Patrick Chan

Attaboy. You will be back playing piano at no time. Whatever pill you're taking, take the least you can.

Ain't know no blue pills, black pills, white pills....... Other than my metaphysical violet pill, I've not touched any evil phama product in almost two decades and hardly any before, except for dental injections. Didn't even take the antibiotics and pain pills for the dental surgeries. I'm healthier than anybody I know, with only a couple of cases of flu this season in about 15 years, which is discouraging enough for me!

I manage my health so I don't need to manage any illness. I don't understand why most people choose otherwise.

Enjoy whatever you could during your recovery, 4everchan. Focus on fun, joy, bliss and gratitude instead of pain, suffering, or feeling impatient or sorry for yourself. So far you've been very productive, what with all the music selection and comments you manage to type out with one hand. :2thumbs: I think I understand a major reason you appreciate Patrick's skating so much, being such a musical purist.
hehe dearest VB we have something in common... pills are metaphorical for us... ;) well most of the time. I don't like the effects they have on me, but after anesthesia, I wouldn't recommend anyone to not take a pill before going to bed.... because waking up in the middle of the night with the feeling that someone sledgehammered your arm is not fun, trust me ;)

I did most of the music research when I had two hands but I do have exceptional power as a one handed human ;) i'm already back to two hands now :)

thank you for the wishes VB, right now, i am enjoying the extreme comfort of my couch and looking out to a sunny afternoon... without having to think about what else I should be doing instead. Sometimes, a forced break is welcome when one is always very busy ;)

regarding Patrick : yes... i think that I love his skating so much because it is closest to what I do as a musician, in terms of search for refined beauty, expressing emotion globally and entirely from a deeper place, and exquisite simplicity and of course, integrity. I think that Patrick skates like that, and that's how I tend to like my music. (when I play or listen... not every musician abides by these rules... some like showmanship best... i.e. Lang Lang is one example HEHEHE) That's also why I am picky with selecting music for him I am a bit selfish here but I want something that I would listen to, without Patrick in mind... just because it's gorgeous music...not fake or easy... so adding Patrick to it, and then I'd be thrilled :) but, i know Patrick have fans would would prefer him to do other things and i respect that :)

today's solo piano music for patrick : schubert's impromptu in g flat performed by one of the most patrick like pianists :) murray perahia : pure beauty

I don't want to feel he will win worlds and get disappointed like Olympics. :(

Welcome, TatiMax. He may not win Worlds, but I believe Patrick will skate his very best and show everyone what true, top-notch quality skating looks like. At least three times this season various TV commentators have conceded that although his program was not as technically difficult as some others, the quality in everything he did was undeniable.

thanks m0001 and vivley

and here something that might please us all as a patrick lp

it has the british music (some people mentioned RVW)
it has the choir high notes for vivley
it has just the right amount of cheese for me :)

elgar nimrod in choral version

here is another version

something very few could skate well to -wagner, liebestod

but let's end with something more uplifting for a patrick EX :) or if he's brave, a SP lol

Thanks for all the song selections, 4everchan. I can see Patrick skating to Black-Eyed Peas, lol. I hope you had a healing weekend!

:) hope you enjoyed the music. i have had a very healing weekend and now I am taking a very healing week off from work ;)

4 days... no Patrick love... OMG we have been bad :(

I have a dream... Brahms Symphony #4 Lots of cuts would be needed ... of course the whole work is gorgeous but I am thinking of the 1st movement only... I am just imagining Patrick glide on the opening notes, turning on deep edges... and as it builds up he'd bring up quad galore ;)

then lots of skipping forward to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6yy3eQwu63A&t=8m46s gorgeous lyrical moment

then final intense moment https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6yy3eQwu63A&t=11m17s until the end at 12m35

i think it would be perhaps too abstract but it would definitely please me ;)

Just wanted to post that I finally got to share this video of Patrick's 4CC LP with my Canadian neighbor. She's a very nice elderly lady who loves figure skating (she used to skate when she lived in Canada), but she didn't know about Patrick or about how to watch videos on Youtube, so I just showed it to her on my phone.

Watching Patrick's skating with her made my night! :yahoo:

awww this made my night too... i used to watch figure skating with my landlady, who is now 92... she LOVED Patrick and then we watched 4CC when Kevin Reynolds won and she fell in love with him even more than with Patrick... she was "this guy has the weirdest face... no wonder why he grows his hair so long... but damn, those jumps!!!"

haha... i miss my landlady so i totally relate to your experience as of now..

If i were to share figure skating with aliens, or with people who have never seen it, I'd show Patrick for sure... he is the ONLY skater in the field who truly is a skater.

(i will be persecuted for saying this in the Edge but it's okay... I am tough)

That's so wonderful, 4everchan! :cool2:

Did you see this tweet that I re-tweeted today?

I'm sure that it would be controversial in The Edge as well, but really, it's so true for us! :agree:

Good Morning, ladies.
Could you solve me doubt?
Now that's Nam going to Boston, affects the starting order for Patrick?

 For us, that is DEFINITELY SO TRUE!!! I felt the same when Michelle Kwan didn't win the Olympics twice (although it took me until after she retired to realize it). For those skaters who are able to win the Olympics, that's wonderful, but it doesn't dictate how much we enjoy their skating. I very much hoped the "Michelle situation" wouldn't happen again with Patrick, but it did (unless by some miracle he can pull it off in Pyeongchang, shocking the entire figure skating world to its core ;)).

There's a thread in The Edge now about whether Ashley Wagner's legacy in the sport is dependent on whether she wins a World medal. For me, those types of threads are pointless. Certain skaters have a legacy in my mind and I don't care if the skating world (including other skating fans) necessarily agrees with me. Neither, for me, is a skater's legacy only a matter of the results they achieve. If they have touched me in some way over the years, I will remember them fondly. Call me simple-minded, but there you go.

Hi 4everchan, would you like Yundi Li better than Lang Lang? Could Patrick use something from Yundi? I saw this:

Roy Thomson Hall Toronto presents, Sat Mar 19, 2016 8pm

Back in 2000, at the age of 18, Yundi became the youngest musician to win the International Chopin Piano Competition. The Chinese superstar hasn’t stopped impressing since, becoming a pioneer of music education in his native country, an ambassador for Chopin at home and abroad, and a regular on both the Deutsche Grammophon and the EMI Classics roster.

Programme:
Chopin: Ballade No. 1 in G minor, Op. 23
Chopin: Ballade No. 2 in F Major, Op. 38
Chopin: Ballade No. 3 in A flat Major, Op. 47
Chopin: Ballade No. 4 in F minor, Op. 52
Chopin: 24 Preludes, Op. 28

I certainly prefer Yundi Li... despite the Nike ads ;) nice program there... but it's YUZU's music ;) (ballade #1 ... actually to make a side story, Yuzu's music cutter cut the main musical theme of the Ballade which is very sad... especially as Yuzu would have skated the hell out of it... )

But for Chopin : I have ONE major preference : Polish pianist Zimerman. He is WONDERFUL... I had the joy of hearing him live... he doesn't come to North America much anymore if at all (perhaps still in Canada) because he travels with his own piano and that requires some glue, metal pieces and tools, that the American customs wouldnt let him travel with... so he decided not to go to the USA anymore (and I think that it means less in Canada as well, as it's not very viable to tour Canada, without going to the USA).

If we were to pick among this list, Patrick is already skating to the E minor prelude in his current Chopin program(the slow piece in the middle)

I'd suggest Ballade #3

Ballade # 2
is SUPER fun.. as it starts very slowly and has a huge outburst of flowing notes in the fast sections... so it could be fun... it is the easiest to do music cuts to...

Ballade #4... lots of music cuts would be needed and I am not sure I'd like that.... it is such a gorgeous piece.... I would forgive Patrick's music editor if he managed to extract 4:30 minutes of it in a good way... please listen to the opening... you can already see patrick's skating on it.... :)

I think Patrick's current Chopin program was extremely well crafted (minus one music cut that is a tiny bit awkward after the slow section) and he would need to pick another composer if he chooses piano again ;)

.ballade 3 .. it's the most skating friendly and accessible for fans of the 3 others ( I would prefer Patrick doesn't skate to the 1st ballade as Yuzu fans will make a big deal out of nothing ;) :) :)

Today I changed my avatar for the first time since Sochi. I love the picture of Patrick wearing both OSMs, but in the spirit of celebrating the current Patrick, I wanted to choose something from 4CC. At first, I wanted a picture of him wearing his gold medal, but I didn’t like how it looked once I uploaded it. So, instead, I went with a picture of him in the ending position of his LP. (Good job to the photographer, because he sure didn’t hold it for very long before the ice slap ). What I love about this picture is that it offers us the chance to look at the ending position up close and in detail. On one knee, Patrick has one hand over his heart and the other hand upturned and outstretched toward the audience. To me, the ending position says, “In this program I have shared what’s in my heart and offered it freely to all of you.” The upturned hand is a symbol of giving, and I feel so fortunate to be able to “take” what Patrick is offering this season, especially in the LP. I also chose the ending position picture over the medal picture for my avatar because, at the end of the day, it’s not about the medal. It’s about what Patrick does on the ice. I’m a fan of what Patrick gives to us on the ice (even MTK, when he skates it like at Nationals). So, rather than emphasize the gold medal, I chose to emphasize Patrick on the ice. Actually, I hadn’t paid much attention to the ending position of the LP until I saw this picture and it got my mind going in this direction. Full-size image here.

I hope this post didn’t bore you. Who would have thought you could do a whole post about the process of changing your avatar? :laugh2: Patrick brings out the philosophical side of me. :) We’re between competitions, so I thought I’d share what's been going through my mind today.

skatingfan4ever, I really love your avatar! (The only thing I'd like to discuss with you: I think it's his right hand over his heart and his left hand outstretched toward the audience?)

Oh, well, maybe so. Can someone else help us out here?
