Thanks! Ive never been to US (I want to, some day!), but living there for Japanese doesn’t sound so difficult. No wonder some Japanese skaters, Shizuka, Dai, Nobu, Mao.., etc. once went to US for the coaches there. Speaking of Benihana, im a big fan of curry rise there. Now I looked up it online and was surprised to see their business in abroad.

Jason is at Carol’s now? If shoma is there, it’s wonderful. Daisuke Murakami practices there. I think he’s really kind-hearted and persistent guy! He can speak English fluently (his first language seems English, not Japanese), he can be a great help to Shoma! Of course, getting instructions/advises from Carol must be a big experience for him. I like his students artistic performances like Kwan and Lysacek.

Yes, Japanese people can live here easily. The only difficulty I see is that our public transportation in this area is non-existent, unless you are in downtown Chicago... Yes, there are 3 or 4 Benihana in the Chicago area - one only a mile from my house (which is good and bad!:laugh2:) I will be having my birthday dinner there!

I was shocked to see that Jason was working with Frank Carroll. Here is the training center. www.deserticecastle.com. I forgot that Daisuke trains there, as does Gracie Gold. Anthony Liu is also there. Maybe Daisuke could be Shoma's translator!

Correction: This is only speculation that Jason was possibly working on jumps with Frank Carroll. Daisuke, Gracie, and Jason were skating at the Toyota Center. Did not intend to mislead anyone.:thank: Thank you to Tavi for the correction.

... After all, he won gold at both his GP events in his first senior season, even without the second (flip) quad. That must be quite a rare accomplishment! ...

Actually he took the silver at Skate America but just barely missed the gold (which went to Max Aaron). He fell on his quad in the SP, otherwise I think he would have won the gold. His FS was good though! Artistry is always so subjective, but I have high hopes that he will continue to improve. ...

Another reminder is that Shoma's win at TEB was based only on the SP -- a unique circumstance.
The TEB free skates had to be cancelled b/c of the terrorist attacks in Paris.

Regardless, his first season as a senior was very impressive indeed.
Wishing good luck to Shoma in his second season as a senior :).

I have thought about that and wondered what his FS would have been like. The SP was basically flawless, but would he have been able to maintain that in the FS. Nevertheless, he proved he knew how to skate with the big boys at GPF. And of course then we were treated to (my favorite) Shoma and Yuzu and the wedding arms podium...Hope he can hold up under the second year pressure, the higher expectations, and the constant media presence. He seems pretty grounded, but they really do face a lot of scrutiny.

According to some recent Instagram comments, Jason was seen skating with Gracie and Daisuke at the Toyota Center (not Desert Ice Castle) last week. A couple of the comments mentioned the word training, but did not mention Frank Carroll. Frank Carroll is the Team USA mentor and some of us in the Jason thread have speculated that Jason went down to work with Frank on his jumps, but it's only speculation. Kori has been very open about the fact that she and Jason previously sought help with the 3A from other coaches, including Anthony Liu, Kristy Krall, and Tom Z. At this point there is absolutely no evidence that Jason actually worked with Frank Carroll last week, much less that he's switched from Kori to Frank.

Thank you Tavi for that clarification. I know Kori talked on The Skating Lesson about how important it is to use other coaches when necessary. At that point in time, she was talking about bringing in Anthony Liu to help out with quads. I wasn't implying that Jason was even thinking of switching coaches, let alone that he had done so. He and Kori have such a special relationship that frankly I can't see him ever working (permanently)with another coach. I wondered if maybe he wanted to get away from all the ruckus with the competition that was taking place.

Oh okay, sorry, misunderstood your reaction! Just wanted to make sure you and everyone else were clear. Anyway, tomorrow we find out about GP!

Completely understand and re-read what I wrote, and it was confusing. When it comes to Jason and quads, I can get a bit overzealous! I just SO want him to do well -- and be well!...And the drama continues! :palmf: Will we make it til tomorrow?!

The entire Ladies in Lavender soundtrack has been a common music choice. In Japan alone, Asada, Suzuki and Machida have used it. Of course warhorses are beautiful pieces of music that deserve to be skated to but there are so many other compositions that have rarely (or never) been used. Instead of having 3 Turandot programs or 5 Phantom Of The Opera programs a season, there's so much music waiting to be explored.

I admit two years ago I groaned when I heard Tatsuki's SP music choice, but his FS was an example of piece that's rarely used; Beethoven's Symphony no. 9. Brian Joubert had done it before him but the program failed to live up to the music, imo.

In Shoma's case it's a bit of an irony; having followed him since he was a junior, he was known for skating to less used pieces of music. Ravel's Tzigane, Secret Garden's Steps, Vanessa Mae's Blessed Spirits. In fact I think Tzigane still remains his finest FS so far. The program used to be hard to find online but thanks to this user, it's now on YouTube.

I love Tzigane. I don't want to be too quick to judge the new programs. We really only saw a skeleton of the FS, so I look forward to seeing the real thing. I'm not too fond of vocals, so the screaming in Spanish doesn't appeal to me too much, but we'll see where Shoma takes all this. Most of my favorites this year were war horses. The U.S. gold medalist pair Kayne/O'Shea skated to POTO. And Grant Hochstein used Les Mis. I remember thinking "oh no, not again", and yet both of these programs were really captivating. I guess it's all just a matter of taste. War horse or not, I can't wait to see Shoma skate to Fantasy.

Oh my goodness, you are SO disciplined to not look at the new programs!:p And the costume drama is just killing me. Still the big question -- will his SP deep V shirt be purple?! :scratch3: I love ballet and opera so am all in on those war horses! I can really see Shoma skating to music from the Don Quijote ballet.

Only 1 more day! Please, please, please -- SA!:hopelessness:

Im not so particular about ballet, but costume drama is funny! (Sorry, Don Juan is different from Don Quijote?)

Oh, finally GS Assignment comes! I kept thinking about it until I fell in sleep last night! If Shoma get entry in SA, i'm sure i'll jump with joy!

Thanks for your comment and further correction! There seems to be many rinks there. It is for the popularity of ice hockey?

Living there seems to need a car! I once watched Patrick coming to his rink by driving a car on Japanese TV (when he was in Detroit?).

So much to read on this thread today!
That’s exactly what I was doing with the photo where he is with all the skater’ moms at the restaurant:biggrin: but I couldn't find one who looked like him.

Today my mind is full of GS assignment. I must consider the huge time lag of 13 hours between NY and Japan !

Hmmm - just looked again at the hockey jersey video again. The hunt for mom continues. At the very end, I can see two ladies on the right are on the ice and one of them is taking pictures. When the two ladies leave the ice, I keep looking at the one on the left. Doesn't she look a little bit like Shoma? The clip goes by very fast, so it's still hard to tell. https://youtu.be/JBMlnXAyebA

I hope I fall asleep before it’s announced because I probably won’t be able to sleep if I see it before I lose consciousness. I’m curious about everyone!

Finding the link right now.

They investigation continues :cool14: (if it's her, she looks like she could be 16yo)

I have decided I am going to a museum today. Otherwise I will sit and stare at the clock all day!!! :eeking:...Yes, she looks young, but then all Japanese people look young to me. :) (That's a good thing!)

Hi, another new MAD uploaded today.:agree: Shoma with so many smiles.:luv17:

GS Assignment comes! Oh I can' wait.

Ohhh - so nice Mrs.Piggy! I love in the second one how the other skaters are staring at him. They look like they still can't believe it's really him! Knowing him, he was probably embarrassed by the attention, but he also looks genuinely happy. Lots of nice, beautiful smiles.

Glacier is closed for classes from June 29 to July 4 for our Independence Day holiday, although they could still work privately with Shoma, if he is still here. Or (oh no :palmf:) TV crews could film him. Just guessing no proof of that...Ok - true confessions. I drove by Glacier today to see if anything exciting was happening. Pretty quiet--only 2 cars. Didn't have the guts to go in and say "Hello, is Shoma still here." Acccchhh - I'm a creepy stalker!

Sorry if this already has been discussed, but I just noticed that Shoma is #3 in World Standings. Not bad for a senior debut, not bad at all!
