2015-16 Grand Prix Final Ladies Free Skate

So proud of Ashley. She showed that she is totally in the mix with the Russian jumping beans and Satoko! Only one underrotation on the 3salchow in the free skate. I hope she takes this skate (and the huge score she received) as a confidence builder. Judges are clearly willing to reward her if she delivers!

Crazy how close Ashley was to winning her 4th GPF medal in a row - if she had settled for a nice 3loop-2toe combination instead of falling on that no prayer in hell (and downgraded) 3loop-3toe combination, she would be on the podium.

Ashley just has to work on her nerves for that SP - she's a total contender! Never count her out!

So somehow, Radionova with a fall, dumb dialogue, and almost no romantic feeling whatsoever to portray Titanic received higher PCS scores than Mao Asada and Satoko Miyahara.

Somehow, Satoko didnt get dinged for any of her pre-rotations =)
Judges are on crack today, dont worry =D

I had a feeling Asada would pull a Patrick Chan, but I thought it'd be in the SP.

*shake head* I cannot believe one of the best ever female skaters can't hold off skaters a decade younger with half the experience.

Congrats on the winners! Well-deserved especially for Satoko who made me smile today! :)

PCS will always be confusing. If everyone's getting high PCS then so be it but I think Satoko deserves more than 67. Despite the jumps, her skating alone is lovely and certainly more refined than some skaters. I'm sorry to Evgenia but that's not even close to Yuna's Les Mis or Adios at least. The quality of her skating is not on the high 70+ yet. Technically, she's wonderful and a very very talented jumper but PCS wise, not yet at least IMO.

Edit: ^also true with Ashley's 72 PCS.

Yep, all of Miyahara's jumps should have been called > and her TES should have been lucky to crack 60.

Is it because the tech panel aren't allowed to slo-mo the take off and only the landing? or so I've heard, correct me if I'm wrong. I mean, she rotates so fast, its really hard to tel without slo-mo and tech panel/judges are supposed to give the benefit of the doubt?

Mao got credit for an outside edge on her Lutz :) Small victories :cheer:

Ashley was the most brightest star of the night to me. It is a pity she was not on the podium unlike the last year.

It's anchoring... You don't see 6.0 for SS 9.5 for interpretion, they pull each other down but the ratios should still be accurate amongst the different categories.

I think that Medvedeva's ahead of all other "juniors" in SS actually, and her transitions are also the best by far. It also is clear that her SS have actually improved significantly since her first grand prix, which is very impressive for such a short period of time.

If that's the case, what's the point of having FIVE separate categories for PCS? Isn't the point to give skaters points on what they do best on the ice? Also, I'm not just talking about Medvedeva. I don't for the live of me get how Ashley got higher SS than someone like Satoko.

Overall, it was a strong event. Gracie is like Adelina's replica in term of mental toughness:noshake:

No problems with the PCS here, at least relative to one another. Ashley and Evgenia got high PCS as a "clean skate bonus." Gracie and Mao had low PCS because their programs were riddled with mistakes so the performance wasn't there, though everyone knows that a clean Gracie or clean Mao would deserve the highest PCS. Satoko was "lowballed" on PCS because no one calls her URs, and Elena's PCS were in the middle. Makes sense to me.

Going to console myself about Elena and Gracie with the fact that it's good they aren't peaking now so they can peak later!

My predictions:

Ashley will skate well with maximally 2 URs and will move to fourth at least. Gracie will have a solid skate, with some twofoots and stepouts but no falls. Satoko will receive UR calls amd fall once, not moving up. Mao will be betrayed by her Flips and Luzt again and won't finish on podium. Elena will have troubles with her combinations again, should finish on podium easily. Zhenya will have some 2A hiccup again, but will receive a record breaking score, at least almost.

Damm, I'm good at this! Ashley had great skate and I'm sad she didn't finished third. Gracie no way had solid skate, but stepouts and twofoots were there. Totally wrong about Satoko, panel was benevolent, but happy for her. Poor Mao. Elena wasn't expected to fall but she had cushion from SP. Evgenia had fine 2As and had a big score, although I wouldn't give that much.

I should start predicting from the crystal ball!

Ok, well thank god the judges weren't on enough crack to give Evgenia a WR. I am going to say that I think Evgenia deserved said score and I think she has better PCS (other than SS) than Adelina had at Sochi. I think Evgenia has better jumps, and unlike Yulia, rather big jumps. She has good height on her jumps and I think she will be around for the next few years, definitely. She also has a lot of unique parts of her skating that sets her apart from other top skaters. Congrats to her on her back-to-back JGPF/GPF wins. Something last accomplished by Yuna Kim.

She is the most like Yuna skater I have seen. Same grace, elegance, sophistication and artistry on the ice. Just a HUGE TALENT.

Personal thoughts:

Evgenia: Absolutely well-deserved victory. But I still need some time to convince myself on her PCS score, and I probably will never succeed.

Satoko: TO be very honest I am happier about Satoko getting the silver than Evgenia winning lol. And her LP score is a huge encouragement to her and she is so excited about it when she saw it!!!!! Bravissima!!!!

Elena: Despite the fall, it was a great program. That's all I can say.

Ashley: YES! YES! YES! That's how you comeback and tell the world you are a DIVA!!! SO glad that she gets a high score and I am happy that she is happy!

Gracie: Probably too nervous? Cuz I actually kinda like this program and I think fits her quite well. I look forward to its fullest form!

I will write about Mao in another post.

Proud with you my favourite Elena  She did emotional program today ... Great fighting and she won the bronze YESSS :thank::thank:
