2016 Europeans Ladies Free Skate

Not when you love the sport. The best competitor is the person getting the most points in a man-made point system. Change the system, change the winner.

So the system should be changed because a "fan who loves the sport" is unhappy with the winner?

What's the consensus here, do we think Evgenia will keep her jumps when she has her growth spurt and manage to adapt like an Elena is doing right now or will she be more of a Yulia? (that being said I do think Yulia has good chances to come back and fix her pbs with her new coach).
I perso think she risks to struggle a lot like Yulia bc her technique is scary.

^Imagine Radianova skating to Evegnia's music and that'll show you why Evegnia interpreted her program very well.

LOL.

Ashley Wagner in Russia would be exactly an Alena Leonova and not so much more. She never won GPF, and never been on the podium at Worlds. Also first years at seniors were so bad for her, and after ten years she hasn't got so many medals.

Almost all these "new" russian ladies are already better than these skaters.

If Evgenia keeps her technique through the whole process of body changing, she will stay on top for many years.

Hey! Alena did won silver at Worlds once! So that actually is a compliement for Ashley :p

Not really a fair comparison, while Ashley is inconsistent Leonova isn't even really competitive at sr B comps, but I really fail to see the relevance of the talk of Ashley over the last couple pages, as last time I checked Ashley wasn't European or skating at this event.

I'm pretty neutral on Evgenia, but it seems that Eteri's students don't have the bet technique to begin with, which makes getting through puberty with their jumps particularly difficult.

I liked both Elena and Evgenia today. Evgenia had a fall but her other jumps were really good and she tanod almost every jump... Elena fought for her jumps and landed them but not all of them were good landings. Nevertheless I am happy that Elena still manages these difficult 3-3-combinations while she is growing very fast. Many other young ladies couldn't do 3-3 when they grow. So I hope that she will be better next season and win (after 2 2nd places)

Oh I just realized that Elena had the highest basic value ...

I don't think she is anything like Yulia, mentally or physically. It's possible there will be a rough patch, but I'm sure she will adapt...and so can Yulia, if she puts in the work. All of these girls are extremely tough and competitive, so I would never write off any of them too soon.

How do we know if Wagner is competitive at Sr B's? When was the last time she did one? She hasn't even done 4CC in 4 years.

Scores went a little crazy, but whatever. Euros is such a weak field overall that yeah, Evgenia is a 10 in comparison to the rest of the competition. My only disappointment is that nothing unexpected happened in the results. Predictable competitions/podiums just aren't as fun to watch, IMO.

And why is this suddenly the Ashley Wagner hate thread? She has a lot of GP circuit medals. She beat the reigning World Champion at Skate Canada this year. Just because she's never been dominant, she manages to compete among the best year after year and continue improving. She might not be the most consistent skater, but she's had a consistent career. She's only placed outside the top 6 at Worlds one time, and has gone to the GP final 4 times, medaling at 3 of them.

Yulia has more mental problems than physical: she loose confidence whenever a jump is missed.

The ISU and figure skating should care. If Evgenia is a serious athlete she should care. Grab a bunch of hardware for a year or so and then disappear for the 15-16 year old is, I am guessing, not a good feeling to someone who is serious about their sport. Yulia has some serious hardware and has spent the last two seasons seemly miserable struggling to get back on track after body changes.

Say what you want about Ashley and how long she has been around and how much better Evgenia hardware might be, Ashley has lasted, which is more than can be said about a lot of girls who are out there for a hot second only for the next babe to come along. It is actually a little sad for ladies figure skating.

That being said, good luck to all these young ladies.

If you've been around the sport a long time you recognize beautiful body lines, athletic jumps and interpretive depth. This takes years of work and seasoned fans know it. I don't know what has happened to the judging that accomplished skaterrs are being pushed aside by the latest twirling 15 yo. If the judging system can't capture this difference then it's hurting not helping the sport. I would watch Josi Heggleson or Ashley Wagner any day over Rad or that new Russian junior the British boys ae pushing - what's her name? I hope the career skaters will stay in it. Sensibility will come back!

Semantics, would it help if I added "much less GP events" after SR Bs. The point remains the same Alena (who I like) is no longer competitive internationally, Ashley (like her or not) is.

If bringing up Ashley was a plot to get people to bash her and layoff Medvedeva, it was brilliant :applause:.

I don't know, she obviously has mental issues as well, but she's gone through some pretty significant physical changes that have undeniably impacted her negatively. That's not to say she can't overhaul her technique and be successful again though, it's happened before.

Joshi is your example of beautiful body lines and interpretive depth? Ok... (I like her, she's fun, but...)

Please tell me there was no shooting, please?

He said he'd also shoot the judge who gave 10 for IN...

But anyway, if she'd get 148 normally, 142 even feels a bit harsh.

Modeling is pretty different from figure skating. But Joshi, seriously? Well feel free but please don't pretend she deserves to actually win anything like this.
