2015 Finlandia Trophy Ladies SP and FS

...yes? Mao's obviously the better skater, but I like Rika's style more (posture notwithstanding). What can I say, the heart likes what it likes

I get it. There are some junior guys I like more than their respective country's top skaters (even if the teens are kinda awkward at times, they're still charming to me) ;)

Just watched the Lipnitskaya clip. Hmmm, music is playing and she is skating, but those two do not seem to connect with each other. In the choreography I can see no attempt to interpret the music.

So Youn has a lot of potential this season, I actually really like this sp for her. Please be consistent So Youn!

I also always love watching Joshi, she always looks like she is enjoying herself when she skates.

Rika didn't get an edge call!! I think we can safely say that Miyahara, Asada, and Hongo will be the worlds team. I know it's way too early to call but really, Murakami and Kato don't have anything on them...

Ladies rarely ever wear green! I feel like I've read somewhere it's supposedly "unlucky"?

Anyway, Joshi is painfully slow, but she's so much fun to watch! One of the few skaters who doesn't bother me when her hair is in a ponytail.

I remember seeing it on youtube some commentater saying green is an unlucky color for skaters and thus it was rarely worn. I think that is for the superstitious.

Okay, I might actually become a Rika fan this season. And I like Julia's SP, but Megapolis is still my favorite program of hers.

Happy 4 Joshi She always brings the energy!

& wow we really cant go a thread without bashin Adel:rofl: i really need her to come back & slay:agree:

That's mean. These skaters are giving it their all. Puberty affect everyone differently and some get it hit much worse and have far more changes. Remember that could be yoru daughter, sister or family member.
Yeah it's not easy to deal with puberty, your body change and all the technique you have been using now don't work. It's hard and especially at that age too.

I was today at Finlandia Trophy to see the Ladies SP. I went there with one of my daughters who is eight years old. My fourth time at Finlandia.

Finnish skaters seemed all more or less nervous. I missed somewhat Jenni Saarinen (who took a break during summer and will compete later in the autumn) and Ljubov Efimenko ( who was going to represent Poland but changed her mind, represents Finland again but it was too late to get to this competition). But now this is a great opportunity for Emmi and Anni as this is their first international senior competition. For Viveca it is also the first time at Finlandia. Viveca was best of them now but I really like Anni, too. There will be a real fight for the crown in Finnish Nationals in December. Yes, the winner there will receive the ice princess crown, challenge cup.

Tanja Odermatt, lovely performance.
Hannah Miller, nice and jumps seemed to go well
Juulia Turkkila, she did a balloon in the same place as in the practice just before skating.
Eliska Brezinova, it was terrible to see her falls, I could not even watch them through, the crowd was so supporting her.
Joshi Helgesson, first one who seemed to enjoy her performance.
Camilla Gjersem, energetic and lovely, nice to watch.
Lutricia Bock, I liked everything in her, her dress, music, skating, my daughter liked her a lot, too.
Julia Lipnitskaia, new hairstyle suits her well, her dress is very unique, the crowd welcomed her well. Happy to see her here.
Rika Hongo, the best this time.

What I did not like was the amount of music with vocals. It is difficult to skate to music with vocals and I find it often disturbing, is the skater really skating to the music? Some succeed better than others but overall I do not like it.

It is always nice to see live skating. Now I look forward to worlds 2017 at Helsinki and hope to go there.

I think the program has potential. It has the chance to really show her in a different light, rather than the somber programs she usually has. She can broaden her performance abilities by skating something different. The problem I had here was that she wasn't selling it. The dress is CRAZY. Can't decide yet if it's crazy-good or crazy-bad. Her hair was gorgeous though.

I don't mind the program. It's kind of fun and it's only a short program. It's been a long time since a ladies short program has really done it for me. But that dress! And those gloves! It reminds me of one of those cheap Halloween costumes. This may be a new low in tacky costuming.

Rika!! I'm very surprised the judges put her above Julia, but it was deserved IMO. That programs is just all kinds of amazing, and she has improved so much. Can't wait to see what this will look like at the end of the season!

I'm still happy Julia decided to try something new in the SP, but she still looks quite detached from the music. Hopefully that will change with more outings of the program... please have fun out there girl!

I think she put herself above Julia. Julia had a major mistake. Rika didn't.

Amazing comeback so far for Julia. She was on the verge of leaving and was very respectable here.

Agree the dress is a little much; I won't criticize her on the gloves because I'm pretty sure she wears gloves because she grabs her blades a lot for spins and moves and is protecting her hands. The program is good, hopefully now that she's done the first competition some jitters will go away and she can add some spunk to it, and I like that it was something really different from what she's done in the past.
