2016-2017 Programs by Discipline

Giselle would be great! Sleeping beauty is rather meh musically for me. It was the one ballet Tchaikovsky wrote in order to fit choreography already set to a certain extend, so it's rather mechanical/predictable imo. A male skater should use don Q but not necessarily the parts that most skaters use (irina's don Q program during 2000-2001). Like how about the actual men's variation??? Oh how I wish there was a John curry in the current field! Patrick comes close, but he has quads and elements to worry about, so he can't be as musical in competitions programs. Glad I could offer my opinion :)

Thanks for your insight. I am wanting Shoma to skate to DQ some day. We'll see! In the meantime, I am reliving the music through Curry (RIP) and Honda. Interesting how Curry can just skate with abandon because he doesn't have to worry about quads! I have to watch Irina's version again.

That would be a good piece of music for Shoma! Next season maybe???

Also, this may have been shared already, but here's a video of Adam's short:

Does anybody know where/if videos from the senior ladies competition at Glacier Falls will be posted?

Glacier Falls usually posts full coverage of the Senior and Junior Ladies and Men's events on icenetwork.com after the competition is over, and I assume they will be doing that again this year. No charge for viewing it on icenetwork.

I love Giselle! It has been used quite a few times these past years:

Ladies:
Ekaterina Gordeeva EX
Elizaveta Tuktamysheva EX
Yukari Nakano 08-09 LP (my favourite choreo)
Miki Ando 08-09 LP
Yuna Kim 2011 SP
Megan Yim 12-13 LP (can't find a video)
Thita Lamsam 13-14 LP
Elene Gedevanishvili 13-14 LP
Yuna Shiraiwa 14-15 (can't find a video)
Haruka Imai 14-15 SP
Mai Mihara 15-16 LP

Ice Dance:
Meryl Davis & Charlie White 12-13 SD
Alla Loboda & Pavel Drodz 14-15 FD

No programs from pairs or men that I can remember.

I love re-watching these two performances. I'm still mad about what happened with Miki, those underrotation calls (some of them not even deserved in the first place) forcing her to dumb down her awesome jump content. The jumping she did in this performance was PHENOMENAL and the most clever jump layout she ever had. That 2Axel+2Loop+2Loop right on the beats of the music was sublime. Morosov ditched the Giselle program after a couple performances and the new program that season wasn't as good. UGH.

Yukari's program had such great spins (preferred the combo spin at Skate America over NHK) and nice character, although her jumping definitely left something to be desired. She too was the victim of the scoring system, though, with her 3Axel attempts being so heavily penalized unfairly. Would have liked to see this program with less strict spiral requirements as well.

Karina Manta and Joe Johnson

FD "Dream On" (Aerosmith song with lyrics)

They competed it at Lake Placid.

I don't know if I've ever commented on a costume before, but I :luv17: Miki's! It suggests the ballet dress without copying it.

I must:thank: for showing me Mai Mihara. I am now her fan! and I guess I hadn't noticed this program if linked in other threads. Marina's choreography is lovely.

And Meryl and Charlie's Giselle is divine. Charlie did the musical cuts on this program, they're so connected and beautiful. (I think it was Doris Pulaski who pointed that out to me first on another thread months ago, and I never thanked her. So :thank:

Just watched a fan cam of Mariah Bell's Chicago SP and it is LITERAL PERFECTION. The dress! The StSq! The SASS! It hits all the right notes, and I can't wait to see it next time she competes.

Another conclusion I've arrived at: Mariah is one of the most underrated performers out there. Few other skaters could sell that program as well as she did.

She sort of has that charm that just comes out completely unforced. I've been a huge fan of her for a few years now and it 100% is because of this. I really wish the technical side didn't pose such difficulties for her because she has amazing programs year after year.

Sorry if it's already been posted but does anyone know what Ross Miner's programs are this year? I'm pretty sure he's keeping his short from last year (New York State of Mind), but someone please tell me he's not keeping that awful Queen long program from last year?? :noshake:

Did anyone see a report on Max Aaron's short program at the USFSA Collegiate Championships? He was the only entry in Senior Men, but skated his programs anyway. Just curious what music he used for his short.

I just watched Miyahara's LP and I love it!:luv17: The music edition is really great and I'm very happy it has Venus and Mars, two of my favorites. If it also had had Neptune, it would have been perfect but still, it's really great!
And what's with the -3Ts. Backup plan B and C and D? lol

There was VERY little news out of Collegiates save the scores and a handful of photos/comments from USFS. We had confirmation that The Lion King is the free skate, but it was radio silence all around on the subject of his short program. Extremely frustrating. And it looks like no-one was recording so we're not going to get any videos of even The Lion King. Even MORE frustrating!

Our intrepid Glacier Falls PBP poster, Lenny, alas reported that he skated to a Queen medley for his FS.

I share your pain.:(
