2015-16 State of U.S. Men's Figure Skating

Dare I say it, Ross' SP is my favorite of all the US Men so far this year, and why?

Great music from my youth  expertly cut. Beautiful transitions, movements timed to the steps. That 3A soaring over half the rink.

And *no* quad attempt to ruin the mood.

Now ditch that rotation with the butt spin Ross :biggrin:and this will be perfect!

El Henry, What is a butt spin?? I read that somewhere else in this thread. When does Ross do a butt spin in his SP so that I can see what you mean.

I think it's called an A-Spin or the Uranus spin. It is when the skater bends over and holds one leg with their rear up in the air. It's called an A-Spin because the way the hunch I've and gab one leg makes it look like an A.

OK, Now I know what you're talking about. Ross should have called my man EMAN for advice on how to do a good butt spin. From his Back to the apple SP. Watch his final combo spin.....https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gOSV7VdHEQs

:p
Yes, Sam described it well. I *hate* butt spins. My impression is that quadmeisters with no flexibility use the butt spin because they can't spin. Ross is no Jason (who is, when it comes to spins?), but he is a decent spinner, so he doesn't need it.

And so here's my stupid question, for those who were watching before 2014, when I was not. Has *Jason* ever resorted to a butt spin?:slink:

Not always true. Brooklee does a butt spin, and the last thing anyone could ever call her is an inflexible quadmeister!

I don't believe Jason has ever used the buttspin position, nor has Joshua. Max uses it a lot but he does it fairly well - though even with the, er, view it presents us with it's never an attractive position.

Thx, I actually wasn't thinking of Max when I wrote quadmeisters, and I can forgive him (almost) the butt spins. ;) I wish Max's spins were as good as the other elements of his program, but then again, I wish Jason's jumps were as good as the other elements of his programs. We know they are both working on it.:)

And Max's spins are getting much better, as are Jason's jumps. Hopefully, I will see both in Boston.

Sad about Jason's NHK withdrawal :sad21: but glad they're taking even a minor strain seriously.

Congratulations to Ross on his well-deserved medal at Rostelecom Cup!!!! So pleased for him!

So, need to give a shoutout to Vincent Zhou, who won the senior men comp at Midwestern Sectionals with a fab free skate that included a quad salchow and two 3As (and two 3-3 combinations in the second half!). I believe this is the first time he attempted his 3A them in competition.

87+ TES.

As I mentioned in the Midwestern Sectionals thread, this explains why he participated even though he had a bye through JGPF. Now he's tried 3As in competition, he is set to go for JGPF! Yay. :)

Also coming up an update to my stats...some interesting shakeups!! :)

Ohhh noooo. Sorry to hear about Jason's withdrawal from NHK. At least in my memory that's the first real injury he's had since he's been "on the scene!" I wish him a speedy recovery.

I think you can tell Vincent is intent not to let Nathan take *all* the "up and coming young American man" glory this season [emoji14]

Lest we forget...the last time Nathan and Vincent faced off head to head in competition (2013 nationals, junior level), Vincent came out on top!!

I've never heard it being called Uranus spin. Anyone know why this is because it sounds like a kind of... unfortunate name for this position. (Sorry!)

Unless this counts as a buttspin, from his 2011 FS
