2016 World Championships Ladies SP

so apparently Gracie is a 9.75 in interpretation, Lena is 7.75, Anna tonight was a 7.50
Mao is a 7.75 in SS.

Ok then

LOL at how Gracie's Flip was called ! and some judges still give her positive GOE :rolleye:

It was a reduction of -1 to -2 for the 3F. But +1's across were very generous. However, obviously top skaters get gifted with +GOE whereas if it were a second-tier skater, surely the GOE would have be negative across the board. The lack of steps before the flip (I mean, a double 3 isn't exactly preceding steps) should have brought it to negative GOE IMO.

The inflation was expected for Gold, but man that was some WE NEED A US WORLD CHAMPION DESPERATION-level PCS.

Since I'm complaining about Gracie I still get to harp on everyone else right :P

I actually like Gracie more than Ashley and you do get a pass :p

And I get it, I do and it does happen everywhere. Absolutely. I just think if we're going to treat it as a necessary evil and frankly, I really don't see how we'll ever get rid of it, considering the nature of skating, let's just admit it and that's it. But then we just treat it as such for everyone and fair play. I'm fine with that. But as long as it gets remembered.

I think it's unfair because all of these women train so hard but I'll go with a that's the way the world is, if it's for everyone. Now, I'm off to watch Anna again and enjoy. :)

Welp I just realize that Satoko and Rika are in 6th and 7th place. That's perilously close for Japan to maintain their 3 spots.

Satoko and Zhenya will probably soar in the FS ;) Personally I'd like to see Rika pass them both

Start what again? I'm not starting a conspiracy theory against Russians--the point is that ALL the top skaters have a chance of being overscored when they deliver strong performances. The judges want to generate excitement and hype, and there are a lot of ways they can do that. For the past few years, the hype happened to follow the talented Russian girls coming straight out of the junior ranks. It makes sense why they got big scores pretty quickly after winning a medal. As it makes sense that today, Gracie got the judges' generosity to please the home crowd and get them excited for the FS.

Maybe Adelina was overscored a bit, but Julia not at all.

At Skate Canada with a clean fantastic long program she got 130-131 (TES: 70 PCS: 60), that's not overscored.
At GPF she finished second with an underscored 125 for the LP just because the event was in Japan and home-country Mao Asada should have won this.

Also this system rewards a lot consistency: so again, apart from Adelina (Gracie Gold of Russia), other russian skaters weren't overscored.

As i said before, i'm okay with this.

Personally, my problem isn't that there's now overscoring in the USA. It's that suddenly oh hey - overscoring is fine.

So overscoring is fine when it is the US ladies that are being overscored, but not fine when it's the Russians. Ok. So next time the Russians or Japanese get overscored I do believe we should expect everyone to shut up. It's either for everyone or no-one. So we should just all remember this moment and that's it.
I think Medvedeva was overscored today :) Way! Nice saves- but those PCS?????

We've reached an impasse on this. Ah well, moving on.

Mannn just caught up with Zijun's skate.. that was simply beautiful, sublime, gorgeous, and soo very very pretty! Who'd have thought she finally had that poise to really milk out of nuaounces in the musical phrases and discovered inner grace like her fav skater. I am so pleased for her. This is an inspired performance after years of troubles.

The program fitted her really well. She should have been in the final flight.

I'd easily put her much higher top 5 even.... she was criminally underscored in PCS 28.17 ... come on... arghh....

So skating order for final six just came out (for Free Skate):

19 Elena Radionova
20 Evgenia Medvedeva
21 Satoko Miyahara
22 Anna Pogorilaya
23 Gracie Gold
24 Ashley Wagner

So the three historical headcases go last...will need lots of wine for this one

Ah ... enough time to adjust the GOE and PCS for the last two to determine the winner.

That "double edged sword" of being one of the last to skate has frequently worked against Gracie. This time it worked for her as it did at Nationals. I'm not a fan but fair is fair and she did what she had to when so often she couldn't.

Gosh the IJS just becomes more and more ridiculous.

PCS: Gracie > Ashley > Anna > Evgenia > Satoko > Elena > Mao ?????????????

I would agree on this order only on Performance. But in overall this is just... B S

It is a painful truth indeed- Gracie Gold is Adelina of Russia, the one who always has been overscored. Though, it is not Gracie's fault.

As sad as it is (for me at least), I don't see anyone but an American winning.
There will be everything - GOE and PCS games all over the place

I wish Russian and Japanese ladies to skate clean and not to be too sad about the judging...
