Patrick Chan

Eladj and Keegan are substitutes at Finlandia. That means that are quota at the Challenger Series, right?
Finlandia isn't the end of the series as I understand it.

Skate Canada is not currently listing assignments for the November Challenger events -- Warsaw Cup, Tallinn Trophy and Golden Spin of Zagreb. As well, the links to entries from the ISU pages for these 3 have blank pages at this point.

These aren't events that Canadians customarily participate in, but they are listed as part of the series. Lubov and Dylan went to Warsaw to get their TES the first year they were together.

I suggest we keep this thread as Patrick's fan fest for all his fans from all over the world.

Discussion of other Canadian skaters can be conducted at their individual or collective threads or a new one may be started.

uhm VB, mango requested clearance for a Canadian fest on Saturday and graciously offers to moderate it.

No response on that as yet, but it's been a busy weekend. May be that we'll need to set something up on the edge...

But folks encouraged me to bring the energy here for a few more days. Understand that fans will want to ramp up for Finlandia and don't want to dampen that...

Fan threads are very specific in their raison d'etre and scope, especially the Patrick Chan thread which was the first and original fan thread kindly set up as a haven for his beleaguered fans. We really should value the privilege and the license. We have no right to lend the space.

While waiting for a new fan thread, a new thread can be easily started in The Edge. (God knows there have been totally frivolous threads opened all the time.) There are also fan threads for Kevin, Eladj, Canadian Men, Ladies, etc. where their fans would like to engage in discussions concerning them.

As for ramping up Finlandia, there is the Finlandia thread.

I'm just explaining the forum guidelines and customs as well as taking non-Canadian Patrick fans into consideration, including lurkers.

The topic of conversation on this forum is ever changing. And look, we are at 450 pages on this thread! :hap10:

Patrick must be in Helsinki now. Eric twitted there.

Here's a big banner for Finlandia on a bridge in Espoo: (photo)

Don't know if you all saw this photo of Patrick with a fan (posted 3 weeks ago):

It looks like he was at a Chinese restaurant...

Thread drifts happen all the time, some of them are really fun stuff, and that is evident on this thread. We have enjoyed all kinds of conversations but we always come back to Patrick. However, on most threads, when another topic takes over the conversation, often a new thread is opened for the interested posters to further the discussion. This is a dedicated thread and while it's natural to drift to other topics from time to time, it's a different matter to have a planned subject to occupy the thread for a few days, and possibly more if the new fan thread is not approved. It is a worthwhile subject and should be open for all interested parties to take part in the discussion instead of being in this private place for Patrick fans, some of whom are not so interested in the off topic whereas other interested skating fans do not come here.

I am not against changing conversations and subjects unrelated to Patrick from time to time. Heck, I do that all the time too. And I too am interested in this new discussion. But a non Patrick centred subject being purposely decided to be discussed should have its own place.

As a fan who has been here since the thread opened, I truly treasure this place and its integrity. This is not against anybody or the topic, just a matter of keeping this place for its intended and on going purpose.

just to clarify :)

nobody is trying to turn this fan fest into something else ;) it will remain Patrick's dedicated space ;)

Some of us want to discuss Canadian skaters and while we wait for a dedicated thread about this in the fan fest section (because honestly, every time we praise our skaters, we have some of the usual culprits raining on our Canadian parade in the Edge), the conversation may have continued. I don't think it was anyone's intention to deviate from Patrick here.

I think Mango's request should be accepted in the fan fest as after all, there is a Team Japan Skater thread, so a precedent has been made or at least tolerated ;)

Let's get this thread to 500 pages and my post count to 5000 :)

I have taken care of the situation by taking up 4everchan's idea about a thread in The Edge. I like the idea of a seasonal discussion because this is the pre-Olympic season, and we should really have another for the Olympic season. You may discuss Patrick there as well. I'd like to hear more about Chiddy all over this forum. :)

I didn't realize the men's event at Finlandia starts on Saturday. I thought it'd be Friday. We have to wait even longer to see Patrick! :sad4: Men's SP is 2 PM Finnish time on Saturday and FS is 12:30 PM on Sunday. I am a bit worried about how Patrick will fare against Nathan Chen but only in the TES. Let's see how that 4S goes.

Also, we may see photos and videos of Patrick in practice. Hope this helps!

My bad! I clearly wrote the right stuff in detailing the schedule. Late night typing, man. I am clearly not a pianist.

The practices are not open to the public, so I hope the media shows up in droves. Get some nice action shots of Chiddy.
