2016 Europeans Ladies Free Skate

This thread is quickly starting to mirror Ashley's bitter comments about getting beaten by sonograms :hslap:

The older girls should be winning and beating the younger girls. If they can't that's their fault, don't take it out on the younger girls.

Omg, I need to get out of this thread ASAP. The sonogram comment was very clearly intended to be lighthearted, the fact it gets continually gets brought up makes me want to bang my head against a wall. Some people take things so personally it's as if the skaters were their own children. I highly doubt most of the skaters are as negative about their fellow competitors as people on this board are. I think sometimes we all need to remember at the end of the day it's just sports and most of us are just fans.

Not body type. Stage of development. If she's petite 20 yo - Myahara - and is the best then fine. If she is 16 with high muscle to fat ratio and low bone densiy becasue of a transitory stage of development then her Federation is just exploiting this to win medels. Nothing to do with the devlopment of the sport.

Miyahara is a different scenario, she is politicked by her Fed as the no.1 skater from her country
but she in fact does underrotate and has small jumps that are questionable.

I don't understand why people keep bringing up the fact the Russian girls are young, that the leader changes every season because the other starts growing and then disappears
1) Tuktamysheva won almost everything last season. She was 17-18 years old and post-puberty.
2) Radionova seems to be able to deal with puberty.
3) Medvedeva's body does seem to have gone through some changes from last year already and she seems only getting better. She is 16 now.
4) Miyahara is 17, but nobody seems to be mentioning that neither last year nor now...
...

No, she is 17. But I've never seen anyone bash her for her age or size (just her jumps, which is a fair criticism). Only the Russians.

I mean I really love Elena. But Satoko's lines, posture, skating skills are miles ahead of her. There really is no comparison. Satoko does get bashed for her tininess esp in jumps though

I started rooting harder for the sonograms after she made that comment. :) If it was intended to be lighthearted and so many people misinterpreted it, maybe Ashley needs to work on her delivery (among other things).

There was actually a commentator (I think on B.ESP) who complained about the size of Satoko's boots/feet.... and people often complained about how tiny Satoko is and how that affects her skating. That doesn't make complaints about anybodys looks better - because it's always wrong - but it did happen to Satoko too.

The reason is that Sochi was notoriously over scored, they wouldn't have had same scores otherwise - Medvedeva would score higher.

You would put this LP from Evgenia over Mao's Sochi LP, both happening in the same event and all?

I made a mistake on Myahara's age but you didn't address the point.

This point? I honestly don't even know what to say about that "point". I don't think that having a high muscle to fat ratio means that you're being exploited by your federation and again, I don't think that muscle to fat ratio should have ANY relevance for scoring.

because they are. notice only now how her scores increased and she isnt called for URs ?
Mao isnt in great form, so Satoko is politicked as No.1 Japanese lady.

I think sometimes we all need to remember at the end of the day it's just sports and most of us are just fans.

Sports fans are a rowdy bunch. They get into shouting matches with each other, start fist-fights, and even riot in the streets over results. Fans of this particular sport have a lot of catching up to do! :dance2:

Lena can easily skate to that music. It's not like presentation is her weakness lol. She just needs better choreography, and ffs please no more voiceovers.
No she can't. Presentation is exactly Radio's weakness. Why blame on the programs? Morozov choreographed for both Pogo and Radio - Pogo is mature and sexy while Radio is juniorish and cheesy. Averbukh choreographed for both Evgenia and Radio - Evgenia is beautiful and elegant while Radio was juniorish and boring. So the problem is not choreography but the skater - Radio just cannot perform her programs well, no matter who is the choreographer.

Well that was meant as a joke but I'm pretty sure that the judges would considering the PCS Asada gets.

This is quite a harsh statement but it's in my opinion true that Radionova has a much more juniorish take on her presentation than Medvedeva. Will need to see her with good programs that can be taken seriously for final judgement, however.

Anna's choreo is okay but the music cuts for her FS ughity ugh. I love her SP, though.

Yes, the judges might currently. Which IMO wouldn't make it right.
My stepmom who's an older former "ice dancer"(not exactly at a high level but she skated a lot) thinks that Mao's skating and artistry are much higher than the russian ladies' for what it's worth.

I think the problem is that the PCS is always somehow magically connected to the TES. Example in this competiton: Giada Russo. Great skater, great program, great performance despite the poor jumps. The PCS was better than average (about 5th or 6th highest) but in no way connected to what she really did. Then we have the antithesis when you take a messed up program like Kovtun's yesterday which magically gets very high PCS. Only because of the tech he's capable of maybe? Weird stuff. So I think the PCS is a mix between the PCS the skater should get and the TES he/she is capable of getting. Then you have it. But it's not right. That development started at Europeans in 2014.
But in the end I think that the ranking in this event is about right. You could switch 3rd and 4th, but I don't have a real problem with the outcome because Anna had those two great combos and she kept the performance level up. And I would put Russo higher because of the fact that she's trying to push the artistic side, that should be rewarded in my opinion.

And it's all gets quite a bit over the top! I'm a huge sports fan (particularly soccer which is known for out of control antics), but I was also a high level athlete (in a team sport rather than an individual one). I think that makes one view things through a different lens. At the end of the day sports should be fun!

But Averbukh has choreographed for Radio for the past four programs in the last couple years. Radio never performed the programs the way Evgenia is performing her FS this season, and Evgenia is only skating to Averbukh's program the first time. I think the programs Averbukh gave Radio are pretty good, at least the same level of program he gave Evgenia. But the presentation of Evgenia is so much better than Radio.

I also don't think Morozov is intentionally giving Anna better programs than he gives Radio, esp. because Radio is the reigning world bronze medalist and Anna is not even guaranteed to go to worlds. Again I think the diffrence is because Anna's presentation is better than Radio.
