Adam Rippon's future in skating

I guess He's like Evan when you look at Johnny Weir. Evan and Johnny skated against each their entire career's and it was only near the end that Evan beat Johnny.

As far as I remember Lysacek did beat Weir in every major competition starting at OG 2006...

You were the one who said that there was a "reason" Adam "won" Nationals over Max and Nathan. I'm just pointing out what that "reason" was.

I guess maybe they're half and half. The first time I saw Johnny and Evan was way back in 2001 at Junior Worlds. I think Johnny Won until 2006 Nationals and though Evan beat Johnny at the Olympics, they were both off the podium at the games. I realize that Evan was injured in 2008 but Johnny was the only Medalist the US had in the entire event if I'm not mistaken.

During Worlds, Jeremy reacted on Twitter with lots of praise and support for the men (U.S. and otherwise) as well as other disciplines, so he obviously was watching (ETA: not in person, b/c he was training for SOI, but he was watching). I assume therefore that Jeremy is well aware of what he would be up against.

Jeremy was a brief sub-topic of Nick Zaccardi's article yesterday re Ashley:

FWIW, with my own ears, I overheard Jeremy say in Feb that he was undecided about whether to return to competition. He was speaking to an audience member at the free ice show in NYC where he was one of the performers.​

Jeremy or not it will be a great men's competition. Will Max come back fighitng and will he find himself because he seems a bit lost. Will Adam add the quad lutz. Will Jason Brown return to form and will the judges continue to fall into his pony tailed trance or will his pcs drop? Will Farris and Nathan make a difference. Will Grant fade away? Two spots to earn three for the olympics oh the intrigue and pressure.

Yeah....:noshake: Jeremy needs to put all of his years of experience to good use and become the US version of Morozov. He certainly has the ability to choreograph and I think he choreographed or at least helped choreograph his exogenesis program. Is that correct?

I am ssure a lot will have to do with motivation and what is out there for him. He may be able to train and choreograph and the economy in general and for skatingi sn't great out there.

This has been an issue for years!! Believe it or not, people are much more civil than they used to be when it comes to defending their favorites. It's too bad I don't have posts from 1998-2001. That's when I started talking About Maria B. In fact, I really started talking about her in 1996. I remember being told by a Kwan Fan to "Move To Russia if you want to talk about Maria" I just laughed at the time and didn't take it seriously.

First of all...........Gross. What I'm trying to say is that I think Jeremy's skating has a definite ceiling and I think he's gone as far technically as he can go. His best skates are not equal to any of the Current top Men. I'd say that when our Men are healthy, I'd have Jeremy behind Max, Adam, Joshua, and Jason. In fact, I might put him behind Nathan and a clean Ricky or Ross. The US Men are much deeper than they used to be and IMO, Jeremy would better served as a choreographer.

When Abbott was skating at his peak, we had three men in the GPF and two on a podium. Three spots to worlds were never a question, it was a given. The current US field is as deep as a puddle compared to tha! Let any one of them qualify for a GPF first, nevermind medalling at one, and then we'll even start to compare them to the likes of Abbott....

Ah come on TMC you really have to step back and kind of "laugh" or smile and not take things too seriously because we all know skating has dropped in popularity and it is only the diehards that really care. I just like to have a bit of fun saying what some are thinking and give some kind of perspective. But back to ADAM, I am sure he will go for it. With his bf AShley at his side and not much else on his plate =this is his big chance.And I am glad it got posters like you posting It is nice to see some other voices than the regulars. But I was not necessarily trying to show some level of shade; just stating what i think are the facts. Besides the season is basically over what else are skating fans to do? Figure out a way of designing a boot Mirai can't destroy?

That only happened because several skaters had an unexpected meltdown and maybe things will be different in future. Brown was really lucky and I doubt that this same luck will continue in future . Sixth or seventh place would be more realistic for him.

I think the point is that he capitalised on that luck. And he was in a really stiff place to skate too - he was the last skater in the last group, skated right after Hanyu, and he brought it. Unfortunately, Jeremy didn't have that kind of mettle. That men's event in Sochi was a mess, he could have finished really high up...

Jason could have also capitalized on the Sochi field melting down to earn a bronze medal, though. :sarcasm: The judges were clearly willing to give him the marks seeing how high he ended up finishing after the short.

For Jason, though, that was only one time. For Jeremy, it was the latest in a long sequence of such.

You can loudly proclaim how lucky Jason was all you like, but he still had to deliver to get that fourth, and he did. Big time.

Umm. Have you forgotten that Jason was a first year senior when he went to the Olympics with exactly 1 Senior B, 2 GPS, and no senior level Championship experience under his belt? And that he'd already done that brand new team event? Yeah he had a bit of a melt down skating last at Sochi but the point is, he learned from that experience how to handle the pressure of skating last at his first Worlds.

Yup. It started on about.com and moved in 2003. In the early days, some of the posters would just eviscerate you for liking Irina, Maria, or Sarah Hughes, or for suggesting Sasha Cohen's jumps were flawed.

What if someone dared to criticize the holy Michelle Kwan? I can't even imagine those fan wars back then when there are still some people fighting fiercely under some youtube videos of events that happened 15 years ago or more. Are the oldest threads present somewhere to read?

As I came on Internet in 1996 it was a shock to see that lots of skating fans were still fighting who should have won the men´s gold in 1988 OG.... It was on Skatefans list or what ever it was called at that time.
