Patrick Chan

i think it's for Canadians only... (CBC)..

but it's not really that interesting... at least to me HAHA

1) Eric says he always loved music... he got up to a second year of his degree (bachelors) but stopped when he teamed up with Meagan
2) Eric says Patrick heard him play that song and loved it... so Eric sent him the tracks and Patrick's team decided to use it for the FP
3) Eric says he wants to return to music after his skating career is done.
4) Eric's dream is to be an Oscar winning film scorer.

I can´t see it

2) Eric says Patrick heard him play that song and loved it... so Eric sent him the tracks and Patrick's team decided to use it for the FP

"There was a grand piano in the hotel we were staying and I started playing. He kind of wondered over and said what is this and I was like this is one of the songs I wrote. He was like " no way. It's so pretty. I'd like to skate to this." I thought he was kind of joking. I sent him my idea the next day and about 2 1/2 weeks later, I got a text message saying we are going to use it for the free program. I was just........ it was probably similar to winning Worlds. I mean, to have a skater with the profile and the talent of Patrick to skate to one of my songs, for him to just bring it to life, is...... I just feel so lucky. I feel a lot more involved in his skating now, I always appreciated his skating but now when I watch it, I really do feel like I'm out there with him. It's a really interesting experience to be there to see him make a part of me come to life like that. I was at this high performance camp and when he went to skate, everybody was there watching. We had a lot of officials and specialists there. I felt extremely insecure. As much as Meagan and I are athletes and especially figure skaters, we put ourselves out there on the ice, in a sport that's very subjective, and, you know, is judged, so people can form opinions about it. No matter how beautiful a piece is, there's going to be somebody that doesn't like like it and I really put this deep part of my soul out there. It's kind of scary because I know that there will be people out there that will be like this is so boring, that he's probably got no talent in music, he should just give up. But music is going to be a huge part of my life after skating. I'd love to go back to finish my music degree and pursue music the same way and on the same level I pursue skating."

eta I love the video of Patrick skating in this part of the interview, in a light grey blue top, with a low and close up perspective.

I was wondering..........? :scratch2: Is anyone here still in the "holiday mood"? :)

Trying to maintain it, but like 4everchan, quite a bit busier than I thought I would be...

Thank you for the details, VB!

Tomorrow Patrick will be skating in the DSC Club's "Skate for Dreams" show (flyer). I hope we'll see some footage of his performance! :clapper:

Why does he seem to spin so much faster when he's in shows than in competition? :dance2:

A stand up vertical tight spin is the fastest and probably easiest to do. In competitions, Patrick does classic camel spins with perfect posture and the widest span, centred and fast, especially in contrast to how some skaters almost come to a standstill doing camel spin while others decrease the circumference with variations such as the doughnut version. His sit spins in competitions are beautiful and fast too, with required change foot and other variations. Well, Patrick himself calls the flying sit spin his signature move.

isn't it the butterfly he calls his signature move???

nobody does the fast vertical position at competitions because it's worth less... Patrick's camel spin is only a level 3 though.. .which sucks as it's so well-done with perfect and classic positions.... a silly donut would probably bring it to level 4... what kind of sport is that?

Thanks for the explanation, VB!

Here's a video of his performance tonight - unfortunately the video was muted  because he skated to Blackbird.

The landing on the triple lutz was interesting. I think it affected the spin he did afterwards. But over all, Patrick was beautiful as always. I loved his smile at the beginning!

A very silly, soulless one.

^^ i think Patrick deserves respect for not going cheap on his spins just to get levels.. he has always been like that... for instance, he could do his combo with 3lz-3t in the bonus time in the SP but he prefers doing the big 4t-3t combo despite earning less points...

many skaters opt for maxing out on everything, even if it doesn't fit the music... bielmann galore... silly donuts and what not :)

Patrick, you will 4ever be the best ;)

Thanks! m0001 :luv17:

The movements of Patrick's hands and fingers are just as good as his skating skills.

I was looking for the video where Patrick tells a bedtime story :) as blueberryhill inspired me to do ;) hehe

and instead I found this.... Patrick would have landed his first 4S 6 years ago... too bad he didn't include it back then ;)

Good find! I wonder why he didn't put it in at that time, since he said he was going to do it?

You can find the bedtime story video link on my PCSkatingfan.com site on the left column under "Latest Fun Videos". It's the last one on the list. It's so cute!
