Oh well Yuzuru hasn't skated clean LP for a while, he is on the losing side here. I have no doubt he won't give up in the free. What makes me mad is that he let himself be affected by the skating order again and again and again. I am really mad right now.
Even if he wins this competition, I am still mad cause he hasn't learned his lesson at all. It's not about winning this competition anymore. It's not Olympic yet. Frankly I don't even care about WC next month. What I am mad is that he hasn't learned a single bit.

Meoima, my friend. You're stressing too much :ghug: I mean I absolutely understand and to me it's frustrating that he trains so hard and then stupid things like the starting order can knock him off balance but I think it's just something we're going to have to accept as a weakness. He may genuinely not be able to overcome this. Not everything can be conquered, especially things that are partially psychological. I think he knows and his new relaxed and happy face is a way to try to combat this but it may just not work. So we adjust expectations and it wasn't that terrible today, it was still a decent skate.

Which is why I think it's important he does his best tomorrow. Personally I think it's time to conquer the thought that's he's an SP skater. That, I would appreciate more. He cannot rely on his short all the time to pull him through because the gap is closing. So he'd have learned something if he gave us a great free at least (winning or not in the end).
He just needs to get that to click in his head. And honestly, if he thinks he needs to YOLO something then do it! I don't even care if that causes him to lose, it's the fighting spirit that will matter tomorrow and going for it.
He should be his focused, intense self and fight for it! He can, we know he can.

oh you and your rational thinking :)

Guilty as charged!
I'm actually relieved he's learnt to joke about his mistakes. I'm pretty much sure he's very frustrated though - but self-irony is lovable.
OK, off to get my tea to get high on. If I persuade myself it's my favourite wine I might get roaringly drunk on that placebo...

sad about the popped sal but honestly really great quad loop and really great performance and interpretation. I actually thought it was the best he did so far this season!! He managed to stay in touch, even with the costly mistake he is only like 6 points behind Chen and 3points behind Shoma so I think it is feasible in the FS. I also think he prefers chasing than being chased!

It's not a bad day, it's his mentality and I am disappointed he hasn't learned.
This has happened from time to time. So if there is anything, he has to cope up with it over and over again.
I wish he will skate 2nd at WC and even 2nd next season. He has to learn. If not, it's over. He can't get the skate order he prefers always.

Isn't the 4S3T quite new for Yuzuru (since Worlds16)? Perhaps this will be like his 4S... Unstable now and later his most stable jump? Maybe I'm a bit too optimistic, but people seem to generally say that 4edge-combos are quite hard? Are a lot of the men doing them? Perhaps that's why it's taking a while...

If you watch programs of Brian Orser as a skater and then watch newer Javier programs you can definitely see that Javier is Brian's pupil. He looks almost like a clone, his whole body movements. I think he molded Javier after himself in a way. But Yuzuru remains to have his own style and doesn't look like Brian Orser 2.0. He does best when he skates to programs he likes. I think I read in this thread that Orser said that the programs this season aren't the real deal and not what he would've chosen, that the Olympic programs will be better. I totally disagree, I think that the combi of Let's go crazy and Hope and Legacy is the best Yuzuru had yet. I think Yuzuru's programs like Seimei and Hope and Legacy are so true to his own self and not what other people thought he should skate to. He will go his way, and I pray that we will see at least Hope and Legacy clean once before it gets chafted for something of 'better quality'.

I think Brian definitely sees more of himself, skating style, in Javi, and they do have a lot of similarities. I don't think Brian would have that much control over Yuzuru's program choices though, and he will just skate to whatever he feels is the best for him at the end of the day. I guess it was a wrong choice of word for me to use when I say that I felt like Brian was trying to 'make' Yuzuru take the 'Javi route'. What I meant was that it might be a choice for them as a team to try that route to see if it works for Yuzuru in more of a bigger picture way en route to finding the best way for him to peak before a competition. It'd be interesting to see what they decide to do in preparation for the FS.

Also, from icenetwork: Hanyu on Chen's score: "I didn’t know his score. I think Brian [Orser] (his coach) was trying to block it from me."

I wonder if knowing the score might have helped fire him up in the right way. I thought that the fact that Nathan was skating before him would be a good thing, but if he doesn't know the score anyway, then the order didn't really matter in that sense...

I do think they or Yuzuru himself is trying a different approach too, psychologically. His demeanor at this competition is different and seeing him joke about his mistake and score is surprisingly nice and refreshing to see. It is much better than seeing him totally crestfallen after a mistake. So maybe that's why I am not bothered for now at least.

It may work, it may not work. But at least he/they tried something different rather than keep repeating the same pattern where he psyche himself and overtrain thus burnt himself out mid-season and injured himself by the second half of the season. Winning aside, if he remains healthy by the end of the season, I would still say it is a fruitful approach. I don't think the skate was bad too, though it was also not his best.

Though 4Lo and 4S3T really need to coexist peacefully and be friends. They are not friends in both the SP and LP. If one shows up the other won't.

He has to learn. If not, it's over.
I'm gonna put down the bottle and jump on Fayruza's bandwagon now. You're way too doom and gloom, honey. He didn't cluster-bomb the entire performance, and it was only the short, so the competition is actually not over yet. It's a little too soon to bury his entire career.

Even though his 4S is spectacular in terms of heights and distance he normally get, the jump itself has really been teasing him around right? When 4S was a sole jump, it took him two seasons to pet it. Now he puts it into a combo and we all know how it goes:palmf:Kudos to 4lo for getting on the spot in such a short period, relatively:clapper:

What's the mistake in the 6 minutes warm up?

As far as I remember, he popped his 4S combo in the warm-up as well just as he was being introduced.

Edit: I am still not used to how fast this thread moves when it comes to replying in time.

Yes, that's my point but what I am trying to say is maybe it is not a question of having to learn. Maybe he can't. Maybe this one thing is simply bigger than him. It happens. I really think he knows. I think his new 'face' is a way of trying to cope with pressures, including skating order. I am not sure that this is smart, I think he is an intense person but if he's trying, I can't fault him even if it didn't work.

I agree he can't get the order he wants every time and he often doesn't. But maybe this is it, we may have found something Yuzuru can't do. And maybe pushing through the barrier that is the free skate will help balance this.

Personally I think a far bigger problem would be constantly relying on his short program; he needs to skate the free at full tilt too. And this, this is a fantastic chance to break through. I think he's had long-standing FS problems. Sochi went badly, then Boston happened and this is ideal to give him a positive notch. Hey, in the end, it might help with the initial problem of skating order. Hang in there, it's not over yet! He's very much still in this fight because he's trying. As long as he is trying, there's hope!

Yes, I think he's definitely trying a different approach mentally but I am just not sure that it works for him. He's an intense person. I love seeing him happy and not crestfallen so I get really conflicted about this. If he could somehow combine the intensity and then shrug that off enough to not let it eat at him that he can be like he was now in the K&C, I think that'd be perfect combination for performance/post-performance but if wishes were horses ... and this may still work out ultimately, we'll see. To me, that FS frankly will matter far more in the psychology department, than the SP.

I think the 4S is jealous. It's the older child that now has to co-exist with the new baby and it's throwing a tanty of epic proportions. And the new baby just does not want to share because it doesn't know better so it screams when the 4S gets a bit of attention. We just need to wait a bit for them to grow up ... or put 4S in a corner and let the twin 4Lo play a bit too

Maybe we should scold both 4Lo and 4S and tell them to be more like the older child, 4T and 3A, who could still coexist peacefully with the new kids on the block :roll5:
4S can play well with both 4T and 3A and so does 4Lo. I am sad that 4Lo and 4S did not yet get along until now :sad21:
or else their dad would not let them play with each other again and he would make 4Lo play with 4T :dev2:
