I think fans are over-reacting. The announcement from JSF is just a confirmation of things we already knew a few weeks ago. Yuzuru's recovery is 2-3 weeks behind schedule. He did plan to participate in ice shows if he could recover 2-3 weeks earlier. Ice shows are business opportunities. He gets paid for doing ice shows. Nobody forces him to do ice shows. He can decline as he wishes.

His injury is a not a severe one. Other athletes have experienced far more severe injuries and many don't disclose their injuries. Yuzuru doesn't experience pains beyond the norm for any athlete. I think it's the over-reaction of his fans that prevent JSF from releasing any information too early because many fans tend to panic easily.

There are ways to skip competitions if they want to skip. People act differently under different circumstances and when they face different incentives and rules. If JSF requires national champ to attend Asian winter games, then skaters will just under-perform to lose national, so they can avoid competing at Asian winter games.
