Patrick Chan

we will get to 1000 :) but i will have to be more creative... i can't always just swoon over his photos ;)

regarding the ice... yup... exactly.. he is not making excuses, just stating a fact.. these ice conditions are not good for him. they will be perfect in Boston ;)
Another comment from Patrick about the ice in this article. He explains why the ice is so important to him.

He'll have to somehow work with that non-communicative ice for just one more performance. :bang:

Yes, thanks to all! Maybe we can keep it going until 1,000 pages!
and here we go 301

Thank you, Interspectator!

Here's the full quote from Patrick, when asked how his skate went:

"Ah, good. You know what, I'm happy with the skate... it was... the whole week, the ice has been terrible. I'm not very comfortable; the way I skate, I like to skate as one with the ice, and here it's like, the ice can do one thing and I'm doing the other, like, there's no control, I don't have balance... I feel off-balance every day because the ice is different every day. It's very frustrating for me and... but, the skate was good for, considering the situation, and some of the conditions, and I'm happy, and at this point in my career, I'm happy, and you know what, at this point in my career it's not about placement; I've won Four Continents before so I'm just happy to be in the last group again."

When asked about his LP, he said this about the ice:

"Again, with the ice it's unpredictable; I can't... I feel like I have never skated before sometimes, and I step on the ice and every time I step on it it's different so... but, I will think about the good things I did today, because it allowed me to stay on my feet."

Wow, how incredibly frustrating it must be for Patrick! I wonder how the other skaters cope with the ice? In either case I'm sure Patrick will be grateful to step back on the ice in North America again!

My knowledge about figure skating is very limited but I know skaters are started training at their very young age. They spend a lot of time, hard work, tears and sweat in training, plus the financials and supports from their families to pursue their dreams and goals. I respect all of them and thanks them for their performances that we enjoy watching.

People entitle to express their opinions in forums but I wish they stop post those negative comments, trolling or twist 'words" "texts" to suit their own interpretation in their posts. Please be kind to all skaters.

Patrick is a wonderful skater, I wish him good luck, do well and master the ice for his FS at 4CC in Taipei, most important is to enjoy his skating and enjoys the process.

4EVERCHAN, how about set our goal to 3000 pages instead of 1000?
:agree: EXACTLY!!! Someone in the competition thread (which I skimmed a few pages of this morning but have no time or desire to go back to) said something like, "Stop the excuses, Patrick, the ice was bad for everyone, others didn't have problems." First of all, Patrick's way of skating is super dependent on deep edges and turns and blade work and flow, so when the ice is different and he can't do that as well as usual, he's going to notice it a lot. Nobody else skates exactly like Patrick, so I think it IS different for him than for others. Every skater experiences these types of things differently due to various factors. Second of all, elite figure skaters should know about good ice since they train and compete on ice year-round for many years. Patrick knows what feels best for him out on the ice and this was not it. Plus, it's something Patrick said only to Kathy in the K&C, which we were able to overhear, (AFAIK) so it's not as if he went to the media and threw a fit about the ice. In the same post, the person said that Patrick needs to get a jump coach or he'll be buried in the standings. :slink:

Sorry, I just had to get that out. Sending good thoughts to Patrick and the ice for the LP. :ghug:

As a skating fan, I'm grateful to be able to learn something more about figure skating due to Patrick's honesty in sharing his experiences. For those compulsively assigning negative motives to his words, they are only hurting themselves with mind toxins.

I think Patrick is making good progress. He has the inconsistent ice conditions to deal with, and by his own admission, he's happy with what he did. It's not his own mind and various issues attached to his competition performance that haunt him. He is back on track and the extrinsic factor of ice conditions won't be there at other competitions, not likely at Worlds in Boston. It only adds to his learning experiences.

What you resist, persists. Jesus said to love thy enemy, which is actually a great tactic, because when you love your enemy, then they are no more your enemy. For Patrick,I suggest: love thy nemeses. Take the 3A as a good buddy instead of a bad girlfriend, and love the ice you are on. Be one with it anyway. I will be here supporting him in that vein.

Here are some positive comments about Patrick on Instagram. Patrick talks more about how he feels about the ice in this video clip:

And this fan was interviewed by a Taiwanese reporter! He had the opportunity to tell him why he liked Patrick so much!

He said the skater he likes the most is still Patrick, and watching him compete is very pleasurable; he likes Patrick a lot.

And these people managed to take pictures with Patrick in the background!

Thank you, m0001. And here are some amusing tweets from the Japanese fans with their translations. Make of it what you will:

Nice pics of Patrick, along with "Wasn't the picture of Patrick, I was looking for employment until retirement age workers life has become like"

Cute GIF of Patrick petting a teddy bear, a few years ago:

Pic of Patrick flexing his arms, along with "Again, the icon will Patric Chan I'm wondering."

Nice photo of Patrick on the ice, along with this tweet: "I was the all the players in top players, playing point 😃✨ jump 😣 was what was really nice. He's skating. It is pleasant!"

This person said: "Patrick CHAN, skating is really great. Anyway good at skating, beautiful. And higher weight but not in the success of the jump in. Because I think it's important there's beauty. So I think if it's absolute top players."

This person included a photo of the arena and said: "Taipei arena full of Japanese people! It's yesterday. And Patrick Chan was too handsome! "

This fan said: "Patrick CHAN also supports. That smooth performance is very attractive! A fifth was last night, but I want aim tomorrow top!"

GIF of Patrick at the end of his SP. I think this fan was saying that his profile, hidden behind Kathy's head, looked great. "He took yesterday finished at Cassie's head and nearly hiding better bamboo which was and is beautiful profile reflects"

I'm guessing this fan's mom thought Patrick's clothes were for the older generation. "Watching yesterday's skate, but Patrick CHAN of's Dad's clothes holiday's I woke my mother said"

That's it for now! Looking forward to the free skate and hoping the ice cooperates with Patrick this time.

Here are some positive comments about Patrick on Instagram. Patrick talks more about his nervousness stepping on the ice in this video clip:

https://www.instagram.com/p/BB-XoA_Syrc/

He said he was very nervous going into his jumps, a little different from being generally nervous just stepping on the ice.

This is a fan from South Korea coming to cheer on the Korean skaters but he likes Patrick the most.

The ice is inconsistent and different every time. So there is a possibility of it being extremely friendly to Patrick for the LP. :) A friend with multiple personalities is a challenge for sure.

Sure, but he also said he felt like he had never skated before, and "everything's a little tighter and rushed because I don't know what's going to happen... every time I step on an edge, it's... I don't know if I'm gonna slip... or catch an edge..."

Yes, and since Patrick is skating in the middle of the afternoon, when it's warmest, I hope conditions will be better for him.

Thanks, Interspectator and vivley, for bringing over some of Patrick’s comments about the ice. He’s frustrated but positive. Good.

I think you’re right, which makes me very excited for Worlds!

:luv17: this post!

btw... did you guys notice we reached the 300th page in this thread ;)

let's tell patrick 300 times how much we believe in him !
Yes, I did notice that. Then I wondered, “What if the number of GS Fan Fest pages could equal the maximum points possible for a skater in competition?" In that case, it’s a sign that Patrick will break 300 at Worlds! ;) But by that logic, Yuzu would have broken 2,000 points in competition by now! :laugh2: I’ve never gone into Yuzu’s Fan Fest, but they must have A LOT to discuss in there. V&M, for example, have a mere 26 pages.

May peace and confidence be with Patrick.

And may he and the ice have a friendly relationship. :)

He will be the last to skate, may the other skaters soften the ice for him.

WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW!! I am blown away! Go CHANpion and conqueror of the bad ice! You exceeded our expectations!

Woohoo! :cheer:

Patrick will now be in the local media, and I hope this makes him well-known in Asia and increases the number of his fans!

Group hug, everybody!

What a sublime FS from Patrick at 4CC! And what a confidence booster before heading into Worlds. I'm glad he pulled it all together. After watching Patrick skate twice in person, he truly is amazing!

I need to say congrats to all Patrick's fans. He is back and it worth celebrating. He was breathtaking. Congrats to him and to you guys :).
