Russia Doping Report

Actually you couldn't be more wrong.

The Guardian is one of the most respected and credible broadsheets in the UK along the side of The Times, the Telegraph, and Independent. It is hardly the Dailymail or News of the world. Its views are general of liberal stance, pride itself on well researched balanced independent views and groundbreaking legit news rather than one of sensationalism, or serving as some sort political mouthpiece, which even the BBC falls into that trap at times. If I am a maverick journalist, that is the paper I want to work for, then the Telegraph.

I suspect the reason there aren't facts published is because everything is currently going through a criminal investigation as well decisions are still to be made. Do you call BBC sensationalism? It is the current headline on BBC News.

I have to put a +1 for The Guardian as well. Their presence isn't only in the UK either -- they have a crackerjack team working in NYC and DC as part of their Guardian US team.

The New York Times has a really nice story, along with graphics here: http://www.nytimes.com/2015/11/10/s...onsored-doping-program-report-finds.html?_r=0

Well if you guys are going to endorse the guardian then I'm willing to give them a second chance. TBH I'm weary of a lot of news stories I read from most sources. I did however post a link to the guardian here last week about the first girl to complete a marathon in Afghanistan.

I find this whole story unsettling from multiple dimensions and wonder why if they admit that this isn't a one nation problem they went after just one. Seems to me a better message to send would be one that addresses the issue within the sport as a whole to avoid odtrisizing one nation and admittedly turning a blind eye to others. There is something to be said for consistency and fairness in that regard.

That PDF document is overwhelming and reminds me of when I would sift thru senate bills to find hidden gems amongst a mountain of useless info.

For a third time- this is a short term report because there were allegations made specifically about Russian athletics, in large part by Russians, in a TV programme. They had to investigate to see if what was said is true. Already it is expanding by confirmed reports that the former President of IAAF is under investigation.

They are not turning a blind eye. This is only the beginning. A criminal investigation looking at IAAF is ongoing. Interpol are now involved!

No. The investigation concerns Russian track and field athletes from the London summer Olympics.

^^^^This. Completely the Summer Games. There is a thread in LeCafe, as well.

Under Rodchenkov's leadership, "many tests that the laboratory has conducted should be considered highly suspect."

The Moscow lab oversaw testing for the 2014 Sochi Olympics and is due to work on FIFA's anti-doping program for the 2018 World Cup.

They say lab for sochi was totally illegitimate for Russian athletes

I think they can only revoke medals if there is concrete proof that an athlete did something wrong, right ?

This is not about individual athletes but a country destroying anti doping systems to benefit all its athletes in every sport doping or not!

I found the title of the thread troubling since it implies that Adeline doped and it is a matter of finding it out. If we assume she did not dope, the whole investigation thing wouldn't matter to her at all. Adelina is not the only Russian figure skater who medaled either. She had a controversial win at Sochi, but to pick on that again and again is not right.

I am not talking about her controversial win and say all russian fiure skating medalist will likely lose their medals because Russia had no anti doping system for any Russian athletes.

They may be guilty in this insistence, (considering the fact its track and field where every power house in the sport has been caught at some point I'm willing to believe it) but until proven otherwise it doesn't mean squat in other sports like skating. But I have no doubt some will bring it up the next time a Russian stands on top of the skating podium anyway :scowl:

gmyers does make a very good point. This has less to do with any individual skater knowingly or unknowingly taking drugs, and more about the Russian Lab and "Urine donation program" . Though it may not seem fair to us if Adeline had her medal stripped, fairness ain't got nothin' to do with this. This is the rule of law. And as most police officers know, the law has little to do with justice. ABC news reported tonight (IIRC which is a big if) that Sochi results could be affected and there was at least one American who stood to gain....

If there ARE smoking guns all over the floor, however, remember what happened at Salt Lake and the Pairs Gold medal.....

I predict that if there are a bushel basket full of smoking guns, there will be sanctions for the future...I would be shocked if Adeline lost HER medal.....I wouldnt want to be a track and field Russian Gold medalist, however....

Direct threats to doping control officers, as well to their family members; the alleged destruction of more than 1,400 samples rather than show them to the WADA inspectors, and the existence of a second, “secret” laboratory in Moscow where undercover tests were carried out.

Russians are so scary. :disapp:

I think its quite a generalization to say "Russians are so scary." I have Russian friends, and my coach is Russian and the only time she is scary is when she is trying to get me to work on the axel (and thats because I trip on my feet and fall on my face, she is actually quite nice about it)... To say that the governing sports bodies in Russia did some seedy things and need to be investigated and appropriate consequences to be had is true, but its a pretty large jump from that to generalizing all Russians and Russian athletes.

I'm surprised this came up now. IIRC, there was an article before Sochi saying Russians were using Xenon gas which somehow faded away........
