2016 Worlds, General Info & Entries

I'll try to post things on the Slack, so it's easy to access. :)

That would be much appreicated. I am being dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century and I have at least learned how to bookmark the worlds forums on my cellphone.
(10 day forecast is showing low 50s and cloudy with occasional showers. Bring your Seattle sombrero!)

Apologies if these questions were already answered...Is it 24 for all finals, including dance? If so, will there likely be 4 groups of 6 skaters/couples each? And is ice resurfacing typically done before the final two groups?

For Pairs it's 16 couples and Dance it's 20 couples, so they also have 4 groups (4 pairs per group/5 ice dance pairs per group). Ice resurfaces are generally done every two groups, so there will be an ice resurface halfway through.

Oh and I realized a while ago that it means the Celtics and Bruins will have to have a road trip because of Worlds. Lol. Sorry it's just I find it somewhat satisfying when....I really don't know how to explain it....I mean I like hockey and basketball (But hockey a lot more), but....I really can't word what I want to say...

It's an even more prolonged road trip, this past weekend was also Hockey East semi-finals and finals, so they get bumped for those, too. I wish my Black Bears had had a better season so they'd have been playing, but oh well, such is life. I was watching a Bruins game the other day, and they showed the really long road trip schedule, and I smiled because I knew skating was coming up. :)

Hmm, how to put this with political correctness ... I would have to say that typically the OC are not a must-see. It's nothing at all like, say, an Olys OC. There will be the national anthem, local skate groups and probably a featured guest, but the athletes aren't involved. Of course, I have no idea what is planned for Boston.

I do plan to watch but I would not be bereft if I had a better offer and missed it.

Wow. I hope my friend who is choreographing the Opening number does not see this. I am looking forward to it.

Ah, I see. Thanks for the insight, this is good to know.

Just in case anyone missed this, there is a direct bus from the airport to Back Bay, and back to the airport.
https://www.massport.com/logan-airport/to-and-from-logan/logan-express/back-bay/
Its called the BackBay Logan Express and it costs $5 (note: no cash taken) and runs every 20 minutes, depending on traffic. It stops at Copley Square "T" station and Hynes convention center.
If you can find a place at the airport to sell you a weekly MTBA "T" pass, the trip is free. I will try and find out where in the Airport one can purchase a pass.
(There are rumors on the web that they vending machines are near baggage pickup)

This may be a stupid question, but how do I tell which side the judges are on? I'm in balcony 304 and I'm trying to decide where I'll be relationally to everything else.

From what I can tell, you'll be on the judges' side near the corner

I'm also in balcony 304 except for the ladies free skate.

Thank you for the info.
Last time I went to Boston, arrived on United, I couldn't find the place to purchase a pass, I think I paid $5 directly to the bus driver.
This time I will arrive on Delta, I hope I can purchase a week pass at the airport, so I don't have to pay extra $5 for Logan Express.

On the way back, my flight was 7am, so I had to take a cab because Logan Express back to airport start at 5am, and with tight security at Logan Airport, that was too late.
According to airport staff, between 5-6am is the busiest time at TSA security checkpoint at Logan because a lot of flight depart around that time.
Line was so long and took me at least 1 hour to clear the security. They don't let you go to the front even your departure time is close.
If you travel by the air, I suggest you go early.

I think we all know it's just a money making scheme to sell expensive water for the vendors. Same deal at the airports - you can't bring in your own water from outside but they're perfectly happy to sell you a bottle when you pass security.

As I mentioned in my post from Andrew, they are perfectly fine with you bringing their vendor's water bottles into the arena.

I have not received any info about food for people on restricted diets in response to my email yet. I will have to call.

A friend of mine received the info regarding gluten free items. Is that something you are looking for?

It is very wise to arrive early at Logan or any other large airport. A few weeks ago, I saw a story on the national news that said TSA lines at major airports were getting longer and longer and some people who arrived two hours early missed their flights. I plan to be at Logan three hours early for my flight home.....Its a good place to people watch anyway! AND they allow empty water bottles.....

The Brussels attacks won't help matters. I've read news stories stating that major U.S. cities are on 'high alert', and Boston has made the short list:

CNN:
"Airports in cities across the country -- including Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles, Miami, and Philadelphia -- stepped up security in the wake of the attacks, though there are no known threats, according to officials."

Without a doubt. And since Islamic extreamists have already attacked Boston, I hope when they increase security, they will increase personnel both at the arena and airport, but that may be a vain hope. Here in the states, National Public Radio offered this advice today. If the city you are in comes under attack, get off the mass transportation system at the next stop. Dont wait.

Well I guess I should plan for a 4 a.m. departure to catch my Saturday morning flight!
