2016 World Championships Ladies Free Skate

This forum is going bananas, yo.

I was clutching a pillow on my couch so tightly throughout Ashley's program until her score came up, and when I saw she won silver I whipped that pillow at the tv and squealed at the top of my lungs... Somehow the tv and my windows aren't broken.

Hang in there Gracie, maybe you'll get a world medal by the time you're 24. ;)

I continue to be miffed by how bigger jumps aren't rewarded in ladies figure skating. This was certainly true before the COP (Tara Lipinski, anyone?), and it is glaringly true with the itemizing under the COP, where you have tiny but rotated jumps from the likes of Evgenia get HIGHER +GOE than much bigger ones from Anna. It's a problem because higher jumps aren't just better looking and more crowd-pleasing, they're also much more difficult to do, require more energy, and are riskier. Evgenia won fair and square under a system that existed long before she was born, but in my ideal world, there's a good case to be made that Anna deserved gold.

I kind of like it because flow and ease is way better looking to my eye than just big jumps. Zhenya and Ashley had the best flow on the jumps tonight IMO but Zhenya's were superior when taking into account the UR's Ashley got. I don't know....I like big jumps but I don't think they always look better so I'm glad they take the whole thing into consideration.

It's not the size of the boat....it's the motion in the ocean ;)

I think the most underscored performance was Rika. What does this girl have to do to get recognition...I hope though, that the Japanese fed will think hard about lobbying for Satoko as their number one, so much. I think in the long run she will have problems being competitive.

For Lena, I am very impressed. At the beginning of this season I believed she would disappear due to puberty ala Julia Lipnitskaia. She fought through it. She is a success. I believe she will get better jumps when she gets used to her body more. She seemed like a gangly teen, I hope to see more of a lady next season.

It'll be brutal in Russia, that's for sure. To think who they have sitting at home right now, like the former WC.... its going to be tough. But fun for us!

She has Miki Ando syndrome. The WORST posture of all the top ladies, doesn't point her toes, can be shaky, gives the slightest hint at URs when in reality there are none. I love her to death, but I see why she's placed where she is. Fair scoring IMO.

You know, I was actually kind of upset that people weren't standing for Anna. Because by the end of it, not everyone was. I'm going to give Anna the benefit of the doubt that she hugged Evgenia and Ashley because of time worries or excitement or something. I'm not going to give the benefit of the doubt to this crowd; that was out of spite and anger towards Anna that all 3 Russians had gone clean and that Gracie and Ashley were in trouble.

Really? The crowd was amazing and you guys still find a way to complain about the conspiracy and bias against Russian skaters.

Well, US homecooking was on full display here. This should have been:
1. Bear
2. Pogo
3. Satoko
4. Radio
5. Wagner
6. Gold

Bear got 15+ points on GOE. Damn.

Omg lol did Candeloro realise the camera is still on? What are they saying?

She must have a genius strategy for a LP without a 3-3, while every other skater in the final group except Graice had two 3-3s

And it is a genius strategy. There are no bonuses for doing 3-3s. Why would she risk the 3-3 in the free skate if she knows her 2A-3T are more likely to get credited and +GOEs. I don't blame the skater for playing the COP game. It's the systems fault that it doesn't differentiate between the more difficult combos.

Tell us that when you are in the middle of the Pacific. In a dinghy. In a storm.

Just saying....

;)

In the long? To be fair, Gracie only beat Mao in the long by 0.43.

The fact that she beat Mao with an emotionless disaster skate with a fall and a pop when Mao had the most exquisite and touching performance of the night and even performed a 3A is a joke, and even in PCS.

What I said on Thursday:

Ashley LOVES her free skate. She loves the message that it sends about a fading artist continuing with the show even though even thing seems to say give up. This is the perfect moment for that program. This is the moment she's been waiting for. Trust me, she's going to be fantastic on Saturday.

Was I right, or was I right. I told you Ashley loves this program! She sold it when it counted! She just showed all the people who said they wish she's get a new program. Way to go Ashley!

Now how do we solve a problem like Gracie? Just blew it again. Sigh...

Ashley's performance was the best of the night of that group for me. Don't understand how her PCS is apparently a joke when Evgenia got 72 in PCS and Anna skates just as cold and stone faced as Gracie but okay.

Don't mistake Anna's poise for lack of emotion. Anna has a lot more innate musicality than Gracie does and it shows in how awkward Gracie's firebird looks compared to Anna's Scherezade. Both need to take facial emoting lessons from Yuna, Ashley, or Evgenia though.

Hey, this was my only problem. This crowd was incredible though :) One of the best IMO!! Hey, nothing was as bad as the Russian crowd in Sochi.

Give the girl a break! She backloaded (which was not available in Yuna's WR days), tanoed almost everything and had cuteness to the factor of 10!! Kudos to her! Why should the WR not be broken by that skate if I may ask?

Because the quality was not up to par? The 3Lz deserved a ! just like Ashley's did, it's unfair to all the competitors if they'll call everyone else but not hers. Also her 2As are tiny and are of poor quality while the rest of her jumps are not amazing. It's not fair to exceptional jumpers like Anna to be getting similar GOE when the quality is so much better.

Also during Yuna's days the 10% bonus was available in the FS portion only but her jumping passes were spread much more evenly throughout the program

Oh gosh I just want to stop talking about the world record because I'm becoming a broken record, it's starting to sound like I have some sort of vendetta against Evgenia, she absolutely and positively deserved her World title and congrats to her on winning in her debut year! Who was the last skater to do that?

I have doubts that the trio of Russian girls will be shaking in 2 years. They'll probably be replaced by another trio of tiny pre pubescent fast rotators. Russian skating is like a revolving door.

Guys, you need to see Anna live. She blew me away during her SP. She is passionate and skates big. Her jumps are just as big, if not bigger, than Gracie's. She made me a fan.

One thing Evgenia has going for her is her smile. She emotes better than Anna. Silly as it sounds, that probably goes a long way for PCS.

And obviously, the tanos lol. Anyone remember the one-foot skating stsq requirement that could count toward levels? And how everyone ended up doing it but were so horrible that the ISU canceled the rule? Yeah.
Start tano-ing your butts off, ladies! I want them gone by the Olympics!
