Patrick Chan

I thought the same thing. Not sure what he was/is doing there, if he is there. Even though it would be a great place to try out his new short program.

According to the USFSA, "Champs Camp is performance based. Athletes perform their short program and free skate programs (ice dancing teams: short and free dances) in a simulated competition environment. The camp also included technical feedback sessions, pre-participation physical exams, mental training sessions and nutrition seminars. Primary coaches of an athlete assigned to a 2016 Grand Prix Series event are required to attend."

My initial thought was that Patrick got an invite due to his coach (since she is American), or that maybe he got invited to speak at the camp.
Oh thank you! I had no idea they actually skate in there too, wow. :)

I seriously doubt Patrick was in the US Champ Camp in any capacity.

Agree.
Even if I were willing to accept the premise that Patrick was in Colorado Springs, I can imagine reasons for him to be there that have nothing to do directly with Champs Camp.

If he has remained on cordial terms with Christy Krall and/or Eddie Shipstad, maybe Patrick is visiting one or both of them.
Not necessarily to get coaching from them ... maybe to pick their brains for big-picture advice on his preparation for 2018.

And if/if/if Patrick were in Colorado Springs, potentially he could have scheduled similar conversations with coaches who themselves are visiting Colorado Springs (Champs Camp being the reason in their cases). Frank Carroll, Raf Arutunian, for example ....perhaps even Mr. Nicks?? A chance for Patrick to kill several birds of that type with one stone, so to speak, if he were so inclined.

Another scenario could be related to Christy and Tom Z's annual World Arena summer camp for young skaters -- with the likes of Max Aaron, Mirai Nagasu, Alexa and Chris Knierim, and Rachael Flatt assisting with the coaching. This year's summer camp happened to overlap with Champs Camp. Who knows, maybe Christy asked Patrick to be one of the coaches this year??

All of the above is just my speculation, of course.
But the idea of Patrick being officially involved in Champs Camp is even wilder speculation, IMO.

Ice Coverage, if you read in the tweet conversation, someone asked who she met, and Dyon mentions Patrick by name:

"@KeShonWilliams0 I met Meryl and Charlie the Shibutanis and Patrick Chan."

At first I thought maybe she confused Patrick with somebody else, but I wondered what occasion would bring the five champions together. Upon checking Meryl and Charlie and the Shibutani's Twitter timelines, that's where I found out that Maia and Alex were going to the Champs camp, and Maia also tweeted that they visited the World FS Museum and Hall of Fame that day, which is in Colorado Springs. Hence, the "huge leap".

It's possible that they were all at the airport together and were traveling to different destinations, since I don't know where Dyon is located. What other event or occasion happened around 8/19 that would place all 5 skaters together?

*Update - mystery solved - see post #6008 below.

.. Well, I did see this tweet from a skater who said she saw him with the Shibutanis and Davis/White on 8/19. ...

vivley, my apology that I did not delete the first part of my post quickly enough ;).

My computer has been acting strange (freezing up, etc.) ... and as an example of the strangeness, the first time that I clicked on your link, all that showed up on my screen was the original tweet that referred to "5 Olympians." What did not show up are the query from K Daddy as to who and the reply tweet listing their five names.

Thus my initial reaction of "a huge leap."
But after I went ahead and hit "Submit" on my post, my curiosity led me to start clicking around to look for anything else from the original tweeter. Only then was I able to find the reply tweet with Patrick's name.

And as soon as I discovered the reply tweet, of course I sheepishly realized that my reaction of "a huge leap" had been (unbeknownst to me) without basis.
I immediately went back to edit my post ... with my computer freezing/hiccupping along the way.
Anyway, I clearly was too slow to make the deletion before you read my post.

I do think that it is a plausible scenario that all five Olympians could have been at the airport in Detroit or Denver.

But if they really were in Colorado Springs together ... another amusing-to-me fantasy-only "possibility" (again, strictly fantasy) is that perhaps  Patrick was a decoy-of-sorts related to Meryl and Charlie going to Champs Camp.
For those who don't know:
Every year, USFS surprises the Champs Camp skaters with a major keynote speaker (such as Wylie, Kwan, Hamilton) ... whose identity is kept secret until the moment of the speech. Sometimes USFS social media has made a thing of building suspense before the big reveal of who the speaker is.
This year, Meryl and Charlie were the keynote speakers. So if (as in years past) they were supposed to be a surprise -- even for their good friends the Shibs -- I am ROFLing as my over-active imagination runs wild and I envision USFS hiring Patrick to travel with Meryl and Charlie and supplying those three with a fake reason  as to why they needed to be in Colorado Springs together  .... a fake reason that would be the furthest thing from the truth of M/C's surprise appearance at Champs Camp.

Could a trip to Colorado Springs be for high altitude training? Patrick has about a week until Skate Canada high performance camp.

Haha, no problem. We are all just speculating here. You have every right to be skeptical. I went back and re-read my first tweet about all this, and it was just a question about whether he went to Co. Springs, not a definite leap.

Who knows? Maybe Dyon meant that she met all five of them together at some past event. However, usually people tweet things that happen to them right away as it happens. Otherwise, they would say something like, "I met them yesterday, or last year, etc." *Update - mystery solved - see post #6008 below.

Well, I didn't mean to take the discussion off into a tangent. So far I haven't seen any other official word on Kathy's resignation, so we may not hear until tomorrow. The latest developments, plus Patrick's silence makes everything an anxious mystery.

Now Dyon's statement about seeing the 5 Olympian makes sense. Meryl/Charlie and Alex/Maia all train at the Arctic Edge Arena in Canton, Michigan.

*confusion intensifies* :scratch2:

Was that announcement about moving to Vancouver premature to drum up hype about the new school? Or have the logistics just not worked out with Patrick and Kathy, leading him to sticking around Detroit but splitting with her?

I feel like he should recruit some coach in Ontario and just come back to The Granite Club. Get Skate Canada to line up someone trustworthy and willing to meet his needs. And have some of that good home cooking.

Maybe things didn't work out due to the Vancouver skating club, as VB had suggested. One thing that did strike me about that GTR car review video was how casual and at home Patrick sounded. When he said to stay tuned for a 1,300 horsepower demonstration, I was thinking, "what do you mean?! You'll be in Vancouver - how are you going to do another video?"

As for Ontario, he did say he wanted to escape Toronto. I don't know how willing he would be to go back to the Granite Club. But whatever happens, I hope he finds someone good for him quickly.

i am building an ice rink in my living room so he can train in my apt ;) music included ;) played live by me. :)

yes.. there seems to be some things that will be revealed later ;) in the meantime, i am not sure I want patrick to drive a crazy fast car... i was so scared when i saw the video... hahahahahaha but i couldn't stop watching ;)

Who in Vancouver could coach him to get to where he needs to be? Perhaps Joanne McLeod? Would he import someone?

I imagine him moving to Russia to work with Mishin and then he can go mano a mano daily with Plushy (if the latter isn't busy doing Snow King or being a generally fabulous superstar). Naaaahhh

My goodness, he looks thin. I came here for some rational speculation and looks like I got it! So he's training in Canton right now, that's good. I am not and have never been in the "he needs a real coach" boat. Patrick knows what he needs. I just want him to be happy and keep himself on an even keel. I hope the split with Kathy was amicable and mutual.

I had to join the two tropical fruits in giving you a thumbsup. ;)

Yes Patrick seems happy and relaxed these days, quite a contrast to his depression and pondering quitting the sport when Krall quit him. I figure there wasn't the drama trauma leading up to Krall's resignation this time around. I hoping he will stay happy and relaxed through the next Olympics.

AFAIK there are no longer any competitive skaters at Granite.
