2015 Cup of China Ladies Short Program

Asadas SP is mehhh in terms of choreography and music choice. It's not a program that is worthy of breaking any WR if you take away the planned jump layout. I feel like some B-level American skater should be skating to this program. Mao's step sequence is FAB! She's so nimble on her feet.

Rika has one of my fave SPs this season.

Not surprised at the Russians bombing. And LOLing at everyone who were tripping over themselves to annoint Pogo as Russian #1 after the Modorvian Open. Pogo is as hot and cold as they come.

I always thought people asked coaches to smile, cause I thought to ?support your student (esp if your student is also trying his/her best to smile despite a bad skate?)

Lord knows about that. I just thought it was coach themselves telling that to their charge, to amp up some favorability from judges, from K&C.

The more I think about Zijun and Park Soyoun, I can't help thinking the irony and the foreshadowing of their I Dreamed a Dream program.

"Now Life has killed the dream I dreamed"

Not in this performance they weren't. The lutz edge was not good and she barely rotated the jump. The jump combo rotation was also a bit too lacking. Medvedeva deserved higher scores for her jump combo and solo jump in comparison.

3Axel from Mao was a good job but still tight on the landing.

Mao's program is underwhelming IMO. None of the spins really go with the music. Her movement isn't sultry enough. She finished a bit ahead of the music in this particular performance as well. I hope they rework the program.

It still deserves to be the highest scoring SP of the grand prix so far but I don't think it was significantly better than what we've seen.

To me you're being overly harsh, Her element placements is very much with the music,
She just could sell the whole think a bit more, Especially in the first minute.

I'll take the awesomeness of Boyang's Jumps and take Martinez's awesome Spins in sight today. :)

Forgot Martinez was gracing the ice with his spins. :cool2:

I'm not as emotionally invested with the men's today than I was last week or last last week, but yes! Michael's spins are really gorgeous, IMO one of the greatest spinners today. Oh, if only we could create a mix of their attributes to create a super-skater.

Spins from heaven and beautiful positions! I hope he's healthy today. :)

Does anyone else feel Rika was bit underscored on PCS compared to the Russian girls? Specifically on choreography, performance and interpretation. I might be a bit subjective since I LOVE Rika's SP.

I also feel that, especially with a clean program. She still got 2nd so I hope she holds on to that and her score motivates her to do even more. :)

I love rika's SP, and more so than last year! Here she really seems like a strong contender for a ntl champion!
Such energy and she really improved her expression! (though posture wise ah..)

Not really? I certainly would have scored some things differently I'm sure. Like I said before...I'd give Hannah Miller and Courtney the highest SS scores and Hannah would get the highest P/E which I highly doubt happened but I'm sure in an actual judging situation my scores would just be countered by someone else's opinion and change the average score. So...I'm not overly concerned with any scores here myself.

Actually...I found Rika a bit underwhelming in the components side tonight. Maybe I was expecting more because I liked her so much last year.

I think I know what Warwick is referring to, but I will keep my mouth shut or better put, my hands away from the letters on my keyboard ;) I am sending some positive vibes now :ghug:

What I like about Elena is how natural it looks, all her emotes, the movements of her arms, what she does with her eyes, it´s not like she is playing someone, but actually is that person.

There are not many skaters who are able to do this and I think as older she will become, as better this will be and she will profit from it greatly in future.
totally agree
She's very sincere & thats what buys the judges & the audience!
Btw imo this time she is better with her arms & as a whole no matter how I liked her before she was indeed a bit frantic
but now she looks so grown up & I feel like her performance became way more balanced & mature! + that dress compliments her vey much! :luv17:

I can a bit compare my feeling the same as for Polina E this year. I couldnt believe how mature she looked this season (cnsidering I disliked her completely last season)

Can you imagine being at the CSKA rink when Lena and Adelina do multiple run throughs of their programs. Oh the incessant crooning that must befall everyone there :scard7:

Does anyone know how to delete messages here? Been searching top and bottom for options. :otopic:

You're right but I was talking about their jumps in general. Evgenia's jumps gain high GOEs because of the tanos and she manages to rotate them, but the jumps themselves do not look good.

Her solo 3Loop in the SP at Skate America definitely looked good to me, with no tano in sight. The jump combo was not as good, got tilted in the air and she barely rotates the second jump, pre-rotating it a very "generous" amount. 2Axel could also be bigger.

She'll probably be another Lipnitskaia but we have to take them as they last.

I know enough Russian to know that the Russian broadcasters of Mao's performance had a more positive evaluation of Mao's performance than the tech crew in regards to most of her jumps. http://fsnews.ru/forums-m-posts-id-19253.html

That's why I'm glad the judges don't have to give -3 GOE on edge calls. Only one judge gave her a -3 on her 3Lze and his/her score was tossed!! Take that tech panel. I can't wait until they feel emboldened enough to award positive GOE for edge calls that are otherwise great jumps.

Well I have to say I like Rika's SP more than Mao's. :scard7:

(I secretly do too. Like I really enjoyed Rika's performance, such i dare say passionate skate!

I was so scared and on edge for Mao's.... but she did good, her nuances was much better than some tango SP's she had. And also judging how she came back after a break it would be scary. Like I didnt really enjoy Yuna's performances when she came back in 2013, but after rewatching... yea the enjoyment does come back!

Probably would enjoy Mao's SP better after a few days)

Okay, I'm here. I need videos, which I will watch when I'm not in school.

Mao and Rika sounded awesome, but everyone else... :slink:

(Is Lena okay? I heard that she's ill and so was her coach...)
