2017-2018 Programs by Discipline

Let me try to be humorous, maybe the sudden decisions to walk away from La La Land was mainly due to the fate of the film at the Oscar... we know what happened.
LOL the only acceptable outcome now is if Ashley changes her program to moonlight soundtrack 😂 But seriously Moulin Rouge was a masterpiece of a program for her and I cried watching it irl but I feel the same way as I do about Yuzuru repeats-these programs have hit their peaks and there's nothing new or innovative to bring to them anymore.

or maybe you don't know them enough yet.

To be fair to Ashley, if La La Land didn't work (and it might be a tempo issue), another 15k for another programme is a lot......... I didn't like audition: it sounded like a bad and sickly version of Cabaret- thematically, and also in its use of very obvious rhymes; but without the wit and knowing of Cabaret (and that's without comment on minelli's pipes versus stone's). Moulin Rouge is a great programme, and it brings out the best in her skating. It's obvious that she tried something new and it didn't work: hers is not simply a case of someone just deciding to repeat a programme for perceived competitive advantage.

:agree:

And as someone pointed out upthread, skaters have their own reasons for their choices. I think it must have been a hard decision for Ashley. It's brave, and she deserves the benefit of the doubt.

some time ago I recall that I read a piece somewhere that Tessa and Scott will use it as a FD, but it was said in a category of rumour, along with Gabriella and Guillaume's FD to be 'Moonlight Sonata' by Beethoven. Don't know if it is true - as for both FD pieces

Is there any possibility they use Moulin Rouge soundtrack for short dance?
There is a great samba-tempo(not sure) music "Rhythm Of The Night", and it will be perfect for short dance.

Well we don't even know that they are using it at all, that's just a rumour, but that could be possible. In which case it would probably be combined with one or two more songs.

Could be. There was also this tweet from Tessa. If it's a double entendre, it could mean they are using 'Sympathy for the Devil' by The Rolling Stones for the SD too. HPC starts soon, so hopefully, we'll know then.

From wikipadedia-

"On the overall power of the song, Jagger continued in Rolling Stone: "It has a very hypnotic groove, a samba, which has a tremendous hypnotic power, rather like good dance music. It doesn't speed up or slow down. It keeps this constant groove. Plus, the actual samba rhythm is a great one to sing on, but it is also got some other suggestions in it, an undercurrent of being primitive—because it is a primitive African, South American, Afro-whatever-you-call-that rhythm (candomblé). So to white people, it has a very sinister thing about it. But forgetting the cultural colors, it is a very good vehicle for producing a powerful piece. It becomes less pretentious because it is a very unpretentious groove. If it had been done as a ballad, it wouldn't have been as good."[1]"

Well, if it's samba, that pretty much confirms it for their short dance for me. It's doesn't really fit with the wholesome image of V/M though, does it?

I thought that tweet implies thier FD :scratch2:
And yes, it is hard to imagine how they dance to Rolling Stones..
So finally HPC begins tomorrow! yeah:clap:

Considering that Tessa has liked a comment on her Instagram which reads: "If this is a hint at your short dance for the upcoming season I am literally jumping up and down as I type!!!!", I would presume that it is indeed a part of their SD.

Since their "Carmen" was sex on ice, IMO, I would say the "wholesome" image doesn't really fit anymore, lol. I would love them to use "Sympathy for the Devil" for their dance. Would be something different and edgy.

I'm guessing Moonlight Sonata is true for P/C then, since we got the 2 rumors at the same time.

Thoughts about MR for V/M ? I'm waiting to see which piece of music they choose. I think it could be excellent, I'm just disappointed that there is so many MR this year :/ (Thankfully not in Ice Dance)

I'm REALLY looking foward to see the SD to the Rolling Stones too !

For me sympathy for the devil is linked to that whole satanic scene that Jagger and co flirted with in the late sixties, and a group of associates that included Bobby Beausoleil from the Manson Family, Kenneth Anger and his two openly satanic films of Lucifer Rising and Invocation of my Demon Brother, which Jagger contributed to the soundtrack's of, and also the Church of Satan founded by Anton Lavey, all of which was influenced by the works of Aleister Crowley and Thelemite philosophy. As this song was released in 1968, and Invocation of my Demon Brother was released in 1969, and was really a collaboration between the above mentioned parties, I actually do view this song to be strongly linked to satanic worship; and the general intent of the song is to my ears (as per a long tradition in art and literature) the heroisation of satan.

I personally didn't find their Carmen dance to be anything less than wholesome, and i do think that's what they generally strive to project in their interviews, so I find it quite interesting that they have chosen this song (as it is being teased now) for their short dance.

My personal opinion is that Sympathy for the Devil is a satanic work of art.

O god, there's only so much of Ewan Mcgregor's moo-cow vocals i can take.

That's the best adjective I've heard to describe his voice. The only voice I dislike more than McGregor's on the MR soundtrack is Jacek Koman's voice in Tango de Roxanne. Having those two sing together is real torture for me.

I am pretty sure that if this is indeed part of their SD, or even FD, that it has nothing to do with satan... so thank you for your explanation but I do hope that you keep an open-mind about music as "music"... cultural context, especially when it's not defined by the author/composer themselves, is very subjective and many people choose to ignore it.

Ah, but it's not just music is it: it's music and lyrics; and one of the lyrics has already been quoted by Tessa Virtue on her twitter feed; and those- as intended by the author- are the words of the devil. Do I think Virtue and Moir are satan worshippers? Of course not. But I have no idea why they would want to dance to a song which is a celebration of evil, quite frankly.......
