I wonder how is his succes rate right now with 3 quads in practice, can't wait to see his first competition in 10 days but I don't expect too much there

i'm not keeping my expectations too high either, but it's a relief to think that he is well-prepared entering this season. although i must admit, the 2nd-half quad is still making me nervous.

watching JO got me pumped for his 1st competition

Denis Ten withdrew from SCAC

Yes, I know that. I posted that before it was announced that he had withdrawn. Now, I think it should be fairly easy for Yuzu to place 1st (I think he'll finally share a podium with Nam  )

Mr. Hanyu is playing a very dangerous game. He goes for hard layout beyond his stamina. Will he skate cleanly even just one? Both his short and long are so dangerous, especially the short.

But I guess it's better than being a champion who plays safe.

It obvious that he is not going for 3 quads without thinking about upping stamina. I am sure he is spending a lot time in gym

Mr. Hanyu always seems to be the type who lacks core strength to me, his jumps rely on his technique and his small frame other than power. I think his technique is super (when he lands his jumps) but he needs to build more core strength.

I don't think I can really agree with that, because his quads and triple axels are big, and that can't come just from technique but he needs to have strength to pull that kind of height, but maybe I am wrong

Well, we shall see how it goes this season, won't we? A competitor should always strive for more and challenge himself.

Mr. Hanyu has very springy leg muscles.
Quad is more about power, which last season he lacked, especially with quad Toe he needs healthy ankle for it, but it seems he has bad ankle.
3A is more about technique, which he has always been reliable at.

Your point being...?

We all know the reason of many of his failures last season were injuries and lack of training. Without injuries and with sufficient training he'll by pulling off quads as well as any other guy and much better than most.

In short Mr. Hanyu still looks fragile. I know it's his body type and I am glad he no longer crawls on the ice like before. But his last outing he didn't land 2 quads, just 1. So it will be huge challenge for him to go for 3 quads. If he is not clean, judges will not hesitate to out other weaker jumper or skater over him because they happen to be ore consistent.

His great technique and quality and reputation don't guarantee as much as some people assume.
From the ice shows during summer, he looks like he still has a long way to go before he get enough the power, stamina...for his insane layout.

Good luck to him. It will be a treat for fans if he can handle that layout.

Judges will reward the one who performs best. If someone performs better than Yuzuru and consistently outjump him, it will mean that person is a stronger, not weaker jumper. It's Yuzuru's and his team's job to prepare him for the difficult layout, but they won't know until they try. Playing it safe is likely to be more dangerous medal-wise than challenging himself, mastering the layout and building up the stamina to pull it off.

won0066. I loved your post. It was great to see the "bloopers" Yuzu. I laughed a lot.
Speaking of his strength, I believe Yuzu know well its limitations. I remember World 2012/2013/2015 and COC / 2014, when he demonstrated strength and power to overcome difficulties. I imagine now that he had more time to prepare and is without injuries. For me the ice show has different structure and conditions of competition. Its current and extremely challenging program, but Yuzu loves challenges. Yuzu GO!!!

Three quads, one of them 4-3 is to play safe? I suppose that you refer to Fernandez and his FS program for this year. I'd like to see something different too, but maybe he likes them and feels confident that he can be convincing with them, or maybe he's not had enough time this year for something very different. I'm really delighted that Mr.Hanyu decided to skate again to Chopin for his SP this year too :)

I really like Chopin and I think that this decision allowed him to have more time to focus on Seimei. I look forward to the start of the season and pray that Yuzu achieve their goals and do their best without injury. A lot of positive energy for him.

Here is the translation of P&G Yuzu's Days series latest interview released on Oct 1, 2015.

-----------

But his last outing he didn't land 2 quads, just 1. So it will be huge challenge for him to go for 3 quads.

With pack ice shows, commercials, events in summer 2014 after the Oly followed by back injury before Filandia, collision at CoC and top it off with surgery and ankle injury with only 3 weeks of training before Worlds and then followed by WTT. His health and training definitely took a toll which affected the quad and even required change in his programs layout in 2014-2015 season. But he put up a fight and won GPF, silver at Worlds and won the men event at WTT. We could not have asked for more from him.

Yuzu's goal is the OGM in 2018 thus he is executing his plans towards that by upping his tech content as well as other aspects. The 3 quads program is a challenge to all skaters not just Yuzu. For Yuzu he will have to make do with the body type (which has its advantages/disadvantages) and health/illness he is born with. For sure he will work hard as always to overcome these challenges to meet his goals.

Go Yuzuru :cheer:

I don't think he lacks core strength. He can't jump quads with such height and distance if he doesn't has core strength. I don't think his stamina is very weak either. His layout in the past three season had always been the most demanding layout in the men's field and he managed to execute his layout by the end of each season. I don't see other male skaters who look stronger than him attempting his layouts with much success. I think his stamina is on par with other male skaters.

His new FP layout is very demanding for any skater. But I think it's doable if he steadily improves his stamina over the season. I do think he has strong self-awareness of his own abilities. He wouldn't plan a layout that he believes he has no chance to execute it.

I wonder if his boyish look and small frame give people the impression that he is physically weak and fragile. He is much stronger than he looks. His look is very deceptive. If he has a lot of muscles like Javier and has a bigger build, would people worry about him attempting 3 quads?

Well, Yuzuru's the way he is. He's strong as he is and we can clearly see the muscle mass he has. It's really not that big and he's one of the most thin athletes. It's not like he has some muscles hidden somewhere so he's stronger than he looks :) It's just that his muscle mass is enough for him to execute his programs. He doesn't need Javier's built and physical strength. Same goes to more bulky and physically strong male skaters. We shouldn't forget the fact that it's still somewhat easier for him to jump quads cause he can rotate really fast thanks to his own built and body structure, adding the fact that he's also very light. He's also extremely flexible for a male skater, if he had a lot of muscles he would lose his flexibility. So maybe he will lose to these male skaters in contest on physical strength but in figure skating he will win, having a balance special to him. Imo, you shouldn't have a macho built for figure skating. Yuzu's explained his technical approach very well. He said he always strives to make his jumps less energy consuming and more natural.
Personally, I think he still lacks a little bit of stamina, because if you look at his close-to-ideal free skate in Barcelona, you can see that he got all the elements perfectly but fell on the last one because of fatigue. He was too tired. Even though prepared really well at the moment. I don't know though, I hope he's already stronger than before. I can't say ice shows are the indicator because he works insanely hard at shows and I dare to say twice as hard as other skaters there out of his special treatment of the audience there. I believe in him and his hard work, he should be fine with his new layout because he always works hard to achieve his goal.
Ps. Lol, when I reflected on Yuzu's physical strength I suddenly remembered him trying to pull Nam out of the crowd on Gala in Shanghai. I think it shows how strong the baby Nam has become
