Even though I still don't read more into that event, I also think they might be hinting at something here considering how close Kenji is to some skaters and especially to Daisuke. He's probably the skater he knows most about. But then again I'm convinced he wouldn't spill anything behind the scenes that could potentially place his close friend or anyone else in an awkward situation. In the end most of the stuff in YoI is still subtle enough and basically a mash-up of so many real-life events, that it can always be interpreted in many ways and that's a good thing.

Having said that, seeing that this was closely inspired by reality, I'm dying to know what else might've happened at those after-banquet parties Johnny was hinting at. Wow, he is so cruel with his suggestive comments. :devil:

Johnny seems to be projecting many of his own experiences onto the characters. It seems, that he sees aspects of himself in all of the main protagonists and even reflections of his past in Victuuri. I seriously hope he's ok. lol

Well Johnny said it, hotel room danceoffs were a thing among most of them. Even if Kenji was inspired by Daisuke's tales from Sochi, nobody can single him out. I've seen plenty pictures of him partying so at this point I'm not doubting anything :laugh:
 
Okay, I'm starting to feel like I'm missing out on something here :biggrin: Finally going to dive in and try to watch these over the holidays! I've found links to the original show with subtitles, as well as an English dub. Is either one preferable, or does it not matter?
 
In anime, subs v. dubs is a real debate, haha. I almost always prefer subs myself but dubs allows you to watch without having to read and possibly miss something.
 
I'm preferring the subs at the moment because I wouldn't know where to watch the dub, but also because at least the subs are up to date, whereas the dubbed episodes are behind.
 
Reeeeeally late and I haven't read the new comments but I just want to complain(?) how on earth did Yurio get a wr with that much travel on the spins?????

In this anime everyone travel on spins. I don't know if creators know it looks like all skaters are doing it wrong.

Perhaps it wasn't travel on the spins but more like the "camera" (or rather, our POV) was moving around him, giving the impression of him traveling.

That too, but the animation shows moving on ice. Not just different camera angles. I was really suprised first time they showed spin, but then they did it again, and again. All skaters there are showed as moving across ice doing spin (looks like some weird twizzle). No idea why they do that, it would be easier to have them in one place. Not to mnetion it looks like all of them are making mistake...

There is nothing to debate! Dubs, with very few exceptions, are horrid. It has to be subs! ;-D

Japanese voice actors are generally excellent, some of them become famous and popular in their own right. And you get the "proper" anime mannerisms, emotions, culture, style, cliches etc. You may even learn a little Japanese.

English voice actors are usually less than impressive in dubbed anime, except for big-budget movies... but the worst problem is the Western insistance that voices must exactly match onscreen mouth movements. This leads... to... strangely stilted... speech interspersed... with... otherthingsspokentooquickly... and... some peculiar phrasing and word choices. It just sounds awful and unnatural, and ruins the feel of the show... (Japanese don't care so much, there are often mismatches but it doesn't matter).

After this week's finale, we can all give our weak hearts a nice rest from all the fan service...before gorging our souls on Christmas Day with food, and alcohol on New Years. 😂
