Still poor planning.

More bad luck. They did not plan the draw after all.

Still usually someone steps in to be friendly. I know John Coughlin did that at the last minute for someone I think not even a pairs skater at US Classic last year. Tom Z is in the audience, ask him, he seems to like attention enough that I think he would be happy for another chance to be on camera. I actually do like Tom Z, and love how happy he gets for his skaters in the K&C - I would not object to him being there if i was a skater - and yes I am sure he would enjoy supporting the skater as well as getting extra attention.

Her ISU bio says she started skating in 2006, so she was either 5 or 6 years old.

Mai skated to Giselle pretty well imo. Really fast rotations from this girl, and she's super cute. I'm a fan of her now.

I got the impression it was more that things did not just seem to start clicking till very recently. Her most recent coaching situation seems to be one that works for her.

I agree. Somebody should've been there with her. She's team USA, so one of the other coaches should've been there beside her.

Tsurskaya kind of reminds me of a more consistent 2003-ish Carolina Kostner. Her jumps are awesome, although this program is weird...

I misspoke. I meant for now. But it couldn't have been easy for her knowing that she doesn't have a coach to be by her side. I wonder if figure skating with benefit for having a program like gymnastics for you have a head coach supporting the whole team like Béla Károlyi.

IMO Polina, Mai and Vivian were overscored. They were good, but not that good.

Yes, it was the Men's free skate Kiss and Cry in SLC. IIRC, the skater represented Mexico ... and I think the coach was unable to travel to SLC.
Coughlin reached out to the skater after noticing that he had been alone in the SP Kiss and Cry.

I am wondering whether it is possible that the JGP has stricter rules (compared to SLC/Challenger) about who is permitted to sit in the Kiss and Cry with each skater?? Maybe the JGP doesn't allow anyone except the skater's own coach or choreographer of record??
