I thought 4Loop sing loop triple axel was allowable now kind of like the triple lutz loop salchow or triple toe loop triple salchow.

this year is a good one for fans.... so many opportunities and not so much at stakes... look at NH... Balde was amazing... who would have thought? not me... i am canadian... he has never won a medal in canadian nationals but then owns NH :) haha it was great... so happy he took his opportunity. now.. here is something that nobody as far as I know, as talked about... didn't Yuzu land 4Loop ? why isn't he using that deadly weapon? at one point there was a rumour about chan doing 4S? was that just a rumour?

and finally, who would most likely succeed to land a 4 F? i think chan has the best 3F so i'd vote for him but after so many years, I have never heard about anyone even trying it... (4Lz has been tried for over 15 years...(michael Weiss) 4 loop was tried by lovely kevin reynolds .....

Yuzu will never even try it. He HATES the flip.

Hanyu also landed quad lutz, but he is not practicing it and has no plans on ever trying it in competition

I don't know exactly how that would work, with the forward-edge take-off on the second jump. (?)

You're allowed to just step forward from another jump landing into an axel (thus no need for half-loop in between), or to do a tap-toe or mazurka or other hop to get from the back outside landing edge to the forward outside of the other foot for the axel takeoff.

But these turn the element into a jump sequence, not a jump combination, which only earns 80% of the base value. So it's rarely the best option for a skater aiming to maximize base value.

Thanks a lot for your explanation!:)

if they started in the same season, Chan is two WCs behind and a full season too... it's totally normal he wouldn't have substantially more 4T than yuzu... you would need to look at percentage of landed 4Ts to see something meaningful in the stats.

I agree with you with the Chan/Ten 4t-3t... when it's on, easy to do the combo so they probably try it in the first jump, if it's not good enough, in the second... so we get great 4t-3t and sometimes less good 4ts...

Thanks very much for this (for the previous chart too) :)

I'm pretty surprised that Hanyu here is getting better GOE for his solo 4T on average - probably because Chan has 2 and tends to turn the successful 4T into the combo (the first one if it's landed well enough, and if not, than the 2nd). It's similar to DTen, who basically lands half of his 4T in the LP - but if you look through the protocols, he usually has a well done 4T-3T and an unsuccessful single 4T, because if he nails the 4T he can add a 3T with relatively little difficulty.
It's still surprising though that Chans combined number of landed 4Ts (4T + 4T3T = 25+21=46) isn't that much higher than Hanyu completed 4Ts (36), I expected that to be different. But they started going for quads in the same season actually

back to the reason behind this thread. At this point it is Hanyu's to lose but I do think we are forgetting about Ten, Fernandez and maybe Brown since everyone seems to love Brown.

Love is not everything. He has to prove himself as a top contender first. He needs a good quad first. And if he wants to top Hanyu or Chan- he needs to have at least two of them- one in SP and one in LP.
Nobody forgets Javi and Denis. Nobody wishes to look in Kovtun's direction. He may be the same kind of threat as Brown. He has quads. He just needs to land them. As much as I hate it but judges seem to grant him high PCS when he lands his jumps more or less clean. And those PCS are not fair as his skating skills are not that impressive. We have at least 5-6 top 10 guys whose skating skills are better and they don't place higher because of technical issues they have.

there's another thread for that topic... power rankings men... here we are only or mostly talking about chan vs hanyu... ;) hence the name of the thread ... i don't think we are forgetting the others... we are just entertaining this rivalry ;)

We already have his SP, and well, JO is the day after tomorrow. Are practice videos from JO broadcasted?

Maybe he will try 4A ;) since he like axel and can do 3A from stand still
I don't expect Yuzuru to add more than 1 quad to his competitive basket prior to Olympics to be honest. Hope he masters 4Lo enough to use it actively starting with the season 16-17 or he may keep it till the Olympic season. At the same time I really wish he has his all quads working, you know, no falls.
