support of my skater...he did just fine...very proud of his success this early in the season.

^^IIRC, Karen and Ricky are training at the same club under the same coaching team, maybe this is just their strategy. Or maybe, LP is not ready yet.

I'm a fan of both of Gracie's programs this season!!! Her feather fingers during the bows were simply adorable.

Still have to catch up on the rest of the programs.

Question: has Mariah always had an e problem on her lutz or is this recent? I recall during her TSL interview that the lutz was her favorite jump, so I'm curious.

I wonder if she's going to do that going forward when she takes her bows? I think it might get a bit tired after a while, but that's IMO. Her programs are both improvements over last season, but as many have said she's got to fix her 3z/3t hitting the boards issue. Even in the FS she was pretty close.

Congrats to Gracie on her 1st place finish (and her sister Carly didn't do so badly either) - hope this is a good indicator that she will have a strong season.

Just watched Jason. He wasn't perfect, obviously, but that program has the potential to be SUBLIME. There are moments of it every now and then, and I can't wait to see it all weaved together perfectly. It'll take time, but he'll be there by Nationals I think.

As for his costume: I don't hate the idea of the sash-sleeve, but I'd prefer to see it in a darker purple or dark blue, something that stands out from the black but doesn't stand out too much as to be distracting. He's creating some beautiful lines out there, but drawing too much attention to one of his limbs is a bit off-putting. Also sew it on to the costume!

Lutz indeed is Mariah Bell's fav jump. She does not have a deep outside through from before. And now, she is trying to use loop entry to force her outside edge, it seems.
my observation is that lutz jump became more difficult for her as she grew. She did not have the best lutz take-off technique from beginning, although it is indeed her fav jump.

It seems to me Gracie nearly hits the boards due to hesitation. Here at GF she hesitated between the 3z-3t and in the SP causing the issue again. She also hesitates a bit going into that combo. I love Gracie and the concept behind this FS but she is still showing technical issues that make me more than a bit curious. I also think as others have stated that she needs to insert a bit more fire into Firebird. She'll likely be the US number one if I'm allowed to speculate. Good programs that should give her a vehicle to move forward but will she get her technical issues under control?

I really like Mariah's programs a lot despite her errors. Best dressed in my not so unbiased opinion. To me Mariah knows how to deliver an elegant line and show commitment to the program at the same time. A bit of grace and zest if you will. She has a way of bringing programs to life. Sometimes I wish she could just go for the jugular but part of me thinks she's always destined to be the sweetheart of figure skating. The only bummer I take from this is that this event should have been circled on her calendar as being "moving day"! A chance to make a power grab in a way. More so than most others in many ways. Glad she medaled but this could have been a statement weekend for her. Oh well.....she is still looking pretty good and as always full of potential.

I checked some of the protocols from Mariah's recent international comps, and it looks like at Nebelhorn, she got an e call on her lutz in the short and two !s on her lutzes in the LP, and got an ! on her lutz in the short and an ! and an e on her lutzes in the LP at Golden Spin.
