you know, i could be asking you to make one for today's performance because one could argue her 3lz was better today than at 4cc no?

Kaetlyn's lutz is always at least a !, sometimes an e. Today it was probably a !. The judges are probably too smitten with the enormous height and running edge to care.

Just looked at protocols. Med's scores so inflated. A 10 from one judge on performance? Seriously? And on that shaky first spin, positive GOE? Med is going to win. The other podium spots are up for grabs.

I am still on a high from the CAN ladies finally being judged for what they put out there and not held behind the top contenders. Even though a few of the top contenders were kept too close for comfort, thanks to the TEC caller! As mentioned if Ashley had been called and marked by what she did today she would not be so close to the podium. Lets just hope that the caller is as easy on the CAN ladies in the FS and that those who are fine with Karen and Ashley getting saved will also be as kind to Kaetlyn and/or Gabby if they get a boost form the judges.

Competing against the likes of Ashley Wagner and Gracie Gold makes skaters better. Evgenia was third to Gracie last year in the SP. This year she's on top. She even cited Ashley as an inspiration in the press conference (if I heard the translation correctly).

So I guess the big question for U.S. fans is, can Ashley finish high enough to help Karen out in the race for three spots?

Next question: How did Canadian ladies get so good so quick?

For the US ladies, I think its the other way around. I'm sure Ashley will hold it together well enough, but can Karen?

Was she? because i did notice that she has watered down the choreography quite a bit: no more illusion at the beginning of the program, less transitions on the solo jump (that's required) and the 2a, no split jump at the end of the program,...

I do agree with the judges that her teammate Xiangning was better here. (though to me she deserved at least a 60)

I agree with them that Xiangning was better, but only by a hair. If X deserved a 60, Z should have been somewhere in the 59s, no? I think her score was criminally low. She skated with such impeccable artistry. It's a very difficult program in that respect and I think she nailed it today.

That 3L is perfect. The transitions leading into it and out of it are exceedingly difficult. Few men do 3L's as tough as that, and no ladies (except maybe some of the younger Russian girls) can even begin to attempt a 3L like that.

I'd like it better if it were a 3F. And not sure it is that much better than Irina's multiple 3-turns into her 3loop.

I think that Gabby will be able to handle skating after Evgenia. She did well at Canadian Nats skating after Kaetlyn's huge scores and I know how badly she wanted to win there.

Kaetlyn skating last :disapp: Anna is in good place. Dabin and Zijun (in first group, fcking bye judges) both are skating first :hopelessness:

She was asked about it in the press conference. I haven't watched it yet, but Charlie White tweeted her response:

She said she loves skating last, and practices those situations at home-in case you missed it!

Definite flutz there, although today it looked like she was on the flat of the blade (hard to tell from the replay angles). I think she's worked hard to fix it, and clearly the tech caller was being lenient today (for everyone).

Note that not a single "e" call was made... only one ! (Galustyan in 23rd). Although it's the short and skaters tend to avoid jumps that might get an edge call. Still, somewhere Shin Amano is shaking his head in disapproval.

If I get a chance I'll take a look at the top few skaters and make a video of some good HD quality videos appear. I have a busy adventurous day of being outside in the sun first.

I do expect Kaetlyn's jumps to look better too but angle is EVERYTHING on those videos.

I stood and watched the last two groups of this tiring show at home. I think I was more nervous than the skaters themselves.

Evgenia will win again. She looked very nervous in the SP, but I am sure she will skate with more ease & confidence in the FS. What a fierce & awesome competitor! :thumbsup: If Kaetlyn and Gabby can deliver in the LP, Anna will have no chance of making the podium, I think.

The Japanese ladies need to pull out all the stops if they want a chance at 3 spots next year. I'm not super confident in Wakaba's or Rika's chances of hitting a clean FS, and poor Mai! Maybe Wakaba can pull out a 3A - even if she URs, if she lands it, it's still worth more than clean 2A.
