Absolutely don't want to start a cross thread discussion, but do want to observe that there is something darn odd about how Canadians don't seem to expect much from our women in singles...
I was grumbling about the lack of attention to Kaetlyn Osmond in CBC's coverage this weekend below. And now we see that US commentators have given her more attention, at least in terms of tweets and observations, than Canadian ones.
No one can argue that ladies has been the discipline where Canada has relatively underperformed, and that given the large numbers of girls that take up skating, we have not made the most of our female talent pool. But does that mean that there isn't a sports story to be told ...???
I would LOVE for them to do a Kaetlyn story, similar to the podcast from last week that was honest and real and talked about coming back after injury and dealing with the psychology of the sport. Also, a feature on her parents and good old Marystown, NF. Tired of same old from CBC, namely the Tessa and Scott show, and the PJ and Pooh bear "stuff". Ho-hum.
Equally deserving, Gabby and Alaine would be wonderful additions! How about Joannie and Med School even? Or maybe more on Nick Nadeau (the Japanese girls are going to love him) and how about our newest medalist Keegan Messing...from Alaska to Alberta, is it?
