2016 World Championships Ladies SP

Gracie completely overscored in PCS! Mao, Pogo, and Satoko get hosed. If you're going to give some favors, give others too!

Maybe higher GOEs on the jumps and higher PCS for skating skills/speed?

Ashley's programs don't have the complexity of some others - the footwork is simpler, the spins not that special. now that her 3-3 problems re bhind her I expect she'll fix that for next season. Agree sh is by far the most dynamic skater out there today. What about a program by Rohene for next year?

Yeah but it really isn't how things shake out, now is it? I mean I do have a decent memory and omg the screaming when it's certain countries and yet it's yay when it's certain other countries. In principle, I am against all overscoring.

But if we are going to say ok it's normal for home advantage, then all right. And that needs to hold for literally every single country. We play it that way? Deal. So nobody here is going to moan once we leave North America as we are about to. Good to know.

I didn't complain about Sochi and I'm not going to complain about Boston. Russian fans shouldn't either.

Agree!

I'm sure I'm not the first person to bring this up but ....can we talk about how distracting Medvedeva's stockings are half-off the boots? Is this some trend she's trying to bring back or happen?

Totally agree! It's been driving me bananas! She's such a beautiful young girl, adorable! But those stockings look so awful.

What is Ashleys solo jump? Just wondering because Gracie has the flip. I am trying to understand why Gracie is ahead of Ashley.
My little brain can't comprehend this.

I think all three were underscored; hope that doesn't carry over to the LP.

They were not underscored:
- Satoko has very little jumps. It wouldn't be right to put her above Elena, Ashley, Anna, Evgenia and Gracie.
- Rika was on fire tonight: she seemed pleased with her score. Her spins were the iffiest of the last group and her BV was the lowest :P
- Mao was a mess: 3A<, messy solo 3L, StSq3.... She should be happy at her score...

So skating order for final six just came out (for Free Skate):

19 Elena Radionova
20 Evgenia Medvedeva
21 Satoko Miyahara
22 Anna Pogorilaya
23 Gracie Gold
24 Ashley Wagner

So the three historical headcases go last...will need lots of wine for this one

Not so good for Medvedeva and Radionova... It is much easier to sort of "fix" the score if a skater will be skating later+judges will probably save GOE and PCS for American ladies...

Anyway, good luck girls!

Oh god. I'll probably just go straight for the rum on this one.

Just got to the hotel. Was able to stream a few minutes of the event in the cab and wow, Gracie and Anna were sensational!

But mostly, my girl threw down! :yes2:

I was more nervous for her than I think I've ever been about skating (even my own!) before she skated, and she won the SP...clearly, I should get nervous more often. :laugh2: I'm SO SO SO SO SO happy for her and I just have a feeling she's got this.

I think they still need to skate clean. 3 point lead isn't that unbeatable.

Oh I am sure the placement will change dramatically tomorrow. But the PCS tonight were a big indicator of what to come. Evgenia is NOT going to have it easy (and she is the only one consistent enough to challenge the US ladies) no matter how much the haters claim she is overscored.

I am also pretty sure tomorrow is going to be a splatfest so Gracie is done well to secure 3.5 points lead just in case.

Great event, so many wonderful performances. Am over the moon for Ashley and Anna, especially.

Well done to Gracie for exorcising the SP demons, but I so can't deal with the lack of musicality and those PCS scores. It's like she can't hear or feel the music. You can tell the programs are well constructed, you can see where the steps and emphases should be, but they're always just slightly - and maddeningly! - off and there's no connection between the choreography and any sort of intentionality or expressivity. Sigh.

Since I'm complaining about Gracie I still get to harp on everyone else right :P

Tbh people aren't as harsh today bc Gracie has been competing longer and "built up" to this moment. The Russian babies tend to get their crazy scores prematurely and that can be more shocking/grating.

what?

Actually Russian babies won so many medals before crazy scores. Gracie Gold before this wasn't even able to grab a medal at 4CC where Polina won last year. LOL

So please do not start this, because you are wrong.

Pogorilaya's SP has by far my favorite step sequence after she skates the rest of it clean. The step sequence tends to always be meh if she's fallen a jump before it, luckily wasn't the case this time!

Yeah that was the best of the best from this excellent program  I'd have her 1st after SP, Ashley 2nd and Gracie 3rd or 2nd but by minimal margin but judges had different view on that. All of them were great too as well as whole top 10  Ok ... Mao was not great but she can still move up.

Fill in the blanks. Sochi to Sotnikova is like Boston to ..............

Got busy at work so had to leave before the last 2 groups (of course) then I got back and wow (gasp). Happy for a lot of people (Ashley, Gold, Mirai). Sad for my favs Satoko and Mao. Some of the scoring is :scratch2: like Mao's pcs. I sorry Mao...guess they have moved on. Maybe with a good healthy next year she can get back in their good graces.
