Deniss Vasiljevs

What a great news to hear! The announcement is also eloquently written and thoughtful as well. I wish all the best for Deniss.

He must have a great sponsor, living& training in Switzerland is not cheap.

He just had a crowdfunding campaign which should help quite a bit. And I have no idea about Stephane's fees, but he isn't an established coach of high level skaters (yet), so perhaps he is a bit cheaper than some other well-known coaches. In any case, I'm sure they have worked out those details together.

I don't think Stephane's fee covers the ice, off ice training, choreo classes, medical insurance, etc, etc.

no more cutesiness of him training with Yulia :sad21:

but good for Deniss I guess. Hopefully he reaches his goals this season:clap:

I think it's not always easy for Russian coaches to keep foreign skaters when they get to a certain level (in terms of pushback from the Russian fed), so maybe that played a role as well.
That's a good point, it didn't occur to me initially. I am actually so incredibly torn right now, 50% of me is over the moon with joy, and 50% of me is so totally gutted. I have said this before but I am a long time crazed fan of Mr. Urmanov since before he won the Olympic gold back in 1994!! But Stèphane is also one of my biggest all time loves in the skating world. Both Stèphane and Deniss have an extraordinary intuitive feeling to music, and the way they move, probably Stèphane sees a bit of himself in Deniss (Stèph was about Deniss' age when I first saw him and he captivated me at once!)

But it's great that Deniss has been blessed with several wonderful mentors already in his young career.
Can't wait to see Stephane with him in the kiss and cry, hopefully :)
I can't agree more!!! :luv17:

Lambiel's skating school includes all of that, except medical insurance. I don't know if Stephane's fee is separate from everything else, or Deniss simply pays to the school - in all honesty, I have no idea how these things work. Anyway, see what silverfoxes wrote in response to you.

I am sure Stèphane fully knows the financial situation of Deniss. His crowd funding campaign was in full swing when he went to Ice Legends, and if I remember correctly also when he made the first trip to work with Stèphane in Switzerland in May. So I am sure they have discussed it and arranged everything before coming to an agreement.

Jumps, spins, artistry, choreography -- Stephane can teach it all! Deniss is a lucky (and very talented!) guy. This will be an awesome partnership.

I would love to partake in the FB chat, but it's quite inconvenient for my time zone. Well, at least there should be a transcript afterward.

Only time will tell if Stephane is the better coach for Deniss in terms of results, but one thing that seems for sure is that they communicate well and speak a similar artistic language. From the first time I saw Deniss on the JGP, I was reminded of a young Stephane in his musicality and spinning talent. I'm hoping Stephane can teach him the tricks to all of his spins. :) Perhaps his influence will help Deniss get more opportunities to participate in major ice shows, as well.

edit - I just saw this:

Artistika Magazine ‏@ArtistikaMag

Really enjoyed all the questions and answers. I am a little surprised that Deniss took the initiative to ask Stephane to coach him, although it makes sense...I can't imagine Stephane trying to steal someone else's student away. But I get the impression that Deniss is extremely ambitious and not afraid to go for what he wants. Also, with Stephane I know he will be the #1 star student, while I think Yulia is understandably Urmanov's main priority. Not saying he didn't get enough attention there because I have no idea, but maybe he wanted to be someone's priority #1 and there's nothing wrong with that, especially since he and Stephane have such a great rapport.

Ok...what song that came out in 1968 could he be using for his SP?

"In a Gadda Da Vida" by Iron Butterfly
"What a Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong
Probably not but I personally wouldn't mind either

haha my guess at the song drew a blank, immediately snubbed by Deniss himself :palmf: It was so exciting to have them directly answer my questions, and I am so grateful that they took the time for the fans!!!
I do think things must have changed in some way for him to grow as he wished in Sochi. And I am so grateful also that Stèphane decided to commit himself so much so to pass up on his Kings on Ice tour to accompany Deniss to Rostelecom. Peter and Salome's involvement will be a great help, too! Also glad that despite his busy schedule he is still planning to skate in shows. I am already feeling plenty of positive vibes for this team!

Well, I hope we won't have to wait until Rostelecom to find out his programs. Hopefully the ISU bio will be updated before then. :)

Here is the Q&A Deniss did with Artistika Magazine:

http://artistika-2.instantmagazine.com/artistika-magazine/no-2/#!/qa-deniss-vassiljevs

Not a ton of new info, but once again I'm thoroughly impressed by his ambition and his clear goals. He wants to become even better than Daisuke and Stephane. ;) Well, in my opinion he has just as much raw talent as those two did at 17, if not more - and I happen to agree with him that they are two of the greatest of all time.
