OH, I love the taiko drums. There does not even have to be instrumental music with them. I think it would be embraced by everyone, east or west, and he could pull it off.

:agree2:
Ideally, he'd skate to just taiko. There is no way that doesn't blow the roof off the arena. I mean, for example
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qupswFhMCxI
or
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C7HL5wYqAbU
But there'd need to be a better piece where there'd be a quieter part alternating with this. This is why I suggested other instruments too, Japanese do have those mixes, but seriously that darn bass from those drums would be shaking the judges in their seats!
(Seriously, if you can hear this live, go, go as fast as you can.)

If that is not dramatic, then I don't know what is

I'm OK with the boob skirt. Heck, he can wear an actual skirt to the Olympics. Romeo and Juliet, on the other hand...

Great examples (the drums, not Prokofiev). It would be awesome. I think the timing would be good for his jumps too. They say that is a big issue for him, but I think this would work. I hope this is something they're considering, especially if they are thinking Japanese again. It's hard not to love it as a concept for him.

Jeff! Calling Jeff! If you are looking for sp music for Yuzu, consider this kind...

He didn't skate to classical LP since Sarastre in 2011, I hope he gets one for Olympics :luv17:

I think if Brian straight up says to him 'if you want that 2nd Olympic gold medal you need to have to play safe' he'll probably go with it- I mean it is his lifelong dream and he learnt a bit of a lesson from his LP in Sochi

Yes let's hope that Yuzuru will listen to the advice of his coaches Brian Orser, Jeff, Tracy, they love him and they know better music for his Free program and Short program for the Olympic. Maybe those are the last competition programs for him and for us his fans. We know that he likes to listen to pop music, maybe only Japanese music, for his enjoyment. He choose his music to skate to also for the pleasure of the audience at large and for judges too. Judges are mostly from Europe, America, not only from Asia. For two years now, he skates to Japanese music, it is time to skate to new music.

How about a piece of classical music like Chopin, Beethoven, Mozart...Or even a warhorse like POTO, Romeo & Juliet or anything different ? I like Seimei because it is special, but I don't like Hope and Legacy, too one note, too monotonous . It does not speak to me, does not have a story to tell. Please don't keep Hope and Legacy for next year. There are plenty of musics that are good to skate too. He can skate to Japanese music all he wants in Exhibition and shows, as professional skater. Please Tatiana send him another CD of beautiful music like The Swan Notte ..to skate to.
I say this as a person from Asian origine, live in North America and his fan for many years.

blech. CBC showed 4CC and the commentary by Kurt and David Pelletier was meh. I don't think they knew what happened in the sp or what was actually planned in the programs.

Kurt mistakenly thought Yuzu had 5 quads planned. They were critical of Patrick, Yuzu, and Nathan, but were the most positive towards Shoma. Kurt seems to really like Shoma. They felt here that he had quads in his program, as opposed to it being a quad program and that he really filled the rink despite his small stature. For Patrick it was many little things, ie. sameness in his music choices. They said it is hard to tell where Patrick stacks up because we haven't seen his program done cleanly against the top guys and he has to stop making errors on the easy 3 jumps. David said his skating is still the international standard for men, though. For Yuzu it was that this program didn't grab emotionally and something had to give in order to get all the quads done, so in this case it was performance. David said he was able to do quads at the 4 minute mark of his program he was so well trained and then Kurt pointed out he had asthma and then David was even more impressed. They wondered if he was so jubilant in the KNC because he thought he'd won. For Nathan, they said he will only get better because Kurt thought his movements were because felt the music, rather than some choreo telling him to do something. He also said he thought Nathan could only do a 3A because he rotates fast, and that he hasn't really learned how to do it. They praised Nathan for his ability to compete so well at his age, and of course these younger guys can do these quads because they grew up knowing they had to do them. David acknowledged all the usual criticisms towards him, but said that it still did not take away from his enjoyment. He was emotionally involved anyway, for a different reason.

Closing thoughts included Patrick having to go home and focus on what he could do well as opposed to trying to catch up to what the other guys are doing. For Yuzu it was to go home and figure out what to do next (or something like how to beat Nathan), I can't remember. David said that it was important for the other guys to not let Nathan run away with the short program because it has 4L and 4F in it etc., blah, blah. They said 3 jumps are kind of filler jumps now.

I was kind of disappointed in their commentary, but in a way it was fair too. They figured 5 quads might be the new normal and that performances/programs are currently suffering as a result, but that in a couple of years it will even out when the top guys figure out how to include everything again without making sacrifices.

Edit to add: they were saying many positive things about everyone too. It wasn't like someone had peed in their cornflakes or anything, they just weren't gushing over everything.

Thank you for your summary :agree:

Having seen the Yuzuru Hanyu CBC part on YoutTube I think the commentators are all being the definition of (over)-reactionary figure skating-fans ;), I mean if they kept themselves informed they would have been more exited for Yuzu's program, he improvised a 4T-2T and yolo-3A (at the last minute) I mean for God's sake  :noshake: of course the program would suffer a bit due to it. David(?) was quite impressed with Yuzuru though, they all seemed generally I think. Maybe they are a bit tired of the extreme quad-ness generally though.

Of course they have a point in that the programs are lacking a bit due to the number of quads, that is what is happening with Nathan and Shoma (I feel I'm bashing them a bit, so I would also like to say that Nathan is an impressive guy and it is pretty cool with someone with a consistent 4lz :) and Shoma's not my cup of tea, but his sp last year was very fun and I can understand why others like him, he also has nice edge-work I think if only he would use it more) but going all "well maybe this is just how fs is going to be" "it will take some years perhaps to even it out" I think is going a little overboard. Patrick and Javier can still score big with their three quads, Yuzuru's programs are still very full, of course he hasn't nailed his free skate yet, but to judge all of fs based on this one competition and performance....hmmm :drama:

Didn't Kurt quite like Yuzuru's LP at NHK as well? I remember him complementing his calmness (even due to his 4 planned quads), which I did take to mean something along the lines of a compliment to Yuzuru still managing to commit to the program?

Yep, he said it was a patient program. Mentioned how calm and relaxed despite the 4 planned quad. I guess that opinion is out the window lol. :o

I mean Andi P. continuously saying how unusual it was for Yuzuru that he was in fourth place after the short in Skate Canada just cracks me up :laugh2:

I do think though that she has gotten the unthankful job of being the one to keep the discussion relevant for Canadians, you know by mentioning Yuzuru in connection to Skate Canada and Patrick Chan - so I'm sympathetic ;)

The only way of coping I think with commentators is going to have to learn Italian or perhaps Chinese or Russian, at least that's what I'm going to do - to duolingo I go, wish me luck  (:palmf:)

Your discussions about PCS for Seimei versus for H&L made me want to gatter all the PCS data till now for these programs so here we go. Feel free to analyze it as you want since i'm not a math person let my bio/med self be.

I added a quick description of the errors committed at each particular performance (any landing that received negative GOE, pops, falls and underrotations) since we need to know which type of performance is being judged we all know that PCS is affected by TES after all. Didn't include Seimei at Nationals because I made it for international competitions only, since one of the topics here was international reception of both etc.

If there's any error feel free to correct anything.

I'm no expert in stats but in my opinion there's no big difference in PCS between them overall, with the exception of the two WRs of course but we didn't see a clean H&L yet.

Also, I'll add that H&L is my favourite free program from him to date.

and yes I don't know how to add a proper table here.

Well, I guess some days you like something and some days you don't. I just think both Kurt and David didn't seem to like anything too much today. I'll wait to watch World's and see what they think then.

I mean if we are suggesting music I absolutely love this: https://youtu.be/_VONMkKkdf4?t=1m48s - I have cut to where the "drama" really begins so plz try it, but the whole piece is AMAZING. It is subtle, dramatic, emotional and just... I can't :palmf:

Of course it is done by Laurine already, but I would imagine a bit of a different cut of it - a bit more of the emotional intensity for Yuzuru perhaps . I'm including a link to Laurine's performance of it (the b.esp guys love it and she's also upped the tech for it so I'm hoping for great things for Worlds for her and the program https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PD15HYNkV1c)

edited because I forgot the last (bracket) which is unforgivable, I will just let myself out - I'm so so sorry

When was the last time NBC has shown live figure skating for 4CC!

Rafael asked Yuzuru if he could sign for him, and told us around him who looked curious:" What? I am his fan!"

This is pretty cute, haha

Kiss & Cry:
Brian: Boy, that axel at the end, just another (?)
Yuzu: I was thinking about sal before the first axel because I sometimes did quad sal in the first axel spot but i feel a little tight...stiff so i'm doing 3A+3T and then i'm feeling good so i'm doing the quad toe.

So he was thinking about doing a YOLO quad sal after he popped the quad sal combo? :laugh2:

https://twitter.com/tyugaeri/status/833222677317890048

I didn't catch his talk with Brian at the end previously. It sounds like he wanted to do 4Sal after the first 4T (where his first 3A was), but he felt stiff and didn't do it. But after the 3A-3T, he felt good and so did the 4T. So much thinking on the fly.

I don't think any JPN men will be skating to Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence in the near future. I love the piece though.

I don't think you meant anything bad in using "JPN," as you are posting in Yuzuru's fanfest, but it is generally viewed as a disparaging term for the Japanese and should be avoided. http://www.learnersdictionary.com/definition/JPN

:agree2: If he does it clean I suspect it might become my favourit ever, I really really want to se it as intended :tantrum:

I absolutely loved your music suggestion. I can see Yuzuru doing it and bringing the intensity required because I think that if the skater doesn't the program would fall flat. It would need an innovative music cut though, or mixing two pieces by the same composer, otherwise I think it would be repetitive for a long program.

Haha  Thank you, we seem to have similar taste :agree: I do love the piece . I think you are completely right as well :agree2:, would be good with a cut to something with possibly the same guy (Ludovico Einaudi) to make it more eventful. The emotional intensity in the piece that manages to be subtle at the same time just kills me
