Patrick Chan

Any predictions for Patrick's Olympics program types?

What were his most popular and successful programs and should he try pieces similiar to those?

I understand and agree that he must cut down the crazy footwork he always puts into his programs but hope he will concentrate the best for stsq at the climax, preferably at the end.:agree:

My own take is sexy/dangerous SP (Mission Impossible, etc.) and Classical (but upbeat) LP, taking a page from Yuna, what do fans think?

He is one of the more matured male skaters, so I really hope he will capitalize on that!

4everchan, do you know any Classical pieces that are at the level of Tchaikovsky's Concerto 1 in terms of emotional stirring? Kovtun used it in Sochi, so not good to reuse.

i like the sexy dangerous SP :) that would work for me... or jazzy but not crooner style more like his take 5 program... which I LOVE

for the free.... I prefer classical for Patrick.... but could get convinced by a really good movie soundtrack... if there were one...

Regarding Tchaikovsky concerto 1... what do you mean about emotional stirring ? how do you feel when you listen to it... (i feel very little stirring but more like power and exhuberance so I am not sure what you mean... once I know I can suggest something... ) I personally would love him to skate on ravel`s piano concerto in G major, 2nd movement ;) I posted that a few weeks ago. that would be my favourite.

Thanks for the welcome everyone. :)

I agree with you guys that Patrick should keep his choreography a little easier. Increasing the technical content with that complex choreography was too tough for him to be consistently clean, I think. Tweaking programs mid-season is probably always a challenge. I thought his performance of Mack the Knife at Nationals was great, but I hope he doesn't do any more programs of that kind in competition. I want him to do programs that he's comfortable with, enjoys, and that let him do his technical elements without popping/missing rotations or going into the boards, etc. He has such speed going into jumps and gets such height, he really needs a program that gives him the 'breathing room' for those kinds of jumps. Like how he had to add a few seconds in his SP this season to accommodate that.

And here is a photo of a radiant Patrick at the banquet. :)

Hello Mango,

Yes, powerful, exuberant but also celebratory. I think many warhorses are like this, eg. Beethoven 9th Ode to Joy, Tchaikovsky Concerto 1, 4 Seasons, etc....they are the sort of celebrate humanity, feel-good type of music....but there's a fine line between trite, cliche and too well-known, and too obscure. It's tempting to pick Mahler, Barber etc..but concern is audience don't connect to lesser known pieces.

I am a bit taken aback that so many skaters skated to "Feeling Good" this time, unfortunately not the Nina Simone powerful version, but does it mean out of the question for Patrick?

My hope is that Patrick picks sexy over boyish...no more vests, please, it's too 90s Louis Huang does "Structure"...

sexy is good... i like sexy vests though..but less is more :)

regarding mahler... it landed V/M an olympic gold so why not :)

regarding celebratory ...

i mentioned this before which rocks : schumann 3rd symphony it would be such a good piece for patrick

or why not schumann's concerto if patrick feels like some more piano but i'd suggest the 3rd mvt to be more fun for instance, some passages like these are so energetic ... and the end is spectacular

patrick & jeffrey to start my day :love::love:

omg... :)

I had never seen this video so thank you for sharing it.... so it's a discovery for me this esqualo... I know Patrick has done tango before and with all the piazzolla going on ice these days, from adios nonino to others... I'd prefer he keeps it as an exhibition... HOWEVER, its timing is close enough for a SP and it does have great bones already... .Perhaps Patrick is thinking about it for next year's SP?

Notes : why Patrick is so good at tango... of course : command of the blade makes the steps convincing.... but I think that on top of that, it is his power and (I don't like the word) masculinity. He does impose a strong presence on ice which is needed in tango. No offense to other skaters doing tango but very few have this edge....
SO, in light of that, I wouldn't mind if Patrick used tango for a SP...

What do you guys think ? Is this Patrick's SP in the making ?

I wouldn't mind seeing it. Here are some complimentary words from a Japanese fan (pardon the Twitter translation) about how freely he skates:

パトリックのスケートって何であんな自由自在なんだ?雲の上をふわふわってスキップしてるみたいなのにスピードがあって、陸でもあんだけ動いたらコントロール出来ないよってくらいだし、技術は極めたら芸術になるはパトリック・チャンのスケートだと思った!!

Patrick's skating is what is so flexible it? 極metara technology, and I can't control it like they are skipping over the clouds fluffy? speed, both on land and moves much much art is Patrick Chan on skating I thought!

Someone else mentioned that he skated to Mack the Knife.

Also, a cute drawn cartoon of Patrick and the guys:

i hope not... :) I think it's not powerful/uplifting/varied enough for a FS... at least the music cut as is...

I think it's rather powerful and sexy but agree it's better suited for a SP, not diluted with so many jumps and other elements, but tantalizing and leaving them wanting for more.
